Metastatic struma ovarii is an extremely rare disease, and the treatment of choice has not been established. Here, we introduce the case of a 36-year-old female pregnant patient with metastatic struma ovarii. Initial treatment was an exploratory laparotomy to remove multiple peritoneal masses. After delivery, a total thyroidectomy was done for the further 131I-therapy. 131I-SPECT/CT and 18 F-FDG PET/CT showed multiple hepatic metastases and extensive peritoneal seeding nodules. Multiple 131I and retinoic acid combination therapies were performed, resulting in marked improvement. 131I-SPECT/CT and 18 F-FDG PET/CT were quite useful for evaluating the biologic characteristics of the metastases.  相似文献

Purified populations of natural killer (NK) cells were obtained from mice with severe combined immune deficiency (SCID). SCID spleen cells were cultured and activated with recombinant human interleukin-2 (rhIL- 2) in vitro. The activated NK cells were then transferred with syngeneic BALB/c bone marrow cells (BMC) and rhIL-2 into lethally irradiated syngeneic recipients to determine their effect on long-term hematopoietic reconstitution. On analysis, the transfer of rhIL-2- activated NK cells along with BMC resulted in significant increases in splenic and BM hematopoietic progenitor cells when compared with those for mice not receiving NK cells. Histologic and flow cytometric analysis showed a marked increase in granulocytic and megakaryocytic lineage cells present in the spleens of the mice receiving activated NK cells. Analysis of the peripheral blood indicated that the transfer of activated NK cells with BMC also significantly improved platelet and total white blood cell counts, with increases in segmented neutrophils. Erythroid recovery was not affected. Finally, lethally irradiated mice receiving activated NK cells and rhIL-2 along with limiting numbers of syngeneic BMC showed a marked increase in survival rate. These results show that the use of populations enriched for activated NK cells after syngeneic BM transplantation (BMT) has a profound enhancing effect on engraftment primarily affecting megakaryocytic and granulocytic cell reconstitution. Therefore, the transfer of activated NK cells and rhIL- 2 may be of clinical use to promote hematopoietic reconstitution after BMT.  相似文献

Stromal interaction molecule 1 (STIM1) mediates Ca2+ movements from the extracellular space to the cytosol through a store-operated Ca2+ entry (SOCE) mechanism in various cells including skeletal muscle cells. In the present study, to reveal the unidentified functional role of the STIM1 C terminus from 449 to 671 amino acids in skeletal muscle, binding assays and quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry were used to identify proteins binding in this region along with proteins that mediate skeletal muscle contraction and relaxation. STIM1 binds to sarcoplasmic/endoplasmic reticulum Ca2+-ATPase 1a (SERCA1a) via this region (called STIM1-SBR). The binding was confirmed in endogenous full-length STIM1 in rabbit skeletal muscle and mouse primary skeletal myotubes via co-immunoprecipitation assay and immunocytochemistry. STIM1 knockdown in mouse primary skeletal myotubes decreased Ca2+ uptake from the cytosol to the sarcoplasmic reticulum (SR) through SERCA1a only at micromolar cytosolic Ca2+ concentrations, suggesting that STIM1 could be required for the full activity of SERCA1a possibly during the relaxation of skeletal muscle. Various Ca2+ imaging experiments using myotubes expressing STIM1-SBR suggest that STIM1 is involved in intracellular Ca2+ distributions between the SR and the cytosol via regulating SERCA1a activity without affecting SOCE. Therefore, in skeletal muscle, STIM1 could play an important role in regulating Ca2+ movements between the SR and the cytosol.  相似文献

Introduction

Stomas often have to be sited in emergencies by trainees who may have had little training in this. Emergency stomas and stomas where the site has not been marked preoperatively by a stoma therapist are more prone to complications. These complications may severely affect a patient’s quality of life. Advice in the literature on how to best site stomas is conflicting. We compared two easy anatomical methods of siting stomas to sites chosen by a stoma therapist and looked at how this site was affected by the patients’ body mass index (BMI).

Methods

Patients undergoing elective colorectal surgery were seen either pre or postoperatively. Each patient’s BMI was recorded and the positions of three different potential stoma positions (site G: the gold standard, marked by a stoma therapist; site S: marked using a pair of scissors against the umbilicus; site H: halfway between the umbilicus and anterior superior iliac spine) were compared.

Results

The two fixed anatomical methods described (method S and method H) both gave poor results. The most common reason for poor siting was the proximity of a skin crease. There was a statistically significant correlation between the patient’s BMI and the laterality of the gold standard site.

Conclusions

The two simple anatomical methods described here do not provide a shortcut to effective siting. A more effective method may be calculating the laterality of the site using the patient’s BMI, and then moving up/down to avoid a skin crease and improve the patient’s view for changing the bag. Semiconducting single-walled carbon nanotubes (s-SWCNTs) have gathered significant interest in various emerging electronics due to their outstanding electrical and mechanical properties. Although large-area and low-cost fabrication of s-SWCNT field effect transistors (FETs) can be easily achieved via solution processing, the electrical performance of the solution-based s-SWCNT FETs is often limited by the charge transport in the s-SWCNT networks and interface between the s-SWCNT and the dielectrics depending on both s-SWCNT solution synthesis and device architecture. Here, we investigate the surface and interfacial electro-chemical behaviors of s-SWCNTs. In addition, we propose a cost-effective and straightforward process capable of minimizing polymers bound to s-SWCNT surfaces acting as an interfering element for the charge carrier transport via a heat-assisted purification (HAP). With the HAP treated s-SWCNTs, we introduced conformal dielectric configuration for s-SWCNT FETs, which are explored by a carefully designed wide array of electrical and chemical characterizations with finite-element analysis (FEA) computer simulation. For more favorable gate-field-induced surface and interfacial behaviors of s-SWCNT, we implemented conformally gated highly capacitive s-SWCNT FETs with ion-gel dielectrics, demonstrating field-effect mobility of ~8.19 cm2/V⋅s and on/off current ratio of ~105 along with negligible hysteresis.  相似文献
