This study was conducted on 61 patients (27 males and 34 females). The age ranged from 27 to 81 years (mean 54 years). All suffered from oral squamous cell carcinoma and were treated by surgery and deep X-ray therapy (DXT). The UICC and TNM classification and staging recommendations were used for evaluation of the patients. All sections were stained with Ag-NORs stain for examination of the proliferative activity of the squamous cell carcinomas. Biopsies were also taken from another 6 cases--3 cases with normal striated muscle and 3 cases from normal oral mucosa--and served as controls. Statistical studies of Ag-NOR scores were classified into 3 scores: the p values of score I (ANOVA test) were .0001, score II (ANOVA test) was .0001, and score III (ANOVA test) was 06. Both scores I and II were highly significant and score III was significant. Electron microscopy (EM) showed tumor cells with irregular shape and size and with remarkable division of nuclei and chromatin clumps emarginated toward nuclear membrane, and some cases showed chromatin condensed at one pole of the nucleus. Few mitochondria with dilated cristae (?) and abundant rough endoplasmic reticulum (RER) were observed. Few apoptotic changes were noted. This study showed a high proliferation in poorly differentiated squamous cell carcinomas. The amount of Ag-NOR in poorly differentiated squamous cell carcinomas was a prognostic factor and represented an unfavorable prognostic feature in squamous cell carcinoma of the oral mucosa. 相似文献

Loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) is a novel nucleic acid detection method in which the target deoxyribonucleic
acid (DNA) can be efficiently amplified with high specificity and sensitivity under isothermal conditions using a set of either
four or six specific primers. In this study, we have identified a conserved sequence for Theileria luwenshuni (UTRlu8) and for T. uilenbergi (UTRu6) suitable for designing a set of six primers for the simultaneous detection by LAMP of these pathogens causing theileriosis
in sheep and goats in China. LAMP was performed at 63°C, and the amplified DNA was detectable within 15 min. The specificity
of the reaction was confirmed through EcoRI restriction enzyme digestion analysis and sequencing. The assay was proven sensitive since specific amplification was obtained
from 0.1 pg DNA of T. luwenshuni or T. uilenbergi. The LAMP assay was evaluated by testing 86 field samples in comparison to the reverse line blot method, showing a sensitivity
and specificity of 66.0% and 97.4%, respectively. These results indicate that the LAMP assay is rapid and simple to run, cost
effective, sensitive, and specific and has potential usefulness for application in diagnostics of and epidemiological studies

Bovine theileriosis is an arthropod-borne disease caused by one or more haemoprotozoan parasites of the genus Theileria. Traditionally, Theileria infection in cattle in Australia was largely asymptomatic and recognized to be associated with Theileria buffeli, now assigned to the Theileria orientalis-group. There have been some recent outbreaks of theileriosis in dairy and beef cattle, mainly in subtropical climatic zone (New South Wales) of Australia. Here, we provide the first published evidence of an outbreak of bovine theileriosis in the south-eastern Australia (state of Victoria) linked to the ikeda and chitose genotypes of T. orientalis. Future investigations should focus sharply on the elucidating the epidemiology and ecology of Theileria in this region to subvert the possible impact on the cattle industry. 相似文献

This systematic review and meta-analysis investigated ω-3 fatty-acid enriched parenteral nutrition (PN) vs standard (non-ω-3 fatty-acid enriched) PN in adult hospitalized patients (PROSPERO 2018 CRD42018110179). We included 49 randomized controlled trials (RCTs) with intervention and control groups given ω-3 fatty acids and standard lipid emulsions, respectively, as part of PN covering ≥70% energy provision. The relative risk (RR) of infection (primary outcome; 24 RCTs) was 40% lower with ω-3 fatty-acid enriched PN than standard PN (RR 0.60, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.49-0.72; P < 0.00001). Patients given ω-3 fatty-acid enriched PN had reduced mean length of intensive care unit (ICU) stay (10 RCTs; 1.95 days, 95% CI 0.42-3.49; P = 0.01) and reduced length of hospital stay (26 RCTs; 2.14 days, 95% CI 1.36-2.93; P < 0.00001). Risk of sepsis (9 RCTs) was reduced by 56% in those given ω-3 fatty-acid enriched PN (RR 0.44, 95% CI 0.28-0.70; P = 0.0004). Mortality rate (co-primary outcome; 20 RCTs) showed a nonsignificant 16% reduction (RR 0.84, 95% CI 0.65-1.07; P = 0.15) for the ω-3 fatty-acid enriched group. In summary, ω-3 fatty-acid enriched PN is beneficial, reducing risk of infection and sepsis by 40% and 56%, respectively, and length of both ICU and hospital stay by about 2 days. Provision of ω-3-enriched lipid emulsions should be preferred over standard lipid emulsions in patients with an indication for PN. 相似文献
