Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine the differences in body mass index (BMI), levels of cholesterol, and levels of triglycerides (TGs) among urolithiasis patients with different stone compositions. Materials and methods: Forty-nine patients who had a diagnosis of nephrolithiasis and had undergone open surgery or percutaneous surgery were included, and patients without urolithiasis were randomly selected as controls. Urinary stones were collected and analyzed using infrared spectroscopy. Data relating to patient's age, BMI at diagnosis, serum total cholesterol (TC), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) were collected. The stone groups including calcium oxalate monohydrate-calcium oxalate dihydrate (COM-COD), COM, and uric acid were compared with one another and with the control group. In addition, the stone formers group (COM-COD, COM, uric acid, calcium phosphate, and mixed-type stones) was compared to the control group. Results: BMI, TC, and TG levels were significantly higher in stone formers compared with the control group; this association of BMI and TC with stone formation was more prominent in uric acid and COM-COD stone formers, but there was no such prominence for COM stones. LDL-C levels in COM-COD stone formers were significantly higher when compared with COM stone formers. Conclusion: Elevated BMI, hypercholesterolemia, and hyperlipidemia, which are leading components of metabolic syndrome, may be associated with different types of urinary stone formation.  相似文献

Background: The aim of this study is to evaluate the levels of serum lipoprotein‐associated phospholipase A2 (Lp‐PLA2) and high‐sensitivity C‐reactive protein (hsCRP) in association with periodontal disease and hyperlipidemia. Methods: A total of 123 subjects with hyperlipidemia and 68 systemically healthy controls were included in the study. Subjects with hyperlipidemia were divided into two groups: the suggested‐diet (HD) and prescribed‐statin (HS) groups and then into three subgroups: the healthy (HDh and HSh), gingivitis (HDg and HSg), and periodontitis (HDp and HSp) groups. Periodontal parameters were recorded and included the plaque index, gingival index (GI), probing depth (PD), clinical attachment level (CAL), and percentage of sites with bleeding on probing (BOP). Fasting venous blood samples were obtained, and serum lipid, Lp‐PLA2, and hsCRP levels were evaluated. Results: Median values for the GI, PD, BOP(%), and CAL in the HSg group were statistically significantly higher than those in the HDg and systemically healthy with gingivitis (Cg) groups. The HSp group had higher percentages of BOP compared to those of the chronic periodontitis and HDp groups. The HDg group had higher serum Lp‐PLA2 and hsCRP levels compared to those of the Cg and HSg groups. The ratio of total cholesterol to high‐density lipoprotein cholesterol (TC/HDL) was significantly associated with the GI, PD, and BOP(%) in both groups with hyperlipidemia. Serum Lp‐PLA2 and hsCRP levels were significantly correlated with TC/HDL, the GI, PD, and BOP(%) in the HD group. Conclusions: Serum Lp‐PLA2 and hsCRP levels may play an important role in the association between periodontal disease and hyperlipidemia, and the control of these mediators may affect the inflammatory control of patients with hyperlipidemia and periodontal disease.  相似文献

The effects of altering the type of dietary fat on plasma lipid and lipoprotein levels were investigated in streptozotocin‐diabetic rats fed non‐purified diets containing corn oil, olive oil, cod‐liver oil, sheep tallow and lard. After 32 days of experimental feeding, plasma levels of glucose, triglycerides, total cholesterol, low density and high density lipoprotein cholesterol were determined. Body weights and food intake were also measured. In neither animal group did the type of fat in the diet affect significantly the plasma levels of lipids and lipoproteins and their calculated ratios, and plasma glucose, body weight change or accumulative food intakes. In all studied diabetic rats, significant correlations were observed between body weight change and the following plasma variables: total cholesterol level (r = —0.37, P < 0.03), low density lipoprotein cholesterol level (r = —0.38, P<0.03) and triglycéride concentration (r = —0.36, P < 0.04). A significant positive correlation (r = 0.60, P < 0.0003) was also found between plasma levels of glucose and triglycérides. No significant correlations were noticed between accumulative food intakes and any of the studied variables. It is concluded that, in uncontrolled hyperglycemia in diabetes, the type of fat in the diet exerts little or no influence on plasma lipid and lipoprotein concentrations.  相似文献

The septohippocampal system regulates spatial behavior, memory and response flexibility. This experiment determined which of these functions is disrupted by medial septal lesions which impair operant delayed alternation in rats. Male hooded rats received either medial septal lesions or a control operation. Following recovery, they were reinforced for alternating left and right lever presses in an operant chamber. The effects of various delays (0, 10 and 20 s), and exteroceptive cues were assessed. Medial septal lesions did not impair alternation performance at the 0-s delay, but did produce severe impairments at the 10- and 20-s delays. An exteroceptive light cue which reduced the spatial requirements of the task did not ameliorate this impairment. However, an exteroceptive light cue which reduced the working-memory requirements of the task did ameliorate the lesion-induced deficit on delayed alternation. While the lesioned rats also made more perseverative errors than the controls, statistically removing this influence from the data did not modify the results. These data suggest that medial septal lesions in rats impair operant delayed alternation by disrupting the general process of working-memory rather than spatial behavior or response flexibility.  相似文献
