A beneficial property of photogenerated reactive oxygen species (ROS) is the capability of oxidant generation within a specific location or organelle inside a cell. Dibenzothiophene S-oxide (DBTO), which is known to undergo a photodeoxygenation reaction to generate ground state atomic oxygen [O(3P)] upon irradiation, was functionalized to afford localization within the plasma membrane of cells. The photochemistry, as it relates to oxidant generation, was studied and demonstrated that the functionalized DBTO derivatives generated O(3P). Irradiation of these lipophilic O(3P)-precursors in the presence of LDL and within RAW 264.7 cells afforded several oxidized lipid products (oxLP) in the form of aldehydes. The generation of a 2-hexadecenal (2-HDEA) was markedly increased in irradiations where O(3P) was putatively produced. The substantial generation of 2-HDEA is not known to accompany the production of other ROS. These cellular irradiation experiments demonstrate the potential of inducing oxidation with O(3P) in cells.Lipophilic O(3P)-precursors generate 2-hexadecenal upon UV-irradiation. 相似文献

This article presents the annealing effect on the structural, elastic, thermodynamic, optical, magnetic, and electric properties of Ni0.6Zn0.4Fe1.5Al0.5O4 (NZFAO) nanoparticles (NPs). The samples were successfully synthesized by the sol–gel method followed by annealing of the as-synthesized at 600, 800, 900, 1050, and 1200 °C. This approach yielded the formation of a highly crystalline structure with crystallite size ranging from 17 nm to 40 nm. X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) techniques, as well as energy disperse spectroscopy (EDS), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and Raman spectroscopy, were used in order to determine the structural and morphological properties of the prepared samples. Rietveld XRD refinement reveals that Ni–Zn–Al ferrite nanoparticles crystallize in inverse cubic (Fdm) spinel structure. Using FTIR spectra, the elastic and thermodynamic properties were estimated. It was observed that the particle size had a pronounced effect on elastic and thermodynamic properties. Magnetic measurements were performed up to 700 K. The prepared ferrite samples present the highest Curie temperature, which decreases with increasing particle size and which is consistent with finite-size scaling. The thickness of the surface shell of about 1 nm was estimated from size-dependent magnetization measurements using the core–shell model. Besides, spin resonance, magnetostriction, temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR), and electrical resistivity properties have been scientifically studied and appear to be different according to their size. The optical properties of synthesized NZFAO nanoparticles were investigated, and the differences caused by the particle sizes are discussed on the basis of the phonon confinement effect. This effect was also inspected by the Raman analysis. Objective To investigate how important treatment for emotional distress is to primary care patients in general and to primary care patients
with depression, and to evaluate the types of mental health interventions they desire.
Design Patient surveys.
Setting Five private primary care practices.
Measurements and main results Patients' desire for treatment of emotional distress and for specific types of mental health interventions were measured,
as well as patients' ratings of the impact of emotional distress, the frequency of depressive symptoms, and mental health
functioning. Of the 403 patients, 33% felt that it was “somewhat important” and 30% thought it was “extremely important” that
their physician tries to help them with their emotional distress. Patient desire for this help was significantly related to
a diagnosis of depression (P<.001), perceptions about the impact of emotional distress (p<.001), and mental health functioning (p<.001). Among patients with presumptive diagnoses of major and minor depression, 84% and 79%, respectively, felt that it was
at least somewhat important that they receive this help from their physician. Sixty-one percent of all primary care patients
surveyed and 89% of depressed patients desired counseling; 23% of all patients and 33% of depressed patients wanted a medication;
and 11% of all patients and 5% of depressed patients desired a referral to a mental health specialist.
Conclusions A majority of these primary care patients and almost all of the depressed patients felt that it was at least somewhat important
to receive help from their physician for emotional distress. The desire for this help seems to be related to the severity
of the mental health problem. Most of the patients wanted counseling, but relatively few desired a referral to a mental health
specialist.

OBJECTIVES: This study was designed to elucidate possible mechanisms for the prognostic value of troponin T (tnT). BACKGROUND: The reasons for the adverse prognosis associated with elevation of troponins in unstable coronary artery disease are poorly understood. METHODS: Patients enrolled in the Fast Revascularization during InStability in CAD (FRISC-II) trial were included. Clinical characteristics, findings at echocardiography and coronary angiography, and prognosis were evaluated in relation to different tnT levels. RESULTS: Absence of significant coronary stenosis was more frequent and three-vessel disease or left main stem stenosis was less frequent in patients without, compared with, detectable tnT. The occurrence of visible thrombus increased with rising levels of tnT. In the group with the highest levels of tnT, occlusion of the left circumflex artery was more common than in the three other tnT groups, as was a left ventricular ejection fraction below 0.45. The one-year risk of death in the noninvasive arm of the study increased by increasing levels of tnT (1.6% to 4.6%), whereas the risk of myocardial infarction showed an inverted U-shaped curve and was lower in the lowest (5.5%) and highest (8.4%) tnT groups than in the two intermediate groups (17.5% and 16.2%). CONCLUSIONS: Any detectable elevation of tnT raises the probability of significant coronary stenosis and thrombus formation and is associated with an increased risk of reinfarction and death. However, at a more pronounced elevation of troponin, a higher proportion of patients has a persistent occlusion of the culprit vessel and reduced left ventricular function, associated with a high mortality but a modest risk of reinfarction. 相似文献
