Cryoglobulin level in Patients with Ischemic Stroke and Effect of Selective Plasmapheresis on This Parameter

Serum concentrations of cryoglobulins were measured in patients with ischemic stroke; inadequate changes in these concentrations over the course of the entire acute period of the disease were shown. Plasma lipid levels, blood rheology, platelet aggregation, microcirculation state and oxygen transfer to tissues in young and middle-aged healthy people

It has been reported that dyslipidemia is associated with rheological and microcirculatory abnormalities in patients with ischaemic heart disease. However, it is not known how this system changes in men and women with ageing. In healthy young and middle-aged subjects the following parameters were evaluated: total plasma cholesterol, triglycerides and HDL-cholesterol levels, deformability of erythrocytes, red blood cell and platelet aggregations, blood and plasma viscosity, neutrophils' cytosolic [Ca2+]i and microviscosity of the bilayer's total lipid phase and the annular near-protein zone of the membranes. Using intravital computer-associated microscopic system we investigated the microcirculation of bulbar conjunctiva. Oxygen transfer characteristics were measured with a Radiometer TCM2 monitor. It is evident from the data obtained that in men of middle age the total plasma cholesterol and triglyceride levels are higher in comparison with other groups. The rheological behavior of red blood cell and platelet aggregations in men differ from that in women. Neutrophils activation in healthy subjects was not recorded. Our results show that changes of the blood rheological properties of men 35-50 years old can lead to disturbances of the microcirculation.     

The effect of a derivative of indole morphine administered during the induction of labor on the activity of antioxidant enzymes in the brains of fetal rabbits

We studied the effects of a derivative of indole morphine (Trisan) during induction of labor on the activity of enzymes of antioxidant defense in the brains of fetuses that developed under normal (intact) and disturbed (experimental) placental blood circulation. We show that Trisan has antihypoxic and moderate antioxidant characteristics and decreased intranatal oxidative stress in the CNS of intact and experimental fetuses.     

Congenital lipomatous overgrowth, vascular malformations, and epidermal nevi (CLOVE) syndrome: CNS malformations and seizures may be a component of this disorder

A newborn girl was found to have a massive lymphatic truncal vascular malformation with overlying cutaneous venous anomaly associated with overgrown feet and splayed toes. These manifestations comprise the recently described CLOVE syndrome. She also had cranial asymmetry and developed generalized seizures, which were treated with anticonvulsants. Cranial CT showed encephalomalacia, widening of the ventricles and the sulci, hemimegalencephaly (predominantly white matter) and partial agenesis of corpus callosum. Review of the literature identified several other patients with CLOVE syndrome, some of whom were misdiagnosed as having Proteus syndrome, with strikingly similar manifestations. We conclude that CNS manifestations including hemimegalencephaly, dysgenesis of the corpus callosum, neuronal migration defects, and the consequent seizures, may be an rarely recognized manifestation of CLOVE syndrome.     

Experimental model of acute ischemia of the retina in rats

We studied the development of retinal ischemia in rat eye after laser coagulation of blood vessels. Typical signs of ischemia manifested in the retina after 24 h: development of stable retinal edema, decrease in the b/a index (ratio of the electroretinogram b and awave amplitudes) to 1–2 units, pronounced disorders in the retinal microcirculation system, leading to ischemia of the inner layers of the retina. Translocations (17;20) in colorectal adenocarcinomas.

We describe new recurrent chromosome translocations (17;20) observed in 3 of 19 colorectal tumors. Two of them were identical: der(20)t(17;20)(q21;p12), resulting in the loss of 17(pter-->q21) and the third was a dicentric dic(17;20)(p11;p12). A similar dicentric was described previously in one tumor [1], but we report der(20)t(17;20)(q21;p12) for the first time.
