Objectives: The purpose of the present study was to investigate the effects of the 16-week exercise training program on serum omentin-1 in relation to change in insulin resistance in obese male children.

Methods: Thirty-two obese male children, aged 9–12 years, were randomly assigned into Exercise Group (ExG; n = 16) and Control Group (CG; n = 16). ExG participated in a 16-week exercise training program which combined various forms of aerobic activities and resistance training. Body composition, body mass index (BMI), waist circumference (WC), fasting glucose and insulin, homeostasis model assessment estimate of insulin resistance (HOMA2-IR), blood lipids and serum omentin-1 were assessed before and after 16 weeks of training.

Results: Exercise training significantly decreased body mass (7.5%), BMI (7.6%), WC (4.3%), body fat % (15%), fasting insulin (18.5%), total cholesterol (TC) (5.4%), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) (17%) and triglyceride (TG) (7.4%) compared to CG. Between-groups comparison showed a considerable exercise-induced upregulation in omentin-1 (ES = 89; P < 0.05) levels. Furthermore, in ExG serum omentin-1 levels were significantly increased from 24.5 ± 8.4 to 35.9 ± 9.3 ng/ml (45%; P < 0.001) after the training program, which was accompanied with significantly decreased fasting insulin (P < 0.001). The changes in omentin-1 concentrations correlated with the changes in BMI (r = ?0.67, P < 0.001), WC (r = ?0.62, P = 0.002), body fat % (r = ?0.50, P = 0.004), insulin (r = ?0.65, P = 0.001), HOMA2-IR (r = ?0.60, P = 0.004), TC (r = ?0.53, P = 0.004) and LDL-C (r = ?0.51, P = 0.004) in ExG. BMI (β = ?0.50, P = 0.009) and fasting insulin (β = ?0.54, P = 0.006) changes were found to be independent predictors of omentin-1 increment in multiple regression analysis.

Conclusion: Exercise training resulted in a significant increase in serum omentin-1 concentrations in children with obesity. The ?ndings suggest that exercise-induced changes in omentin-1 may be associated with the bene?cial effects of exercise on reduced insulin and weight lost.  相似文献

BackgroundCoronary artery disease (CAD) develops as a result of atherosclerosis. Atherosclerosis is a condition that leads to clogged arteries and can be caused by a variety of factors. Several studies have shown that various factors contribute to the development and progression of CAD. The aim of this study was to investigate the serum levels of MBL‐2, TNC and TAC in patients with CAD and the relationship between these biochemical parameters and the progression of CAD.MethodsIn this study, 60 serum samples were obtained from CAD patients as the case group and 20 healthy serum samples as the control group. Serum levels of MBL‐2 and TNC were measured by the ELISA method. Serum TAC level was determined by calorimetry (spectrophotometry). In addition, MDA serum level was measured by reaction with thiobarbituric acid (TBA).ResultsThe mean age in the case and control groups was 58.4 ± 9.5 years and 85 ± 9.8 years, respectively. There was no significant difference in age, sex and family history in patients with CAD (p > 0.05), but there was a significant difference in blood pressure and smoking history (p > 0.05). Serum cholesterol, triglyceride, and LDL levels were significantly increased in the case group compared to the control group, while serum HDL‐C levels were significantly decreased in the case group. Serum levels of MBL‐2, TNC, and MDA were significantly increased in the case group compared to the control group. The serum level of TAC was significantly lower in the case group than in the control group.ConclusionThis study suggests that it is possible to diagnose patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) in the early stages of their disease and take preventive measures by measuring these parameters in serum. However, more research is needed before these serum parameters can be considered diagnostic biomarkers or therapeutic targets.  相似文献

Objective

To evaluate the effects of aqueous extract of Carthamus tinctorius L., also named safflower, on mouse spermatogenesis.

Methods

Sixteen adult male NMRI mice were used. Experimental group received Carthamus tinctorius L. extract at the dose of 200 mg/kg for 35 consecutive days and control group received only distilled water. Testicular histopathology, morphometric analysis and spermatogenesis assessments were performed for evaluation of the Carthamus tinctorius L. extract effects on testis.

Results

Histopathological criteria such as epithelial vacuolization, sloughing of germ and detachment were significantly decreased in Carthamus tinctorius L. treated mice (p < 0.001). Carthamus tinctorius L. extract induced formation of multinucleated giant cells in the germinal epithelium. Carthamus tinctorius L. extract also caused a significant decrease in seminiferous tubule diameter, seminiferous epithelium height and maturation arrest (p < 0.001).

