Background
Rhinoplasty and rhinoseptoplasty are very important and complex surgical procedures because the nose plays a pivotal aesthetic role in the face and an important functional role in breathing. Mild bulbous, plunging, undefined tips are very common, and tip refining and repositioning often are required surgical procedures.Methods
For 97 selected patients, the authors performed their personal technique consisting of a transcartilaginous approach, incomplete vertical interruption, and retrograde undermining of the lower lateral cartilages to improve tip projection and definition. The five aspects analyzed were nasal tip symmetry, nostril symmetry, tip projection, tip definition, and appearance of the nasal tip only. Each parameter was assessed using pre- and postoperative quantification according to a visual analog scale. Postoperative evaluation was performed during a mean follow-up period of 1?year.Results
The results at 1?year showed high rates of improvement in tip definition (mean, 7.9?±?2.4) and nasal tip only evaluation (mean, 6.5?±?3.1). The patients reported an improvement in nasal tip symmetry (mean, 4.2?±?3.2), nostril symmetry (mean, 4.5?±?4.1), and tip projection (mean, 5.8?±?2.9).Conclusions

Introduction
Sporothrix schenckii is a thermal dimorphic pathogenic fungus causing a subcutaneous mycosis, sporotrichosis. Nitrocoumarin represents a fluorogenic substrate class where the microbial nitroreductase activity produces several derivatives, already used in several other enzyme assays. The objective of this study was the analysis of 6-nitrocoumarin (6-NC) as a substrate to study the nitroreductase activity in Sporothrix schenckii.Methods
Thirty-five samples of S. schenckii were cultivated for seven, 14 and 21 days at 35 °C in a microculture containing 6-nitrocoumarin or 6-aminocoumarin (6-AC) dissolved in dimethyl sulfoxide or dimethyl sulfoxide as a negative control, for posterior examination under an epifluorescence microscope. The organic layer of the seven, 14 and 21-day cultures was analyzed by means of direct illumination with 365 nm UV light and by means of elution on G silica gel plate with hexane:ethyl acetate 1:4 unveiled with UV light.Results
All of the strains showed the presence of 6-AC (yellow fluorescence) and 6-hydroxylaminocoumarin (blue fluorescence) in thin layer chromatography, which explains the green fluorescence observed in the fungus structure.Conclusion

scavenger enzymes, two hypothesised mechanisms for action of interleukin-Iβ (IL-1β), we studied whether CU(II) addition could
prevent the inhibitory effect of IL-1β on insulin release and glucose oxidation in rat pancreatic islets. Islets were incubated
with or without 50 U/ml IL-1β, in the presence or absence of various concentrations of Cu(II)-GHL (Cu(II) complexed with glycyl-l-histidyl-l-lysine, a tripeptide known to enhance copper uptake into cultured cells). CuSO4 (1–1000 ng/ml) was used as a control for Cu(II) effect when present as an inorganic salt. At the end of the incubation period,
insulin secretion was evaluated in the presence of either 2.8 mmol/l (basal insulin secretion) or 16.7 mmol/l glucose (glucose-induced
release). In control islets basal insulin secretion was 92.0±11.4 pg · islet−1 h−1 (mean ± SEM,n=7) and glucose-induced release was 2824.0±249.0 pg · islet−1 h−1. In islets pre-exposed to 50 U/ml IL-1β, basal insulin release was not significantly affected but glucose-induced insulin
release was greatly reduced (841.2±76.9,n=7,p<0.005). In islets incubated with IL-1β and Cu-GHL (0.4 μmol/l, maximal effect) basal secretion was 119.0±13.1 pg · islet−1 h−1 and glucose-induced release was 2797.2±242.2, (n=7,p<0.01 in respect to islets exposed to IL-1β alone). In contrast to data obtained with Cu(II)-GHL, increasing concentrations
of CuSO4 (up to 10 μmol/l) did not influence the inhibitory effect of IL-1β on glucose-stimulated insulin release. Glucose
oxidation (in the presence of 16.7 mmol/l glucose) was 31.5±2.4 pmol · islet−1·90min−1 in control islets and 7.0±0.9 (p<0.01) in IL-1β-exposed islets. In islets exposed to IL-1β and Cu-GHL glucose oxidation was similar to control islets (31.9±1.9).
In contrast, Cu-GHL did not prevent the IL-1β-induced increase in nitric oxide production. Nitrite levels were 5±1.7, 26±5
and to 29±4 pmol · islet−1·48 h−1 (mean ± SEM,n=5) in the culture medium from control IL-1β and IL-1β+Cu-GHL exposed islets, respectively. These data indicate that the Cu(II)
complexed to GHL is able to prevent the inhibitory effects of IL-1β on insulin secretion and glucose oxidation, but not on
NO production. The mechanism of action of Cu-GHL is still unclear, but it might restore the activity of the enzymatic systems

human contexts. The role of art, in this case of theatre, is

aspects of Alzheimer’s disease from the first stage of
the disease to the last stage: amnesia, aphasia, agnosia and
apraxia. It tells the story of Carlo Pontercoli, a gerontologist
and specialist in cardiovascular disease, who, while
writing his paper on “The elderly and sexuality”, manifests
the first signs of the disease that killed his mother not so
long before. The monologue aims to be a new contribution
to the whole understanding of the problems concerning
Alzheimer’s disease through observation and visual communication
