Prostaglandins E and F were measured in the testis, epididymis, vas deferens, and seminal vesicles of CD-1 mice from 2 to 8 weeks of age. The concentration of PGF was higher than that of PGE in all organs studied, except for the vas deferens. The concentration of prostaglandins (PGs) was age-dependent, showing a progressive decline from immaturity to adulthood. However, in the testis, there was an apparent transient increase in the concentration of PGs in the seminal vesicle changed very little between the ages of 5 and 8 weeks. The vas deferens had a significantly higher PG concentration than any of the organs studied, and a unique pattern of changes in the levels of PGE and PGF with age. In the vas deferens of two- and three-week-old mice, the concentration of PGF was higher than the concentration of PGE, but after 4 weeks of age PGE became somewhat more abundant than PGF. Treatment of immature mice with testosterone propionate (TP) produced significant changes in PG concentrations, resulting in PG levels resembling those of adult animals. The treatment also changed the ratio of PGE to PGF in the vas deferens (from 1:2 to 1:1). Hereditary dwarf mice had higher levels of PGs in the tissues of the male reproductive system than did their normal littermates. The treatment of dwarf mice with TP generally reduced the concentration of PGs in their reproductive system and resulted in a PG pattern more characteristic of normal adult males of the same strain. The data demonstrate pronounced changes in PG levels in the tissues of the male reporductive system of mice during sexual maturation. From the present study and from previous findings, it can be concluded that these changes can be accounted for by an increase in testicular testosterone secretion. 相似文献

Objectives:To outline our experience with both arterial vascular thoracic outlet syndrome (ATOS) and venous TOS (VTOS).Methods:This was a retrospective review carried out at King Saud University Medical City, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from 1992-2022. All patients were diagnosed based on clinical presentation, imaging, and underwent surgical decompression solely via the supraclavicular approach. The median follow-up period was 18 months (range: 4-36 months).Results:A total of 90 limbs were diagnosed with vascular TOS in 69 patients. Females accounted for 69.6% of the patients and approximately 86.7% had ATOS. All patients were symptomatic and underwent plain thoracic inlet and cervical spine radiography, along with duplex scans in both rest and provocative positions. Total cervical rib resection was carried out in 60% of cases, while 2% had partial resection. First rib resection was carried out in 13.3% of cases and combined cervical and first rib resections were carried out in 23.3%. Vascular procedures were needed for arterial repair in 20% of cases, while venous repair were carried out in 2.2%. No recurrence or post-operative mortality had been reported. Post-operative complications were observed in 18.9% of cases.Conclusion:Careful patient selection and diagnosis using advanced, but less invasive radiological imaging coupled with adequate surgical treatment can improve the patient’s outcome. 相似文献

Nickel (Ni+2) accumulation in wastewater treatment sludge poses a potential environmental risk with biosolids-land application. An incubation experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect of nanoparticles of zero-valent iron (nZVI) on Ni+2 sorption in biosolids-treated agricultural soils. Two application rates of biosolids (0, 5%, w/w) and four treatment levels (0, 1, 5, and 10 g/kg) of nZVI were examined, either separately or interactively. The results of this study showed significant differences in Ni+2 sorption capacity between different nZVI treatments. The initial Ni+2 concentration in biosolids-amended soil significantly affected Ni sorption in the soil treated with nZVI. The “H-shape” of sorption isotherm in nZVI-treated soil reflects strong interaction between the Ni concentration and the nZVI treatment, while the C-shape of sorption isotherm in biosolids-amended soil without the nZVI treatment indicates intermediate affinity for Ni+2 sorption. Nickel retention in soil was increased with the increase of nZVI levels. The removal efficiency of Ni+2 by nZVI from solution was increased with the increase of pH from 5 to 11 and reached a maximum of 99.56% at pH 11 and nZVI treatment of 10 g/kg. The Ni+2 desorption rate decreased from 92 to 7, 4, and 1% with increasing nZVI treatment levels from 0 to 1, 5, and 10 g/kg, respectively, with a soil Ni+2 concentration of 50 mg/L. The maximum adsorption capacity (𝑞max) of 10 g/kg nZVI-treated soil was 333.3 mg/g, which was much higher than those from the other treatments of 0 (5 mg/g), 1 (25 mg/g), and 5 g/kg (125 mg/g). The underlying mechanism for Ni+2 immobilization using nZVI in an aquatic environment is controlled by a sorption process, reduction of metal ion to zero-valent metal, as well as (co)precipitation. Moreover, increasing the nZVI treatment level in biosolids-amended soil significantly decreased bioavailable Ni+2 concentrations in the soil. 相似文献

