Background
The behaviour of children with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder is characterized by low predictability of responding. Low behavioural predictability is one way of operationalizing intra-individual ADHD-related variability. ADHD-related variability may be caused by inefficient behavioural selection mechanisms linked to reinforcement and extinction, as suggested by the recently published dynamic developmental theory (DDT) of ADHD. DDT argues that ADHD is a basic neurobehavioural disorder, caused by dysfunctioning dopamine systems. For establishing ADHD as a neurobehavioural disorder, findings from studies conducted in Western countries should be replicated in other cultural populations. BACKGROUND: Nitric oxide (NO) plays a key role in wound repair and S-nitrosothiols like S-nitrosoglutathione (GSNO) are well known NO donors. METHODS: Animals were separated in two groups and submitted to excisional wounds on the dorsal surface at the first day. GSNO (100 microm)-containing hydrogels were topically applied on the wound bed in the GSNO group, daily, during the first 4 days. Control group was topically treated with hydrogel without GSNO for the same period. Wound contraction and re-epithelialization were measured. Animals were sacrificed 21 days after wounding. Samples of lesion and normal tissue were formalin-fixed, paraffin embedded for histological analysis. RESULTS: Wound contraction, measured 14 and 21 days after wounding, was greater in the GSNO group than in the control group (P<0.05 for both). The re-epithelialized wound area, measured 14 days after wounding, was higher in the GSNO group than in the control group (P<0.05). A higher amount of inflammatory cells was observed in superficial and deep areas of the granulation tissue of the control group compared to the GSNO group. Twenty-one days after wounding, thin red-yellow collagen fibers arranged perpendicularly to the surface were found in the granulation tissue of the control group, whereas in the GSNO-treated group collagen fibers were thicker and arranged parallel to the surface. Increased number of mast cells was observed in the GSNO group compared with that in the control group. Vascularization and myofibroblast distribution were similar in both groups. CONCLUSION: Topical application of GSNO-containing hydrogel during the early phases of rat cutaneous wound repair accelerates wound closure and re-epithelialization and affects granulation tissue organization. 相似文献

Intraoperative penile tumescence during endoscopic surgery is a troublesome complication that often is refractory to recommended methods of management. We report a new approach of pharmacological management with intracorporeal penile injections of phenylephrine (total dose of 0.1 mg.), which was successful in 3 successive patients. This approach is prompt, safe and reproducible, and it provides sustained resolution of erection without systemic side effects. It is concluded that local intracorporeal penile administration of this sympathomimetic agent appears to be a potent new tool in the armamentarium of the endoscopic surgeon dealing with this frustrating clinical situation, which merits further clinical trial. 相似文献

An optic chiasm glioma may cause loss of vision, endocrine disturbances, hydrocephalus and cerebral ischemia due to its proximity to the pituitary, hypothalamus, III ventricle and internal carotids. A 3-month-old infant with optic chiasm glioma developed hypopituitarism and inappropriate secretion of antidiuretic hormone with plasma hypo-osmolality. The cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) protein concentration was markedly elevated. The impairment of fluid absorption via arachnoid villi and peritoneum by the high protein content, and reversed osmotic gradient between protein-rich CSF and hypo-osmolar plasma may have contributed to both nonobstructive hydrocephalus and recurrent ascites following ventriculoperitoneal shunting. In rat neocortex, the gene encoding preprocholecystokinin is expressed in interneurons which also synthetize gamma-aminobutyric acid. An injury to the meninges and the underlying cortex increased the concentration of mRNA coding for preprocholecystokinin in all ipsilateral cortical areas. Simultaneous treatment of the rats with the anti-inflammatory agent diclofenac did not affect the injury-induced change in gene expression indicating that inflammatory processes were not involved. The injury also enhanced the expression of the immediate early gene c-fos in the ipsilateral cortex in a time-dependent manner. There was an increase in c-fos mRNA 1 h after the operation, which was no longer observed 3 h later. Twenty-four hours after the operation, cells containing c-fos mRNA were found in cortical layers II, III, V and VI. The neurons which showed an increased expression of preprocholecystokinin were also in these layers. The N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor antagonist MK-801 prevented the injury-induced increases in both preprocholecystokinin and c-fos gene expression, indicating that stimulation of this glutamate receptor subtype may initiate the changes in expression of both genes. It is hypothetized that the immediate early gene c-fos is activated first and this then leads to the increase in preprocholecystokinin mRNA. 相似文献
