This study examined the antimicrobial/antifungal ability of a tissue conditioner containing a photocatalyst for Escherichia coli, Streptococcus mutans, Staphylococcus aureus and Candida albicans. The photocatalyst was mixed with tissue conditioners powders at concentrations of 0, 10, 15, and 20 wt%. Tissue conditioners powders containing a photocatalyst were mixed with liquid to make test specimens. Test specimens inoculated by each microorganism were irradiated by ultraviolet light for 0-, 2- and 4 hours. The antimicrobial/antifungal effects were evaluated by the CFU technique. The CFU values of each microorganism for tissue conditioners containing a photocatalyst showed significant decrease following UV-irradiation. The improvement in antimicrobial/antifungal effects was concomitant with the increase of the mixing ratio and the irradiation time. Therefore, the results indicated that tissue conditioners containing a photocatalyst might have photocatalytic ability.  相似文献

Estrogen receptor-positive and progesterone receptor-negative (ER+/PR-) breast cancers account for 15% to 25% of all human breast cancers and display more aggressive malignant characteristics than ER+/PR+ cancers. However, the molecular mechanism underlying development of ER+/PR- breast cancers still remains elusive. We show here that Tip30 deletion dramatically accelerated the onset of mammary tumors in the MMTV-Neu mouse model of breast cancer. The mammary tumors arising in Tip30(-/-)/MMTV-Neu mice were exclusively ER+/PR-. The growth of these ER+/PR- tumors depends not only on estrogen but also on progesterone despite the absence of detectable PR. Tip30 is predominantly expressed in ER+ mammary epithelial cells, and its deletion leads to an increase in the number of phospho-ERα-positive cells in mammary glands and accelerated activation of Akt in MMTV-Neu mice. Moreover, we found that Tip30 regulates the EGFR pathway through controlling endocytic downregulation of EGFR protein level and signaling. Together, these findings suggest a novel mechanism in which loss of Tip30 cooperates with Neu activation to enhance the activation of Akt signaling, leading to the development of ER+/PR- mammary tumors.  相似文献

BackgroundLocomotive syndrome risk level has been recently proposed to evaluate physical ability. Impaired balance control is one of the most important risk factors for falls. However, the relationship between locomotive syndrome risk and postural sway according to the balance test is unclear. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between locomotive syndrome risk and balance test results, including muscle mass and physical function, in a large-scale prospective general health checkup.MethodsWe enrolled 292 participants who underwent a basic health checkup and conducted a two-step test, stand-up test, evaluation using a 25-question geriatric locomotive function scale for the locomotive syndrome risk test, balance test, appendicular skeletal muscle mass measurement by bioelectrical impedance analysis, evaluation of physical function by the timed-up-and-go test, and back muscle and grip strength evaluation. A statistical comparative study was then conducted between normal and locomotive syndrome risk groups. Subsequently, significant factors for locomotive syndrome risk were investigated by multivariate analysis.ResultsThe comparative study was conducted by adjusting age and sex using a generalized linear model. No significant difference in muscle mass existed, but postural sway in the balance test significantly increased in the people at locomotive syndrome risk. Among the four posturographic variables by balance test, increase in back-and-forth sway was the most remarkable variable associated with locomotive syndrome risk together with back muscle strength, body mass index, and the timed-up-and-go test by logistic regression analysis. This posturographic variable was significantly related to the timed-up-and-go test and leg skeletal muscle mass by multiple regression analysis.ConclusionsA relationship was recognized between locomotive syndrome risk and postural sway. In particular, increase in back-and-forth sway was an important factor for locomotive syndrome risk. If the balance test shows an increase in back-and-forth sway, attention should be paid to locomotive syndrome risk for possible intervention and early treatment.  相似文献

A pharmaceutical formulation is composed of several formulation factors and process variables. Several responses relating to the effectiveness, usefulness, stability, as well as safety must be optimized simultaneously. Consequently, expertise and experience are required to design acceptable pharmaceutical formulations. A response surface method (RSM) has widely been used for selecting acceptable pharmaceutical formulations. However, prediction of pharmaceutical responses based on the second-order polynomial equation commonly used in an RSM, is often limited to low levels, resulting in poor estimations of optimal formulations. The purpose of this review is to describe the basic concept of the multi-objective simultaneous optimization technique, in which an artificial neural network (ANN) is incorporated. ANNs are being increasingly used in pharmaceutical research to predict the nonlinear relationship between causal factors and response variables. Superior function of the ANN approach was demonstrated by the optimization for typical numerical examples.  相似文献

Laparoscopic surgery for gastric cancer in Japan has been established as a treatment for early gastric cancer after technical improvements, development of instruments, and efforts of surgeons. The technigue was extended to some advanced gastric cancers and now plays an important role in the gastric cancer treatment strategy with open surgery and endoscopic mucosal resection. Laparoscopic surgery for early gastric cancer has been evaluated as less invasive, offering radical cure, and safe in several clinical trials and case-control studies. However, the accumulation of more cases and additional basic research are necessary before adapting laparoscopic surgery for advanced gastric cancer. A large-scale, randomized, controlled study will be carried out in early gastric cancer, and, as a result, scientific and objective evaluation of laparoscopic surgery for gastric cancer will be possible in the near future.  相似文献

A 29-year-old male presented with loss of consciousness and generalized seizure, followed by right hemiparesis and speech disturbance. Computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging showed a solid, enhanced tumor with a cyst in the left frontal area with surrounding edema and mild mass effect. The cyst wall was also enhanced. The preoperative diagnosis was cystic falx meningioma. The tumor was totally resected, but most of the cyst wall adhered tightly to the surrounding brain and could not be removed. Histological examination revealed atypical meningioma and tumor cells in the cyst wall. The patient received local radiotherapy to the residual cyst wall with a total dose of 50 Gy.  相似文献
