1110 neonates, from 30 to 42 of estimated gestational age (EGA) were measured on the 1st day of life to estimate upper mid-arm circumference (MAC) and head circumference (HC). Individual MAC/HC ratio was calculated. MAC/HC ratio was used to estimate gestational age and nutritional status of the newborns. We proved that MAC/HC ratio increased linearly between 30 and 38 week of pregnancy and it stabilized between 38-42 week. We compared MAC/HC ratio with birth weight, skin fold score, and ponderal index. We concluded that this ratio may be very useful to estimate gestational age and to include the neonates to "the group of risk".  相似文献

In this paper attempts were made towards the optimalization and the control of some parameters of the RIA reaction.Basing on the law mass action, as well as on the Scatchard's and Sips's equations, the equilibrium constants for the reversible reaction: insulin-125I-antibody for different incubation temperatures were calculated. Moreover a characteristic of the antiinsulin antibody by means of the heterogeneity coefficient was done, as well as the values of the thermodynamic function increments were calculated, which made possible to point out explicitly the optimal shape of the standard curve.  相似文献

RATIONALE AND OBJECTIVES: To determine the value of dynamic MRI for seroma detection, hernia recurrence, and mesh placement in patients after laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair. METHODS: Thirteen inguinal hernias in 10 consecutive patients were evaluated before and after surgery by using an MRI protocol consisting of coronal T1-weighted (fast field echo) and T2-weighted (turbo spin-echo) images and two sequences obtained during straining (turbo field echo gradient technique). All patients underwent a transabdominal preperitoneal laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair. MRI scans were reviewed for the presence of postoperative fluid collections, recurrent hernia, and mesh localization. RESULTS: In all patients, an inguinal hernia was identified on the preoperative MRI and was absent on the postoperative MRI. In all patients treated laparoscopically, the mesh and its position were clearly identified. Three small fluid collections were found on the postoperative MRI scans. CONCLUSIONS: Dynamic MRI can demonstrate small, postoperative fluid collections and a sufficient hernioplasty by showing the proper position of the mesh and the absence of a hernia.  相似文献

We report a case of acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM) with a residual cystic lesion on MRI. This seemed to be induced by Japanese encephalitis vaccination. Despite complete clinical improvement with high-dose steroid therapy, the cystic lesion has persisted for 3 years on MRI. There have been no previous reports of residual cystic lesions in ADEM. PURPOSE: Recent findings indicating that many genes related to cancer development are silenced by an aberrant DNA methylation suggest that inhibitors of this process may be effective cancer therapeutics. In this study we investigated the efficacy of low-dose 5-aza-2'-deoxycitydine (DAC), a methylation inhibitor, with interleukin (IL) 12, one of the most potent cytokines with antitumor activity. Experimental Design: Mice inoculated with L1210 leukemia cells or with B16F10 melanoma cells were treated with 7 daily injections of low-dose DAC (0.2 mg/kg) and/or 7 daily doses of IL-12 (100 ng/dose). Scid/scid mice as well as monoclonal antibodies against CD4, CD8, and NK1.1 were used to investigate the mechanisms of the antitumor effects of the combination treatment. The activity of murine lymphocytes was measured with enzyme-linked immunospot and (51)Cr release assays. RESULTS: Treatment with DAC or IL-12 given alone produced moderate antitumor effects. In both tumor models combined treatment resulted in potentiated antitumor effects and produced 70% long-term survivors among mice inoculated with L1210 cells. The antitumor efficacy of combined treatment was abrogated in scid/scid mice, and after depletion of CD4(+) and CD8(+) T cells. Mice inoculated with B16F10 melanoma cells had significantly delayed tumor growth after combined treatment with DAC and IL-12. Strong antitumor effect correlated with a significant activation of lymph node-derived CD8(+) and CD4(+) cells. Transient neutropenia was observed in mice under treatment of DAC alone, but remarkably this effect was not potentiated by IL-12. CONCLUSIONS: This study provides the first evidence that antitumor effects of DAC can be strongly potentiated by IL-12 and could be beneficial in an effective low-dose-based antitumor therapy.  相似文献

PURPOSE: The aim of the present study was to potentiate the antitumor effectiveness of photodynamic therapy (PDT). A cDNA microarray analysis was used to evaluate the gene expression pattern after Photofrin-mediated PDT to find more effective combination treatment with PDT and inhibitor(s) of the identified gene product(s) overexpressed in tumor cells. EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN: Atlas Mouse Stress Array was used to compare the expression profile of control and PDT-treated C-26 cells. The microarray results have been confirmed using Western blotting. Cytostatic/cytotoxic in vitro assay as well as in vivo tumor models were used to investigate the antitumor effectiveness of PDT in combination with cyclooxygenase (COX) 2 inhibitors. RESULTS: PDT induced the expression of 5 of 140 stress-related genes. One of these genes encodes for COX-2, an enzyme important in the tumor progression. Inhibition of COX-2 in vitro with NS-398, rofecoxib, or nimesulide, or before PDT with nimesulide did not influence the therapeutic efficacy of the treatment. Administration of a selective COX-2 inhibitor after PDT produced potentiated antitumor effects leading to complete responses in the majority of treated animals. CONCLUSIONS: COX-2 inhibitors do not sensitize tumor cells to PDT-mediated killing. However, these drugs can be used to potentiate the antitumor effectiveness of this treatment regimen when administered after tumor illumination.  相似文献

Global and regional myocardial uptake was determined with technetium-99m tetrofosmin and a 4 hour exercise (370 MBq i.v.) and rest (740 MBq i.v.) protocol, in 24 patients with non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus and in 22 control subjects. The purpose of this study was to evaluate impaired coronary microvascular function in diabetics by measurement of % uptake increase in myocardial counts. The parameter of % uptake increase (deltaMTU) was calculated as the ratio of exercise counts to rest myocardial counts with correction of myocardial uptake for dose administered and physical decay between the exercise study and the rest study. Global deltaMTU was significantly lower in the diabetics than in control subjects (14.4 +/- 5.4% vs. 21.7 +/- 8.5%, p < 0.01). Regional deltaMTU in each of 4 left ventricular regions (anterior, septal, inferior, posterolateral) was significantly lower in the diabetic group than in the control group (p < 0.01) respectively, but there were no significant differences between deltaMTU in the 4 left ventricular regions in the same group. deltaMTU was useful as a non-invasive means of evaluating impaired coronary microvascular function in diabetics.  相似文献