A simple, cost-effective, and efficient differential pulse voltammetric (DPV) assay for monitoring spiramycin adipate (SPA) in its dosage forms, urine, and milk samples at an activated glassy carbon electrode (GCE) was developed. GCE was electrochemically activated by anodization at a high positive voltage (2.5 V). The activated glassy carbon electrode (AGCE) was surface characterized, optimized, and utilized for the electrochemical assay of SPA. The electrochemical behavior of the AGCEs was investigated using cyclic voltammetry (CV) which shows a remarkable increase in the anodic peak of SPA in comparison with GCE. This behavior reflects a remarkable increase in the electrocatalytic oxidation of SPA at AGCE. The impacts of various parameters such as scan rate, accumulation time, and pH were investigated. The analytical performance of the activated glassy carbon electrodes was studied utilizing DPV. Under optimum conditions, the oxidation peak current exhibited two linear ranges of 80 nm to 0.8 μM and 0.85–300 μM with a lower limit of detection (LOD) of 20 nM. The developed assay exhibited high sensitivity, excellent repeatability, and good selectivity. Additionally, the developed SPA-sensitive modified GCE was successfully applied for SPA assay in its pharmaceutical dosage form and diluted biological fluids as well, with satisfactory recovery results which correlated well with the results obtained using spectrophotometry.An electrochemically activated glassy carbon electrode was utilized as a cost-effective, environmentally friendly, and operationally simple sensor for sensitive and selective determination of spiramycin in dosage form, spiked milk and urine samples. 相似文献

PURPOSE: To report a case of corneal infection with Chrysosporium parvum, a filamentous fungus usually associated with pulmonary infections. METHODS: A 43-year-old Saudi man had a corneal stromal infiltrate and perforation of his left eye. He was treated with a therapeutic penetrating keratoplasty and topical and systemic antifungal therapy. Corneal scrapings, microbiologic evaluation, and histopathologic examination of the surgical specimen were performed to establish the diagnosis. After the development of recurrent stromal keratitis at the graft-host junction, similar diagnostic and therapeutic maneuvers were performed. RESULTS: Corneal scrapings and histopathologic examination were positive for numerous septate hyphae with endospores, consistent with a diagnosis of filamentous keratomycosis. Microbiologic isolation confirmed the diagnosis of Chrysosporium parvum. Similar diagnostic maneuvers for recurrent keratitis produced identical results. CONCLUSION: To our knowledge, this is the first case of Chrysosporium parvum keratomycosis. 相似文献

BACKGROUND: Despite the great progress which has been made in the treatment of acute digitalis intoxication by digoxin-immune Fab, it still remains a severe complication of cardiotonic therapy. CASE REPORT: A neonate with ventricular septal defect and large left-to-right shunt was treated with digitalis and diuretics at the usual starting doses. An intensive phototherapy was also required because of a hyperbilirubinemia due to glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency. Toxic digoxin accumulation (plasma level 14 ng/mL) was diagnosed three days after the initiation of treatment by the presence of sinus bradycardia and bursts of ventricular fibrillation. Intravenous administration of digoxin-specific antibody Fab fragments (Digidot) was effective, with a rapid improvement of the digitalis poisoning. CONCLUSION: Because of the particularities concerning drug distribution, metabolism and elimination of drugs in the neonatal period, the digoxin therapeutic index is narrow. This case report suggests the involvement of phototherapy and diuretics, which might induce a significant decrease in extracellular water and drug distribution volumes, ultimately promoting the occurrence of an intoxication. 相似文献
