Analogues of peptide 9–21 of glycoprotein D of herpes simplex virus and their binding to group VII monoclonal antibodies

Summary Several analogues of the amino acid sequence of peptide 9–21 of glycoprotein D of herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) were synthesized and investigated for reactivity with different group VII monoclonal antibodies, Mabs LP14, ID3, 170, HD4, A16, E_II-24 and E_V-10, in a competition enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Replacement of Arg at position 16 by His resulted in a loss of binding with the group VII Mabs. Substitution of Pro at residue 14 by Leu gave a reduced binding for a number of Mabs and loss of binding for Mab A16. Substitution of Lys at position 10 by Glu gave reduced binding for three out of the seven Mabs. In addition substitutions of Met at position 11 by norleucine and oxidized Met were studied. The boundaries of the epitope cluster were mapped by studying synthetic variants of peptide 9–21 which were shorter either at the C-terminus or at the N-terminus, or both. Peptide 10–18 and peptide 9–17 were the shortest peptides, which were still reactive with the group VII Mabs. Mab HD4 requires the N-terminus of peptide 9–21 for effective binding, while for binding of other Mabs contribution of the residues in the C-terminal part of this peptide is more important.     

艾叶油的呼吸系统药理研究-Ⅱ,抗过敏作用

目的：本文研究艾叶油的抗过敏作用。方法：采用致敏豚鼠气管ＳｃｈｕｌｔｚＤａｌｅ 反应,组胺或氨甲酰胆碱引起的豚鼠气管收缩,大鼠被动皮肤过敏,５羟色胺引起的大鼠皮肤毛细血管通透性增强,豚鼠肺组织释放过敏性慢反应物质（ＳＲＳＡ） ,ＳＲＳＡ 收缩豚鼠回肠等试验。结果：艾叶油抑制致敏豚鼠气管ＳｃｈｕｌｔｚＤａｌｅ 反应（ＩＣ５０ ：９８ ．６ｍｇ／Ｌ） ;１００ｍｇ／Ｌ 明显降低组胺或氨甲酰胆碱引起的豚鼠气管收缩ｐＤ２ 值;明显抑制大鼠被动皮肤过敏（ＩＤ５０ ：０ ．２２ｇ／ｋｇ） 和５羟色胺引起的大鼠皮肤毛细血管通透性增强反应（ＩＤ５０ ：０ ．５２ｇ／ｋｇ） ;抑制豚鼠肺组织释放ＳＲＳＡ（ＩＣ５０ ：４９ ．７ｍｇ／Ｌ） ;拮抗ＳＲＳＡ 对豚鼠回肠的收缩（ＩＣ５０ ：３４ ．９ｍｇ／Ｌ） 。结论：艾叶油具有抗过敏作用,对呼吸道过敏反应有保护作用,是其治疗支气管哮喘和慢性气管炎作用机制之一     

一叶萩碱全合成的研究

以1,4-环己二酮为原料经与哌啶缩合、还原、乙酸汞环合、碱催化分子内缩合等11步反应完成了一叶萩碱的全合成。合成品的熔点及光谱数据与天然一叶萩碱的熔点及光谱数据一致。     

Prenatal ultrasound diagnosis of clubfoot

Five cases of congenital clubfoot diagnosed prenatally by ultrasound are reported. The incidence of clubfoot may be higher within an affected family and may be associated with other structural anomalies or chromosomal abnormalities. Identifying a clubfoot in utero should therefore alert the sonographer that other anomalies may be present and should lead to a detailed structural survey.     

Effectiveness of routine follow-up in the detection of contralateral breast cancer in young women with early breast cancer

Background

The purpose of the study was to determine the effectiveness of routine follow-up to detect contralateral breast cancer (CBC) in young women.

Methods

We used the data of the population-based Eindhoven Cancer Registry, which covers the southern part of the Netherlands. Between 1988 and 2005, 1451 women aged ≤40 years were treated for early-stage breast cancer with breast-conserving treatment or mastectomy.

Results

Of the 94 patients who developed CBC 17 had an in situ carcinoma. Fifty-seven CBCs (61%) were diagnosed more than 5 years after the primary tumour. Forty-two CBCs (45%) were detected during routine follow-up visits, while 52 (55%) presented between two visits. Of the CBC diagnosed between two visits, only 27 (60%) were visible on mammography. Of the invasive CBCs more than 25% was larger than 2 cm in diameter and in 34% positive axillary lymph nodes were found.

Conclusions

These figures indicate that routine follow-up does not guarantee early detection of CBC in young women with breast cancer.
