A 6 month-old male infant (weight: 4.5 kg) with congenital aortic stenosis underwent aortic valve replacement with a pulmonary autograft (Ross procedure). The right ventricular outflow tract (RVOT) was reconstructed with a polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE)-valved equine pericardial conduit. At the age of 5, re-RVOT reconstruction with an equine pericardial patch bearing a PTFE monocusp was required because of severe pulmonary stenosis resistant to 2 attempts of percutaneous transluminal pulmonary valvotomy. Currently, at the age of 8, the degree of aortic regurgitation is trivial and the pulmonary autograft is free of functional deterioration despite somatic growth.  相似文献

The CT findings of 19 children under 16 years of age with primary brain tumors in the cerebral hemisphere were investigated with special reference to the existence of cerebral hemiatrophy ipsilateral to the side of the tumor. "Ipsilateral cerebral hemiatrophy" was observed in four of 19 cases (21%). These included two cases with germinoma in the basal ganglia and two with low-grade astrocytoma in the frontal and occipital cortex. This peculiar CT finding was not specific to the location or histology of the tumor. The four cases were characterized by slow progression, which contrasted with the rapid progression of tumors shown in seven cases with a mass effect on CT.  相似文献

Myelography was performed in 12 patients with juvenile muscular atrophy of unilateral upper extremity. Seven patients showed anterior shift of lower cervical dural canal in flexion (tight dural canal in flexion) (T group), however the other 5 patients did not show "tight dural canal in flexion" (NT group). Onset of illness and sex were not different between 2 groups. However, there was a tendency that the neurological signs and symptoms were more severe in the patients of T group than those of NT group. These results suggest that "right dural canal in flexion" can be one of mechanisms which exhibit the clinical symptoms of the juvenile muscular atrophy of unilateral upper extremity. However, there may be other etiological factors in the juvenile muscular atrophy of unilateral upper extremity.  相似文献

From an observation of personnel we expect epidemiological studies make mass-screening of stomach cancer more efficient and suppose they should be done as to following aspects: (1) To decide the most efficient interval of mass-screening, investigating the frequency distribution of "Saving Duration" on many stomach cancers that is the duration when a stomach cancer is both detectably by screening and curable. (2) To decide who should undergo stomach examination quantifying cancer-risks of individuals with the use of epidemiological results. (3) To make epidemiological studies more sensitive and useful, classifying stomach cancers by microscopic pathological type, macroscopic one or "Saving Duration". (4) To settle a statistical standard of epidemiological results which is demanded for them to be useful in mass-screening.  相似文献

Epigallocatechin 3-gallate (EGCG), which is one of the components of green tea, was recently shown to inhibit endothelial cell growth in vitro and angiogenesis in vivo [5]. We have previously shown that bone and cartilage formation by bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) is highly dependent on the geometry of the carrier (vasculature-inducing or -inhibiting geometry [2]. To verify the function of angiogenesis in the BMP induction system, we examine in this article whether inhibition of angiogenesis enhances chondrogenesis and suppresses osteogenesis. Fibrous glass membrane used as a BMP carrier was mixed with 1.2 micrograms rhBMP-2 and 1-10 micrograms of EGCG and was implanted into rats subcutaneously. As the dose of EGCG increased, alkaline phosphatase activity and calcium content were decreased, whereas the type II collagen content was increased. The results clearly indicated that inhibition of vascularization enhanced chondrogenesis and suppressed osteogenesis.  相似文献

Surface antigenic specificities of human thymus-derived (T) lymphocytes were studied by cytotoxicity tests using a heterologous rabbit anti-human thymus serum. This serum showed higher cytotoxic titres on thymocytes by comparison with peripheral lymphocytes. After proper absorption the antiserum was non-toxic for chronic lymphatic leukaemia cells, but lysed the majority of thymocytes. It also lysed some of peripheral lymphocytes, corresponding to those lymphocytes which bound sheep erythrocytes (E) but not erythrocyte-antibody-complement complexes (EAC). Pretreatment of lymphocytes with the absorbed antiserum and complement completely abrogated rosette formation with E but spared EAC-binding lymphocytes. It also eliminated their reactivity to phytohaemagglutinin and concanavalin A. These findings indicate that the absorbed serum causes selective lysis of T cells. The results obtained from quantitative absorption studies suggest that a certain loss of T-cell antigens is brought about during the differentiation of thymocytes into peripheral T cells.  相似文献

