Background Guided tissue regeneration procedures provide predictable reconstruction of periodontal tissues in the treatment of furcation involvements in animals and huamns. This study was to compare long-term effectiveness of two different types of polylactic acid (PLA) membranes on periodontal regeneration in surgically created class II furcation defects in dogs. Methods Full thickness mucoperiosteal flap was raised on the buccal aspects of the experimental teeth and class Ⅱ furcation defects having 5 mm vertical dimensions were created on mandibular premolar Ⅲ and Ⅳ on each quadrant. The exposed root surfaces were thoroughly planed and PLA membranes were placed over the experimental defects on both sites. One site received liquid polymer membrane (LPM), and resorbable periodontal mesh (RPM) membranes were applied to the other site. The animals were sacrificed at 7 months after surgery and the specimens were processed for histological evaluation. Results The average length of new attachment formed on the treated roots in both groups ranged from 3.02 mm to 4.5 mm. Complete bone filling was observed at the furcation sites. No statistically significant differences were found between two membranes in any of the parameters (P>0.05). Conclusion This study demonstrates favorable regenerative outcomes by the use of two different types of PLA membranes that could be used as alternatives for guided tissue regeneration (GTR).  相似文献

PURPOSE: To evaluate the development of posterior capsule opacification (PCO) in patients implanted with 5.5 mm optics, single-piece or three-piece acrylic intraocular lens (IOL) in cataract surgery prospectively. METHODS: This study was carried out on 267 eyes of 249 patients implanted with three-piece, 5.5 mm optics, acrylic IOL and 252 eyes of 244 patients implanted with single-piece, 5.5 mm optics, acrylic IOL by phacoemulsification technique between September 2001 and February 2003. A total of 519 eyes of 493 patients were prospectively evaluated for PCO development during the 25-month period. All the patients were analyzed periodically with anterior segment retroillumination photography. The data provided were analyzed with chi-square method. RESULTS: The results between the two groups for PCO development were not statistically significant. However, there was a prominent opacification of the posterior capsule where the optic and haptic junction of IOL was positioned in some patients implanted with single-piece IOL. During the follow-up period, no patients implanted with either three-piece or single-piece acrylic IOL required Nd:YAG laser capsulotomy. CONCLUSIONS: Biocompatibility and reduced rate of PCO development are among the leading features of new generation IOLs. The intracapsular implantation of 5.5 mm optics acrylic IOLs resulted in decreased incidence of PCO and therefore greater patient satisfaction. Further studies investigating the effects of IOL optics, haptic structure and length, capsulorrhexis size, and IOL material and design features on PCO development will clarify the subject.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Bioabsorbable membranes have been successfully used for guided tissue regeneration (GTR) and local delivery systems because they are biocompatible and do not require second surgery for removal. Several studies have demonstrated that metronidazole, when applied topically, produced immediate effects on microbiological and clinical parameters, most notably a reduction in probing depth and loss of attachment. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the regenerative potential of a metronidazole-loaded biodegradable (polylactide/glycolide) (PLGA) GTR membrane in dogs. METHODS: Six male adult dogs with 36 created osseous defects were enrolled. Bilateral dehiscence type defects in 5 mm diameter were created at buccal aspect of the alveolar bone in maxillary premolar teeth. After full thickness flap elevation, exposed root surfaces were thoroughly planed. In the experimental sites, PLGA membranes with or without metronidazole were fitted and placed over the defects. On the control defects only root planing was performed. Gingival flaps were replaced slightly coronal to the cemento-enamel junction. Animals were sacrificed at 60 days. The histometric analysis was evaluated with the following parameters: defect height (DH), apical extension of junctional epithelium (AEJE), new cementum height (NCH), new bone height (NBH), and new gingival connective tissue height (NCTH). RESULTS: Postoperative clinical healing was similar in the 3 groups. There were no statistically significant differences between the 2 experimental groups in any parameters. Statistically significant differences were observed for AEJE, NCH, NBH, and NCTH in experimental groups when compared with the controls. Statistically significantly greater NCH, NBH, and NCTH were seen in the experimental groups than the controls and control defects showed longer AEJE than the experimental defects. CONCLUSIONS: These results suggest that PLGA membranes with and without metronidazole may have a beneficial effect on periodontal regeneration.  相似文献

