Estrogen receptors in human pulp tissue

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to evaluate the expression of estrogen receptor (ER)-alpha in human pulp tissue. STUDY DESIGN: Tissue samples were collected from 51 teeth extracted for orthodontic reasons or from endodontically treated teeth. Immunohistochemical staining was performed with mouse antihuman ER-alpha 1D5 by using the alkaline phosphatase antialkaline phosphatase technique. Immunohistochemical reactivity was semiquantitatively assessed and graded on an intensity scale of 0 to 3. RESULTS: ERs were found in odontoblasts, endothelial cells, and Schwann cells. By means of statistical analysis, ERs were found to be common in odontoblasts (1.3-1.6) and in endothelial cells (1.0-1.4), whereas in Schwann cells they were somewhat rare (0.7-1.1). Difference in expression of ERs was not found among patients in different age groups. With respect to sex, a difference in reactivity was observed in Schwann cells, which showed higher reactivity in female pulps. CONCLUSION: The results of this study confirm the expression of ER-alpha in the human dental pulp.     

反相高效液相法同时测定复方雷锁辛擦剂中三组分的含量

目的:建立测定复方雷锁辛擦剂中间苯二酚、苯酚和水杨酸含量的高效液相色谱法。方法:色谱柱Kromasil C18(4．6 mm×150 mm,5 μm),流动相:甲醇-2％乙酸溶液(40:60),流速1．0 ml·min-1,检测波长:280 nm。结果:间苯二酚在5～25 μg·ml-1,苯酚在10～100μg·ml-1,水杨酸在3～90μg·ml-1范围内与峰面积呈良好的线性关系,相关系数依次为:0．999 9, 0．999 8,0．999 9。回收率依次为:99．5％(RSD0．9％),100．1％(RSD0．6％),99．7％(RSD 1．4％)。结论:本法专属性强,结果准确可靠。适用于复方雷锁辛擦剂的质量控制。     

Perinatal stimulation and adaptation of the neonate

The present report describes psychobiological studies of behavior around the time of birth. An adaptive, ecological perspective is presented in which stimulation of the fetus and newborn is purported to instigate adaptive postpartum behavior. Studies describing the perinatal sensory environment are reviewed, with a consideration of emergent sensory function of the fetus. It is asserted that afferent input associated with parturition perturbs the fetus and neonate, producing a general arousal state that facilitates breathing, suckling, and early learning. The view developed herein is that perinatal sensory input induces and canalizes the newborn's behavior, thereby regulating adaptive postpartum function. Deviations in afferent input may alter ontogenetic trajectories and compromise developmental outcome by reducing availability of conditions necessary for adequate postpartum adaptation.     

Prekallikrein-Kallikrein conversion rate as a predictor of contrast material catastrophies

An in vitro is described that attempts to detect patients with a potential for adverse systemic reactions to contrast material. This test involves measuring the rate of conversion of prekallikrein to kallikrein under certain standard conditions. In a preliminary retrospective study, the test could be used to identify such patients with a sensitivity of 88%, a specificity of 82%, and a predictive value of 79%.
