O-beta-D-Galactopyranosyl-(1----4)-O-beta-D-galactopyranosyl-(1----4)-D- glucopyranose (designated as 4'GL) is produced from lactose by Cryptococcus laurentii. The influence of chronic ingestion of 4'GL on body weight gain, organ weight, serum lipids, and liver lipids was investigated in rats. The body weight gains of the 5% and 10% 4'GL-diet groups were higher than that of the control group. Food intake and fecal dry weight were significantly increased (p less than 0.05) by 4'GL feeding. The 4'GL diet produced a significant increase (p less than 0.01) in the wet weight and contents of both the cecum and the colon. However, no significant increase was observed in the weight of the stomach, small intestine, liver, or other organs. The effects of 4'GL on serum and liver lipid levels were not observed in this experiment. The digestion of 4'GL was measured in vitro using the artificial gastric juice, alpha-amylase of human saliva, alpha-amylase of hog pancreas, and mucosa of rat intestine. 4'GL was not hydrolyzed by these enzymes. Long-term ingestion of 4'GL did not cause any induction of 4'GL hydrolyzing enzyme activity in the rat small intestine. 相似文献

A black adenoma of the adrenal cortex was surgically removed from an 18-year-old female who had clinical and laboratory findings characteristic of Cushing's syndrome. The electron microscopic study revealed typical features of steroid-producing cells, including a prominent smooth and rough endoplasmic reticulum, and mitochondria. In addition, many of the adenoma cells contained numerous pigmented granules which were lipofuscin. Three months after the surgery, the hormone levels returned to the normal range. The effects of fasting on the pharmacokinetics of biperiden in rats were examined. Total clearance of biperiden was greater than 90% ascribable to hepatic clearance and was essentially blood-flow dependent. The number of compartments in the preferred pharmacokinetic model of biperiden changed from three (for normal rats) to two (for fasted rats). The smaller mean residence time (MRT) values found for fasted rats were attributable to decreases in distribution volume. Biperiden showed much higher lipophilicity than haloperidol, thiopental, and hexobarbital, and its tissue-to-plasma partition coefficient in adipose tissue was 20-fold higher than that in muscle. The influence of changes in volumes of adipose tissue and muscle on distribution volume (Vdss/BW) was evaluated from tissue-to-plasma partition coefficients. The value of Vdss/BW was predicted to decrease with decrease of adipose tissue, and to increase with decrease of muscle tissue. These results suggest that the observed decrease of Vdss/BW in fasted rats reflects reduced capacity to trap biperiden in the body, especially in adipose tissue. The aim of this study was to establish a pressure ulcer model that visualizes the microcirculation, and to examine the participation of ischemia-reperfusion injury in the pathophysiology of pressure ulcers. An original system composed of a new skin fold chamber and compression device allowed loading quantitative vertical stress to the skin. An intravital microscopic technique enabled direct visualization of the microcirculation in the physiological condition and in response to pressure application. To estimate the effect of ischemia-reperfusion injury, animals were divided into two groups: the compression-release group (n = 8), in which the animals received four cycles of compression-release which consisted of 2 hours of compression followed by 1 hour of pressure release; and the compression alone group (n = 8) in which the animals underwent continuous compression for 8 hours. Functional capillary density was quantified before the compression procedure and on day 1 (35 hours) after the first evaluation. The cyclic compression-release procedure significantly decreased functional capillary density as compared to continuous compression, indicating that in our experimental setting repetition of ischemia-reperfusion cycle more severely damaged the microcirculation than single prolonged ischemic insult. This finding supports the significant contribution of ischemia-reperfusion injury to the pathophysiology of pressure ulcers at the level of dynamic in vivo microcirculation. 相似文献

A 51-year-old male who showed severe ataxia, dysarthria, bilateral blepharoptosis, diplopia and nystagmus with the subacute onset was reported. The chest roentgenogram and CT scan revealed mass lesions at the hilus of the left lung. The tumor markers, NSE and ProGRP, were elevated; 12.8 ng/ml (< or = 10) and 140.7 pg/ml (< or = 46), respectively. The biopsy was performed surgically and the small cell carcinoma of the lung was confirmed pathologically. His cerebellar symptoms were considered to be caused by the paraneoplastc cerebellar degeneration. However, the blepharoptosis was peculiar. The electrophysiological studies were carried out The muscle strength test of the right APB muscle was 5. But the supramaximum stimulation of the right median nerve evoked only 2.0 mV of CMAP of the right APB muscle. The repetitive stimulation tests of the same nerve showed that 3 Hz stimulation resulted in 42% waning but 20 Hz stimulation evoked no waxing. The post-exercise test of the right APB muscle showed 73% increase of the CMAP. These findings indicated that he also suffered from Lambert-Eaton myasthenic syndrome. The titer of the antibody against the P/Q type voltage-gated calcium channel (VGCC) was remarkably elevated, 1,920 pM. None of the following antibodies were detected ; they included antibodies against acetylcholine receptor, Hu, Yo, Ri, Ma-2, CRMP-5, amphiphysin and glutamic acid dehydrogenase. The small cell carcinoma was treated with the combination of irinotecan hydrochloride and cisplatin, leading to the reduction of the mass lesions and the tumor markers. His cerebellar symptoms improved slightly but his blepharoptosis was unchanged. The titer of antibody against the P/Q type VGCC reduced remarkably to 451.8 pM. We reviewed reported cases associated with paraneoplastic cerebellar degeneration and Lambert-Eaton myasthenic syndrome and discussed the relation between the paraneoplastic syndromes and autoantibodies. 相似文献

We report herein a new method of performing laparoscopic pyloromyotomy for infantile hypertrophic pyloric stenosis, using refined surgical techniques. The pyloric tumor was immobilized by grasping the first portion of the duodenum and the anterior wall of the stomach, and electrocoagulation was used prior to incising the pyloric tumor to minimize bleeding during the procedure. Although this technique has been applied in only two patients so far, we present the details herein. We believe that with technical and instrumental refinements, the speed and safety of laparoscopic pyloromyotomy will improve and it will become an alternative to open surgery in pediatric patients. 相似文献
