Areas of priority for intensive discovery would be the agbiotechnology and biomedical sectors using gene technology as a platform.The use of genetic manipulation in farming and the use of plants as “pharma“ factories to manufacture therapeutics would be on the rise.The human genome will continue to have a powerful impact on research and development of human diseases and healthcare,Discovery of genetics and pharmacogenomics will have great impact on drug development and will allow the prediction of the patient‘s response to various drugs as well as the onset of individualised or “designer drugs“ .Human stem cells could have their cellular clocks reset by the cloning process,enhancing opportunities to grow young cells,tissues and organs for an aging population. The cellular clock could also be reset by therapeutic cloning .Bioinformatics would be a technology which would be synonymous with biotechnology,The analyses of biotechnology research would be conducted in silico and would involive the exchange of information among sophisticated computer databases.Application of biotechnology would be even more evident in environmental technology,food development and food rpocessing,In electronics,the use of the specificity of proteins in biochips is underway,In tandem with the explosions in research,regulatory issues,legislation and intellectual property rights will evolve to enhance the climate of discovery and innovation .Public education will have to be continually enhanced as awareness could negate any fear resulting from novel and innovative improveents from biotechnology.

兔病毒性出血症俗称“兔瘟”，是由兔病毒性出性病毒引起的兔的一种 急性、高度接触性传染病，主要特征及呼吸系统出血，肝坏死，实质脏器，肝坏死，实质脏器水肿、瘀血及出血性症状，本病发病率及病死率极高，常呈爆发性流行。是养兔业一大灾害。     

汤钊猷院士荣获"中国工程科技奖"

本刊总编辑，原上海医科大学肝癌研究所所长汤钊猷院士获得了中国工程院设立的"中国工程科技奖"。表彰他自60年代末以来，在肝癌临床诊治和基础性研究方面的显著成就。他最早对小肝癌进行了系统研究，使手术切除后5年生存率达到60％～70％，将病人5年生存率提高到68．4％。这些重大成果使我国肝癌临床诊治水平长期处于国际领先地位，他提出的"亚临床肝癌"概念和理论的建立，被国际权威称为是人类认识和治疗肝癌的重大进展。 本刊编辑部     

COMPARATIVE EFFICACY OF THIENPYDIN, PYRANTEL PAMOATE, MEBENDAZOLE AND ALBENDAZOLE IN TREATING ASCARIASIS AND ENTEROBIASIS

A comparison of the efficacy of thienpydin, pyrantel pamoate, mebendazole and albendazole iii the treatment of ascariasis and enterobiasis was made among 360 students divided int0 9 groups and .among 376 children divided int0 5 groups under different dosage schedules. Follow-up examination 10 days after treatment indicated that the combina tion of thienpydin with mebendazole and pyrantel pamoate with mebendazole offered the best effect against ascariasis and enterobiasis.

日本血吸虫尾迹经肤传播。是否还存在其他传播途径？王溪云等在《家畜血吸虫病》中提及在牛体内可经胎盘传播L‘j，但未见详细报道和深人研究。本实验对母兔怀孕后期感染不同强度的尾迹，观察仔兔感染情况，以探索日本血吸虫病新的传播途径。l材料和方法2只家兔怀孕23d（怀孕后期）后，经肤分别感染尾迹100条和300条。感染后川各产下仔兔5头，仔兔一直由母兔喂养。自母兔感染尾迹45～50d，将母兔和仔兔分别剖解，并注水冲洗，集虫计数，观察仔兔肝脏损害情况，ELISA法检测母兔、仔兔免疫血清反应。2结果2．1感染情况感染10O条尾迹的母兔…     

CLINICAL CLASSIFICATION OF 109 CHRONIC MYELOID LEUKEMIA CASES AND ITS CORRELATION WITH PH CHROMOSOMES

Our stt.tdy on the correlation of clinical classi- fication of 109 cases of chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) with Ph chromosome frequency showed that the mean frequency of Ph chromosomes was 41.22% in 24 cases with partial or complete reruission, 62.3'7。 in 64 chronic cases and 81.13% in 21 acute trans formation cases. Ph chromosomes tended to in crease markedly during the chronic stage and acute transformation. This helps elucidate the course of CML and serves as a valuable indicator of acute transformation of CML.
