Liposomal formulation of curcumin attenuates seizures in different experimental models of epilepsy in mice

Contemporary research indicates promising anticonvulsant effect of curcumin. However, its poor oral bioavailability is a major hindrance toward its pharmacological action. Thus, this study was carried out to evaluate the acute effect of liposome‐entrapped curcumin on increasing current electroshock seizures (ICES) test, pentylenetetrazole (PTZ)‐induced seizures, and status epilepticus in mice. Liposome‐entrapped curcumin in doses 25 and 50 mg/kg demonstrated significant increase in seizure threshold current and latency to myoclonic and generalized seizures in ICES test and PTZ‐induced seizures, respectively. Similarly, liposomal‐entrapped curcumin also increased the latency to the onset and decreased the duration of seizures during status epilepticus in mice. To conclude, liposomal‐entrapped curcumin possesses anticonvulsant activity against status epilepticus in mice.     

盐酸放线瑞香宁的紫外二阶导数光谱法测定及在兔体内的药代动力学

盐酸放线瑞香宁(actinodaphine-HCl)系从莲叶桐科青藤属植物黑吹风(Illigera khasiana C.B Clarke)中分离提取而得的有效成分,结构式如图1。药理试验证明有解热、镇痛、解痉等作用。本文报告用紫外二阶导数光谱法研究盐酸放线瑞香宁在兔体内的药代动力学结果。家兔4只,体重2.8±0.6kg。盐酸放线瑞香宁由本所植化室提供。氯仿、乙醇均为A.R。Perkin-Elmer型紫外—可见光分光光度计系美国产品。     

Papaveretum infusions in infants under 6 months of age

The effectiveness of a continuous low dose papaveretum infusion for the relief of postoperative pain was assessed in 29 infants aged 1-6 months nursed on the infant surgical ward following major abdominal surgery. Trained nursing staff were able to adjust the dosage within prescribed guidelines and satisfactory analgesia was obtained with a regimen which delivered up to 0.0375 mg/kg/hour, approximately half the dose recommended in children older than 12 months. There was one case of clinically significant respiratory depression.     

Distal stent delivery with guideliner catheter: First in man experience

Failure to deliver stents is one of the commonest causes of procedural failure in contemporary PCI practice. We describe successful use of the Guideliner Catheter, the first purpose designed FDA and CE marked device delivery catheter in 13 complex cases in native coronary vessels and bypass grafts performed via the radial route to enable distal stent delivery following failure of conventional techniques. We discuss how the Guideliner catheter may be used to facilitate difficult radial cases. © 2010 Wiley‐Liss, Inc.     

Demonstration of IgE antibodies to nucleic acid antigens in patients with SLE.

Using a combination of avidin-biotin microELISA and solid phase radioimmunoassay, we examined sera from 23 patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), two patients with established sensitivity to ingested shrimp, and 15 healthy normal subjects. In addition to IgG antibodies, varying amounts of IgE antibodies specific for native DNA (nDNA), denatured or single-stranded DNA (dnDNA), RNA, and tRNA were demonstrable in the sera of SLE patients, but not in the sera of normal subjects. A comparison of the specificity of nucleic acid-specific IgE antibodies present in the sera of shrimp-sensitive patients with those present in the sera of seven SLE patients revealed that the IgE antibodies in the sera of shrimp-sensitive patients specifically recognized shrimp tRNA but not yeast tRNA, calf thymus RNA, or calf thymus DNA, while those present in the sera of patients with SLE recognized all these nucleic acid antigens. The IgE antibodies directed against nDNA, dnDNA, RNA, and tRNA may mediate mast cell and basophil degranulation and thus contribute both to immediate-type hypersensitivity phenomena including hives seen in patients with SLE and to the localization of IgE-nucleic acid complexes in target tissues.     

Gastrointestinal teratomas: CT and US appearance with pathologic correlation

Gastrointestinal teratomas are uncommon, benign neoplasms that occur primarily in children. A retrospective review of five cases (two gastric, one pancreatic, one mesenteric, and one in the lesser omentum) is presented with emphasis on the computed tomographic and ultrasonographic appearances. Principal findings are a well-defined mass with separate cystic and solid components of varying proportions, discrete areas with densities similar to that of fat, or coarse, globular calcifications within the solid component. Recognition of these findings may allow the radiologist to make a correct preoperative diagnosis of teratoma.
