Current advances in rhinomanometry were reviewed in this paper. Active posterior rhinomanometry with a “head-out” body plethysmograph may be the least invasive method currently available for measuring nasal patency. In general, active anterior rhinomanometry with a face mask or a nasal nozzle has been employed in various studies throughout the world. Nasal resistance as calculated from the equationR = 0.78 (ΔP/V)1.33 at any points on a pressure/flow curve, or averaged nasal resistance may be the most suitable expression for nasal patency. Values for nasal resistance at ΔP 100 Pa in Japanese patients or ΔP 150 Pa in Caucasians have been widely employed as standard objective data for nasal obstruction, although rhinomanometric results sometimes do not agree with subjective evaluation of nasal obstruction. Nasal airflow acceleration or peak flow index during nasal breathing at rest can be applied as warranted to confirm an objective diagnosis of symptomatic nasal obstruction. Further, nationality and anthropological characteristics can be related to the severity and type of stuffiness.  相似文献

We studied the changes in the serum creatinine level and the volume of the remaining kidney following nephrectomy using contrast-enhanced compounded tomogram (CT) scans. Twenty-five patients undergoing nephrectomy for renal cell carcinoma without obvious disease in the remaining kidney were carefully followed for a period of at least two years at our hospital. Twelve patients received follow-up CT scans each year after nephrectomy. The ellipsoid volume of the kidney was calculated by measuring the 3-dimensional size on CT scans. The mean relative volume (%) of the remaining kidney increased up to year 3 postoperatively, and the final mean relative volume at varying periods from years 2 to 7 was 120%. Kidneys that were smaller prior to nephrectomy showed a tendency to have a larger final relative volume after nephrectomy, although there was no significant correlation between the kidney volume prior to nephrectomy and at final measurement. The mean serum creatinine level was significantly increased at one year after nephrectomy, but it decreased significantly over time. Therefore, both compensatory renal hypertrophy and improved renal function seemed to be established within several years after nephrectomy. However, the improvement of serum creatinine was delayed compared with the increase of kidney volume. That is, renal plasma flow might be increased early by compensatory renal hypertrophy, followed within a few years by an increase in glomerular filtration and a decrease of serum creatinine.  相似文献

This 68-year-old woman underwent a distal gastrectomy for gastric cancer in August 1994. A presumed meningioma of the falx was found incidentally on a staging examination of the gastric cancer, but the meningioma was not treated with surgery. Instead, after gastrectomy the patient received tegafur as adjuvant chemotherapy until February 1996, when she was readmitted to the hospital because of loss of appetite and emaciation but with no recurrence of the gastric cancer. A computerized tomography scan obtained during this second admission showed no change in the meningioma. To improve her general condition, tegafur was discontinued and she was started on a course of the antiestrogen agent mepitiostane. Administration of mepitiostane for approximately 2 years resulted in a marked regression (73%) of the meningioma. This is the first reported case of a presumed meningioma that regressed as a result of use of the antiestrogen agent mepitiostane.  相似文献

Antitumor activity of interleukin-12 against murine bladder cancer   总被引:5,自引:0,他引:5  
PURPOSE: We investigated the antitumor activity of interleukin-12 (IL-12) against MBT-2, a murine bladder carcinoma, to clarify whether or not IL-12 is effective against urothelial tumors. MATERIALS AND METHODS: MBT-2, a murine carcinogen-induced, poorly differentiated transitional cell carcinoma of C3H/He origin, was used. Three or 10 days after the subcutaneous administration of MBT-2 cells, C3H/He mice were injected intraperitoneally with IL-12 five times per wk. for 2 wk. Tumor growth was measured twice weekly. Spleen cells from the C3H/He mice that had rejected MBT-2 after the IL-12 treatment were examined for MBT-2-specific cytolytic T lymphocytes (CTL) activity and cytokine production. RESULTS: Tumor growth and acceptance was obviously suppressed when C3H/He mice were treated with IL-12 from 3 days after the tumor inoculation. In the spleen cells from the C3H/He mice that had rejected MBT-2, MBT-2-specific CTL activity and secretion of IL-2 and interferon (IFN)-gamma were clearly detected. However, the established MBT-2 tumor cells were not rejected when C3H/He mice were given IL-12 from 10 days after the tumor inoculation, although the tumor growth was transiently suppressed during the IL-12 treatment. CONCLUSION: These data demonstrate that IL-12 is considerably effective against murine bladder cancer and suggest the clinical application of IL-12 against human bladder cancer.  相似文献

AIM: The aim of the present study was to explore whether heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) is involved in the hyperthermia-provided protection of the small intestine from ischemia/reperfusion injury in rats. METHODS: Intestinal damage was induced in male Sprague-Dawley rats by clamping both the superior mesenteric artery and the celiac trunk for 30 min, followed by reperfusion. Whole-body hyperthermia was induced in anesthetized rats by placement in a temperature-controlled water bath. Whole-body hyperthermia to a core temperature of 42-43 degrees C for 15 min was followed by passive cooling. We started the hyperthermic treatment 6 h before the vascular clamping. The severity of the mucosal injury was evaluated by several biochemical markers and histological findings. Hyperthermia-induced heat-shock proteins were detected by Western blotting. We also investigated the effect of zinc protoporphyrin IX (an HO-1 inhibitor) on the protective effect of hyperthermia. RESULTS: The rats, which were killed after ischemia/reperfusion, had severe intestinal inflammation. Hyperthermia significantly induced the production of Hsp70 and HO-1 in intestinal mucosa and significantly reduced ischemia/reperfusion-induced mucosal injury. The combination of zinc protoporphyrin IX with hyperthermia extinguished the protective effects of hyperthermia on ischemia/reperfusion injury. CONCLUSION: Hyperthermia protects against ischemia/reperfusion injury in rat small intestine through the expression of heat-shock proteins, especially HO-1.  相似文献

We performed a operation using a mini mid-line skin incision for ten-year-old male with funnel chest. The skin incision was made from the level of nipple to the lower end of the xiphoid process. He had sternal elevation as corrective surgery. There was no complication and he discharged at 11th day after surgery. We believe our method is more appropriate in fulfilling the cosmetic needs for the patient of funnel chest.  相似文献