Ossification or calcification of the ligamentum flavum (LF) is relatively common in the middle and lower cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine but extremely rare in the upper cervical region. This clinical fact suggests that there exist local factors promoting or preventing ossification or calcification of LF. However, little is known about the differences in the ultrastructure and cellular alterations of the LF between the different spinal levels, even in the cervical spine. With electron microscopy, we examined samples of LF collected surgically from the upper and lower cervical spine regions; we then studied the apoptotic appearance of ligament cells using a preferential labeling method. We found direct evidence of apoptosis of ligament cells in the LF. Apoptosis was more apparent in the upper region samples than in the lower region samples. The spaces around the normal fibroblasts were filled with thick collagen fibrils, but the collagen fibrils disappeared around the apoptotic bodies and thin fibrils were formed. The difference of the level of apoptosis may correlate to the ultrastructual difference of LF, and our data will benefit further investigations seeking to clarify the mechanism of various pathological conditions in the human LF.  相似文献

Despite the huge number of colonized Gram-negative bacteria in the colon, the normal colon maintains its homeostasis without any excessive immune response. To investigate the potential mechanisms involved, human colonic lamina propria mononuclear cells (LPMCs) obtained from uninflamed mucosa were cultured with lipopolysaccharide (LPS) prepared from Bacteroides vulgatus (BV-LPS) or Bacteroides fragilis (BF-LPS), as representatives of indigenous flora, or pathogenic Salmonella minnesota (SM-LPS). Colonic LPMCs failed to produce inflammatory cytokines in response to any type of LPS. Colonic macrophages barely expressed mRNA for MD-2, an essential association molecule for LPS signaling via Toll-like receptor 4. Further, BV-LPS induced CD25 and Foxp3 expression in lymphocytes and CD4(+)CD25(+) cells expressed IL-10 mRNA. Thus, the low expression of functioning LPS receptor molecules and induction of IL-10-producing CD4(+)CD25(+) lymphocytes by indigenous LPS may play a central role in the maintenance of colonic immunological homeostasis.  相似文献

Addition of various heparinoids to the lactose-introduced, water-soluble chitosan (CH-LA) aqueous solution produces an injectable chitosan/heparinoid hydrogel. In the present work, we examined the capability of the chitosan/non-anticoagulant heparin (periodate-oxidized (IO(4)-) heparin) hydrogel to immobilize fibroblast growth factor (FGF)-2, as well as the controlled release of FGF-2 molecules from the hydrogel in vitro and in vivo. The hydrogel was biodegraded in about 20 days after subcutaneous injection into the back of a mouse. When the FGF-2-incorporated hydrogel was subcutaneously injected into the back of both mice and rats, a significant neovascularization and fibrous tissue formation were induced near the injected site. These results indicate that the controlled release of biologically active FGF-2 molecules is caused by biodegradation of the hydrogel, and that subsequent induction of the vascularization occurs.  相似文献

In patients with Type 2 diabetes mellitus (Type 2 DM), the relationship between the prevalence rate of small dense LDL (sdLDL) and parameters of lipid metabolism was analyzed using the method devised by modified Krauss method using apoferritin as an internal standard. The prevalence rate of sdLDL was 34% compared with it of normal subjects in this study. When the severity of Type 2 DM was classified into three groups of the HbA1c value, neither the sdLDL size nor its prevalence rate differed significantly depending upon the severity of the Type 2 DM. Also, when the prevalence rate of sdLDL was analyzed in relation to the severity of complications, i.e., of microangiopathy (retinopathy and nephropathy) or macroangiopathy (cerebral infarction), there was no significant difference in the prevalence rate of sdLDL depending on the severity of any of these complications. On the other hand, the prevalence rate of sdLDL was found to be correlated with the serum TG level. The serum level of TG-rich remnants (metabolites of TG) was also high in patients with sdLDL. It should take notice that the assessment of sdLDL should be used the authorized method for the evaluation. Thus it is concluded that the levels of sdLDL were important in evaluation of Type 2 DM. The prevalence rate of sdLDL did not correlate with the severity, nor the modalities for the complications of Type 2 DM.  相似文献
