AbstractObjective: Gastric distention and perforation are possible results in a preterm newborn with esophageal atresia and distal tracheoesophageal fistula, especially when there is a need for mechanical ventilatory support. The results of the reported cases treated with emergency thoracotomy and fistula ligation after gastrostomy are not very satisfactory. Sometimes simple temporary solutions can be useful for stabilization and allow safety for required surgical treatment for later.Patient and methods: Two preterm newborns with esophageal atresia and distal tracheoesophageal fistula complicated by gastric perforation were reported. Results: Both of the patients were initially treated with a simple peritoneal drainage and, then the definitive operations were performed without any problem in stabilized patients. Conclusion: Performing fistula ligation or occlusion as an initial treatment in patients with impaired cardiac and respiratory functions may worsen the status of the patient. In such cases, it could be better to perform simple interventions first to facilitate subsequent treatments. 相似文献
The recent introduction of a large number of synthetic dyes, which are toxic, mutagenic, and carcinogenic, has made the situation worse by disrupting normal aquatic life. For this reason, the detection and removal of dyestuffs in wastewater become important. In this study, for the extraction of methylene blue, used as solid phase extraction adsorbent, lignocellulosic biosorbent of tea waste activated with ZnCl2 was prepared. The factors affecting its extraction were studied in detail. To determine the sensitivity and certainty of the solid phase extraction process; optimized to have an adsorbent amount (75 mg), wash solvent (3 mL water), loading volume (20 mL), elution solvent methanol/acetic acid (80:20, v/v), and eluent volume (8 mL). As a result of the optimization processes, rates ranging from 94.4% to 98.9% recovery were obtained in methylene blue extraction in aqueous solutions. According to the results obtained, this method can be extensively applied in the efficient removal of colored contaminants.
AbstractPurpose: In our study, we aimed to investigate the ganglion cell-inner plexiform layer thickness (GCIPL), retinal nerve fibre layer thickness (RNFL), mean macular volume (MMV), central macular thickness (CMT), mean macular thickness (MMT), and choroidal thickness (CT) values with optical coherence tomography (OCT) in patients who are diagnosed with alcohol use disorder (AUD).Materials and methods: The study included 43 patients who were diagnosed with AUD, and 43 healthy controls. Detailed biomicroscopic examinations of all the participants, visual acuity, intraocular pressure, anterior and posterior segment examinations, and then, OCT measurements were carried out. Results: Although the measured values for RNFL in the superior and temporal quadrant are within normal limits, they were slightly higher compared to those in the control group (p values 0.127 and 0.191 for superior quadrant and temporal quadrant, respectively). The CT measurements in all quadrants were higher than the control group; however, these measurements were not statistically significant (p?>?0.05). When the relation between clinical features and OCT findings of the patients were examined, it was determined that the ages of the patients were statistically significantly and inversely correlated with the temporal CT and also the nasal and temporal quadrants of RNFL.Conclusions: Our study is the first study that examines the retinal GCIPL and CT with OCT in patients who are diagnosed with AUD. In our results, it was determined that there were no statistically significant differences between the participants in terms of OCT parameters. Further studies with larger sampling groups evaluating neurotransmission findings may provide wider results. 相似文献
ABSTRACT Through qualitative data collected with women affected by drug use and drug-related violence in Bogotá, this article explores the convergence of harm reduction rationales and violence prevention programming in the urban margins to advocate for women’s health empowerment and health rights as victims of intergenerational trauma and violence. We propose a methodological shift of public health praxis from street-based outreach models to intimate spaces of intervention for health outcomes embodiment11 Drawing from Krieger’s (2004) conceptualisation, we define embodiment as the stories our bodies hold and how they interact with the urban environment. as we continue to develop our community health model to work with marginalised communities in the urban global South. Through this work committed to social justice in marginalised urban communities, we seek to support women’s health needs through harm reduction in historically marginalised communities in urban settings. Our results expose how multi-level gender-based violence affects women’s health in their living spaces in the urban margins. Drawing from women’s voices and narratives of urban violence, we call for a feminist alternative to traditionally masculinist and public-space oriented harm reduction practice for health empowerment in the urban margins. 相似文献
To estimate the association between self-perceived oral health indicators and ethnic origin in Colombia, a cross-sectional study (Information from the 2007 National Public Health Survey) was conducted. Variables: belonging to an ethnic group (Exposure); oral health indicators (Outcomes); sex, age, education and self-rated health (control). Analyses were carried out separately for men (M) and women (W). The association between the exposure variable and the outcomes was estimated by means of adjusted odds ratio (OR) with confidence intervals (95 % CI) using logistic regression. Men were more likely to report gum bleeding (aOR 1.78; 95 % CI 1.44–2.23) and dental caries (aOR 1.69; 95 % CI 1.42–2.02), while women were more likely to report unmet dental needs (aOR 1.43; 95 % CI 1.27–1.49) and dental caries (aOR 1.34; 95 % CI 1.22–1.47). Indigenous and Palenquero were more likely to report most of the indicators analyzed. Minority ethnic groups in Colombia were at risk to report oral health problems. 相似文献
Splinted and unsplinted overdenture attachment systems have unique advantages and disadvantages. The aim of the present systematic review was to determine the influence of splinted and unsplinted overdenture attachment systems on the marginal bone loss, prosthetic complications and implant survival rate. PubMed/MEDLINE , Scopus and Cochrane databases were searched for articles published up to October 2017, using the following search terms: “overdenture AND attachment OR overdenture AND bar OR overdenture splinted.” The PICO question “Do splinted overdenture attachment systems promote better clinical results in comparison to unsplinted systems?” was evaluated. Eligible studies included randomized controlled clinical trials, prospective studies with at least 10 participants and a minimum follow‐up of 6 months, and studies published in English that compared splinted and unsplinted attachment systems within the same study. The 95% confidence interval (CI ) was considered for all outcomes analysed. After completion of the different steps in the article selection process, nine articles were included in the qualitative and quantitative analyses. A total of 984 implants were placed in 380 patients (mean age: 62.8 years). The meta‐analysis demonstrated no statistically significant differences between splinted and unsplinted attachment systems with regard to marginal bone loss (P = .39; MD : ?0.11; 95% CI : ?0.37 to 0.14), complications (P = .31; RR : 1.26; CI : 0.80‐1.99) and implant survival rate (P = .14; RR : 0.37% CI : 0.10‐1.36). In addition, splinted and unsplinted overdenture attachment systems achieved similar results with regard to marginal bone loss, prosthetic complications and implant survival rate. 相似文献
