Hepatitis E virus (HEV) infection is widespread among domestic pigs, industrial swine, and wild boars in Bulgaria. The aim of the current research was to present the HEV seroprevalence among blood donors in Bulgaria. In the present study, 555 blood donors (479 males and 76 females) were enrolled from five districts in the country (Shumen, Pleven, Stara Zagora, Plovdiv, and Sofia districts). All blood samples were tested for anti-HEV IgG using the recomWell HEV IgG ELISA test (Mikrogen GmbH, Neuried, Germany). Each participating donor completed a short, structured, and specific questionnaire to document data on the current study. Anti-HEV IgG positive results were detected in 144 (25.9%) blood donors, including 129 (26.9%) males and 15 (19.7%) females. The established HEV seropositivity was 28.8% (23/80) in Shumen district, 23.2% (22/95) in Pleven district, 27.1% (38/140) in Stara Zagora district, 27.5% (44/160) in Plovdiv district, and 21.3% (17/80) in Sofia district. A high HEV seroprevalence was found for persons who declared that they were general hunters (48.7%; 19/39; p = 0.001) and hunters of wild boars (51.6%; 16/31; p = 0.001). We present the first seroprevalence rates of HEV infection in blood donors from Bulgaria. The results of our research showed high HEV seropositivity among blood donors. 相似文献

The study was undertaken to examine the status of the granular apparatus and platelet aggregability in 9 healthy donors and 18 patients with arterial hypertension (AH), including 14 with essential hypertension (EH) and 4 with symptomatic forms of AH. Among the patients, a group of 8 EH patients was singled out, who had, compared with normal, reduced relative volumes of electron dense platelet granules (from 17.9 +/- 2.0 to 5.3 +/- 0.6%). The group also showed lower platelet serotonin levels (from 67.3 +/- 5.3 to 17.6 +/- 3.7 ng per 10(8) cells; p less than 0.001) and a 2-fold decrease in the transport factor of acridine orange across the cytoplasmic and granular membranes as compared to normal. A variety of mental disorders are related to deviant brain activity, but these neural alterations do not validate psychiatric diagnostic categories. High symptom overlap and variable symptom patterns encourage a dimensional approach. Following the logic of the Research Domain Criteria (RDoC), we investigated trauma survivors for symptom clusters that might be associated with characteristics of ERPs, in particular with the early posterior negativity (EPN) elicited during affective picture processing. In rapid serial visual presentation, 90 adolescents (40 male/50 female, age M = 15.0 ± 2.5 years) who had been exposed to varying amounts of traumatic stress passively viewed a stream of high-arousing positive and low-arousing neutral pictures taken from the International Affective Picture System (IAPS). Using standardized interviews, symptoms of trauma-related mental disorders were assessed (including those for PTSD, depression, borderline personality disorder, and behavioral problems). A principal component analysis was performed to derive potential dimensions of psychopathology. Multiple regression analysis confirmed a factor comprising problems concentrating, sleeping difficulties, and mistrust as a predictor of a larger EPN difference between high-arousing positive and low-arousing neutral IAPS pictures (β = 0.19, p < 0.05). Sex predicted the magnitude of the EPN (β = 0.45, p < 0.001). Male adolescents displayed a stronger EPN suppression than female adolescents. The result suggests that problems concentrating, sleeping difficulties, and mistrust seem to be trans-diagnostic elements related to diminished early emotional discrimination represented by the EPN. Left ventricular (LV) systolic and diastolic function was assessed in 12 patients after total correction of tetralogy of Fallot (age range 5 to 18 years, mean 10) and compared with 10 control patients. Only 1 patient had a shunt before total correction that was performed at a mean age of 3.5 years, (range 0.3 to 8). At cardiac catheterization the following indexed LV parameters were measured: end-diastolic and end-systolic volumes, wall mass, ejection fraction, stroke volume and end-diastolic and end-systolic pressures and stresses. The rate-corrected mean velocity of fiber shortening was calculated. LV diastolic operant chamber stiffness and myocardial stiffness were calculated from simultaneous diastolic pressures and volumes in mid- and late diastole using monoexponential formulas. The 2 groups were compared by unpaired t tests. The tetralogy group had higher mean end-diastolic (93 vs 74 ml/m2), end-systolic (29 vs 19 ml/m2) and stroke (64 vs 55 ml/m2) volumes than controls. Rate-corrected mean velocity of fiber shortening was lower in the tetralogy group (1.07 vs 1.24). Myocardial stiffness was higher in the tetralogy group (16 vs 11). Other indexes were not significantly different. Thus, LV function after total correction of tetralogy of Fallot may be abnormal with larger than normal LV size, decreased contractile function and increased myocardial stiffness. 相似文献

Recombinant human granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) treatment has been shown to increase average neutrophil counts substantially in patients with childhood-onset cyclic neutropenia (or "cyclic hematopoiesis"), but not to eliminate the cyclic oscillations of neutrophil counts or those of other blood elements (monocytes, platelets, eosinophils, and reticulocytes) that are characteristic of this hematopoietic disorder. Indeed, oscillations of neutrophil counts are amplified during G-CSF treatment. We have compared the effects of recombinant granulocyte-macrophage-CSF (GM-CSF) with those of G-CSF in three patients with this disease (2 men and 1 woman, 17, 30, and 32 years of age). These patients were treated with GM-CSF (2.1 micrograms/kg/day, subcutaneously) for 6 weeks, preceded and followed by 6 to 13 weeks of detailed observation to document changes in the cyclic oscillations of blood neutrophils and other blood elements; two of the patients were subsequently treated with G-CSF (5.0 micrograms/kg/d, subcutaneously) and observed for comparable periods of time. Unlike G-CSF treatment, which increased average neutrophil counts more than 20-fold, GM-CSF increased neutrophil counts only modestly, from 1.6- to 3.9-fold, although eosinophilia of varying prominence was induced in each patient. However, at the same time, GM-CSF treatment dampened or eliminated the multilineage oscillations of circulating blood elements (neutrophils, monocytes, platelets, and/or reticulocytes) in each of the patients. In contrast, G-CSF treatment of the same patients markedly amplified the oscillations of neutrophil counts and caused the cycling of other blood elements (monocytes in particular) to become more distinct. These findings support the conclusion that the distinctive cycling of blood cell production in childhood-onset cyclic neutropenia results from abnormalities in the coordinate regulation of both GM-CSF-responsive, multipotential progenitor cells and G-CSF-responsive, lineage-restricted, neutrophil progenitors. 相似文献
