A systematic review of the recent literature regarding the current image-guided systems used for cataract surgery or refractive lens exchange was performed based on the PubMed and Google Scholar databases in March 2018. Literature review returned 21 eligible studies. These studies compared image-guided systems with other keratometric devices regarding their accuracy, repeatability and reproducibility in measurement of keratometric values, astigmatism magnitude and axis, as well as in IOL power calculation. Additionally, the image-guided systems were compared with conventional manual ink-marking techniques for the alignment of toric IOLs. In conclusion, image-guided systems seem to be an accurate and reliable technology with measurements of high repeatability and reproducibility regarding the keratometry and IOL power calculation, but not yet interchangeable with the current established and validated keratometric devices. However, they are superior over the conventional manual ink-marking techniques for toric IOL alignment.  相似文献

We evaluated the in vivo incidence of apoptosis and cell proliferation in multiple myeloma (MM) and investigated the correlation of both cellular events with histological tumour stage and grade, bcl-2 protein expression, serum IL-6 and sIL-6R. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The TUNEL method was used to assess apoptosis and immunohistochemistry to assess the expression of proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) and bcl-2 protein in 30 bone marrow biopsy specimens. The apoptotic index (AI) and proliferative index (PI) were defined as the percentage of TUNEL and PCNA positive plasma cells, respectively. RESULTS: The mean AI was 0.162% and the mean PI 27.44%. A positive correlation between AI and PI was found (r = 0.44, P = 0.017). PI was also correlated with tumour grade (P = 0.015). The mean bcl-2 protein expression was 70% and did not correlate with AI or PI, but was higher in specimens taken at first diagnosis than in specimens taken after response to treatment (P = 0.035). The mean serum IL-6 and sIL-6R values were 9.43 pg mL-1 and 47.27 ng mL-1, respectively. These parameters did not correlate with AI or PI. CONCLUSIONS: The results indicate that MM might be among the malignancies with very low incidence of apoptosis. Proliferative activity increased in parallel with tumour histological grade. A positive correlation between apoptosis and proliferation was observed, but the incidence of these two cellular events seems not to be related to the bcl-2 protein expression and the serum levels of IL-6 and sIL-6R.  相似文献

Soon after the diagnosis of pellagra in a 20-year-old patient with beta thalassemia, bilateral intumescent cataracts rapidly developed. We believe the patient's crystalline lenses were at an increased oxidative state due to iron overload from the thalassemia. Depletion of the lens epithelial cells of an important antioxidative agent (glutathione) as a result of niacin (vitamin B3) deficiency due to pellagra reduced the antioxidative capacity of the lenses. Background Greece has the highest adult smoking prevalence in the European Union, affecting not only those who smoke but also threatening the health of those who are involuntarily exposed to passive smoke, especially young Greek children.Objective The aim of this study was to quantify passive smoking biomarkers (serum nicotine and cotinine levels) among preschool children in Crete in relation to parental smoking habits.Methods All children enrolled in kindergarten in western Crete (1,757 preschool children and 2,809 parents) were interviewed during the 2004–2005 Cretan health promotion programme out of which a sample of 81 children was randomly selected according to parental smoking status and blood samples for cotinine and nicotine assay were taken.Results The geometric means of serum nicotine values in children with both parents current smokers and in those with both parents non-smokers were 0.71 ng/ml (95%CI 0.62, 0.80) and 0.59 ng/ml (95%CI 0.49, 0.69), respectively, (p=0.073). Cotinine geometric mean values were found at 1.69 ng/ml (95%CI 0.93, 3.06) and 0.15 ng/ml (95%CI 0.09, 0.28), respectively, (p<0.001). Girls with smoker parents had also greater cotinine geometric mean values than boys (3.35 versus 0.85 ng/ml, respectively, p=0.018).Conclusion Our findings prove that Greek preschool children, especially young girls, are exposed to substantial levels of passive smoke which therefore stresses the need for immediate action so as to prevent the predisposition and early addiction of Greek preschool children to tobacco.  相似文献