Lichen planus is a common chronic mucocutaneous disease of unknown cause. Several types of lichen planus (reticular, atrophic, erosive and bullous) within the oral cavity have been described, among which the reticular and erosive types are the most common types,1,2 while the bullous type is rarely observed.1,3 Bullous lichen planus (BLP) lesions are commonly seen on the buccal mucosa, most frequently at the posterior areas adjacent to the second and third molar teeth. Less common localizations are gingiva and inner aspect of the lips.4 Bullae are generally short lived and leave ulcerated lesions on rupturing.1 The clinical diagnosis of bullous lichen planus is extremely difficult, and pathological examinations may be necessary to establish a definitive diagnosis.5  相似文献

Protein-energy malnutrition (PEM) has been estimated to occur in 10 to 50% of children with juvenile chronic arthritis (JCA). Thirty-eight children with JCA were evaluated and their nutritional status determined, and they were compared with 23 healthy sex and age-matched children as controls. A standardized, 9-parameter comprehensive nutritional assessment profile was used. The simple anthropometric measurements, height and weight for age, were abnormal in 30% and 27% of the patients, respectively. A detailed evaluation revealed that 71% had abnormal somatic protein stores, and that they also had significantly low levels of visceral protein stores, when compared to their healthy peers. The results were consistent with the fact that inflammation put the JCA patients at significant risk for developing complicated malnutrition and it might result in PEM without any obvious signs of malnutrition. A nutritional screening test would be very useful in detecting early PEM in children with chronic arthritis.  相似文献

p53 antibodies have been found in the sera of patients with various types of cancer. The presence of these antibodies is generally associated with p53 accumulation in the tumour that is believed to trigger this humoral response. The recent discovery of 2 new members of the p53 family, p73 and p63, led us to study the specificity of this immune response towards the 3 proteins. Serum samples from 148 patients with various types of cancer were tested for antibodies against p73 and p63 using immunoprecipitation. 72 patients were previously shown to have p53 antibodies whereas 76 were negative. The control group consisted of 50 blood donors. p73 were detected in 22/148 (14.9%) of the cancer patients (11/72 in the group with p53-antibodies and 11/76 in the negative group). Only two sera from the control (4%) were positive. p63 antibodies were detected in only 4/148 (2.7%) of the cancer patients. Epitope mappings were performed and demonstrate that p73 antibodies are directed toward the central region of the p73 protein whereas p53 antibodies react predominantly toward the amino- and the carboxy-terminus of p53. Our results indicate that there is a specific immune response toward the p73 protein in cancer patients, a finding supported by an increasing number of publications describing p73 accumulation in tumoral cells.  相似文献

A method for separation–preconcentration of Cu(II) and Pb(III) ions by membrane filtration has been presented. The analyte ions were collected on acetate membrane filter as their 1-2-pyridylazo 2-naphthol (PAN) complexes. The analytes were determined by flame atomic absorption spectrometry. The analytical parameters including pH, eluent type, sample volume, amount of PAN, etc. were examined in order to gain quantitative recoveries of analyte ions. The effects of foreign ions on the recoveries of analyte ions were also investigated. The detection limits by three sigma were found to be 1.2 and 3.5 μg L−1 for Cu(II) and Pb(II), respectively. The preconcentration factor was 60 for Cu(II) and 20 for Pb(II). The validation of the presented procedure was checked by the analysis of certified reference materials. The optimized method was successfully applied to food, water and geological samples with good results.  相似文献

A rare case of acromesomelic dysplasia is reported. The radiological findings were consistent with shortness of all tubular bones, especially those of the forearms.