Conclusion

Carthamus tinctorius L. extract has toxic effects on mouse testicular tissue, and recommended to use it with caution if there is a reproductive problem.  相似文献

Objective: This study was designed to evaluate the effects of probiotic supplementation on biomarkers of inflammation, oxidative stress and pregnancy outcomes among subjects with gestational diabetes (GDM).

Methods: This randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial was done among 60 subjects with GDM who were not on oral hypoglycemic agents. Patients were randomly allocated to intake either probiotic capsule containing Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillus casei and Bifidobacterium bifidum (2?×?109 CFU/g each) (n?=?30) or placebo (n?=?30) for six?weeks.

Results: Compared with the placebo, probiotic supplementation resulted in significant decreases in fasting plasma glucose (FPG) (?5.3?±?6.7 vs.?+0.03?±?9.0?mg/dL, p?=?.01), serum high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) (?2.2?±?2.7 vs.?+0.5?±?2.4?μg/mL, p?p?=?.03) and MDA/TAC ratio (?0.0003?±?0.0008 vs.?+0.0009?±?0.002, p?=?.004), and a significant increase in total antioxidant capacity (TAC) levels (+65.4?±?103.3 vs. ?37.2?±?143.7?mmol/L, p?=?.002). Probiotic supplementation did not affect pregnancy outcomes.

Conclusions: Overall, probiotic supplementation among women with GDM for six?weeks had beneficial effects on FPG, serum hs-CRP, plasma TAC, MDA and oxidative stress index, but did not affect pregnancy outcomes.  相似文献

Objective: This study was designed to assess the effects of omega-3 fatty acid supplementation on inflammatory factors, biomarkers of oxidative stress, and pregnancy outcomes among pregnant women with gestational diabetes (GDM).

Methods: This randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial was performed among 56 women with GDM. Subjects were randomly selected to receive either 1000?mg omega-3 fatty acid supplements (containing 180?mg eicosapentaenoic acid and 120?mg docosahexanoic acid) (n?=?27) or a placebo (n?=?27) for 6 weeks. Fasting blood samples were taken at study baseline and after 6 weeks of intervention to quantify biochemical variables. Newborn’s weight, height, head circumference, Apgar score, and hyperbilirubinemia were determined.

Results: At the end of the 6 weeks, taking omega-3 fatty acid significantly decreased serum high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) (change from baseline: ?245.1?±?1570.5 versus?+?913.9?±?2329.4?ng/mL, p?=?0.03) and plasma malondialdehyde (MDA) concentrations (?0.4?±?1.3 versus?+?0.6±2.3, p?=?0.04) compared with the placebo. Supplementation with omega-3 had a low incidence of hyperbilirubinemiain newborns (7.7% versus 33.3%, p?=?0.02) and decreased newborns’ hospitalization rate (7.7% versus 33.3%, p?=?0.02).

Conclusions: Taken together, omega-3 fatty acid supplementation in GDM women had beneficial effects on maternal serum hs-CRP, plasma MDA levels, incidence of newborn’s hyperbilirubinemia, and hospitalization.  相似文献

AIM: To assess the hepatic changes after induction of different periods of renal ischemia. METHODS: Rats were subjected to either sham operation or ischemia (30, 45 and 60 min) followed by 60 min reperfusion. Liver and renal functional indices were measured. Hepatic glutathione (GSH) and ferric reducing antioxidant power levels and the concentration of interleukin (IL)-10 and tumor necrosis factor (TNF-α) were evaluated. Portions of liver and kidney tissues were fixed for histological evaluation. RESULTS: Forty-five minutes renal ischemia followed by 60 min reperfusion caused significant changes in liver structure and a significant reduction in renal function. These rats showed a significant decrease in liver GSH, as well as a significant increase in TNF-α and IL-10 concentrations. These results demonstrated that renal ischemia caused changes in liver histology, function, oxidative stress and inflammatory status, which led to a reduction in hepatic antioxidant capacity. With 30 min ischemia, the magnitude of these changes was less than those with 45 or 60 min ischemia. CONCLUSION: A minimum of 45 min ischemia is needed to study the effects of renal injury on the liver as a remote organ.  相似文献
