PURPOSE: Recent studies have shown that tissue factor (TF) may be involved in tumor angiogenesis and metastasis. The role of TF in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) was unknown. This study evaluated whether TF expression correlates with microvessel density (MVD), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) expression, tumor invasiveness, and prognosis in human HCC. EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN: Tissue samples were obtained from 58 specimens of resected HCC. Immunohistochemical expression of TF was examined, and tumor MVD was evaluated using CD34 as the endothelial marker. TF and VEGF protein levels in the tumor cytosol were quantified by ELISA. Clinicopathologic and follow-up data of patients were prospectively collected. RESULTS: The immunohistochemical expression of TF in the tumors correlated significantly with tumor MVD (P = 0.002). The median cytosolic TF protein level in the tumors was 720 pg/mg total protein (range, 67-2406 pg/mg total protein). A significant positive correlation was found between TF and VEGF levels in the tumor cytosol (r = 0.475, P < 0.001). High tumor cytosolic TF level was associated with venous invasion (P = 0.004), microsatellite nodules (P = 0.024), unencapsulated tumor (P = 0.007), and advanced tumor stage (P = 0.010). A higher than median tumor cytosolic TF level was an independent predictor of poor survival (risk ratio, 1.836; 95% confidence interval 1.130-5.312, P = 0.023). CONCLUSIONS: This study shows that TF is related to tumor angiogenesis and invasiveness in HCC. Evaluation of tumor TF expression may be useful as a prognostic indicator in patients with HCC. 相似文献

Glomerulocystic disease (GCD) is a very rare condition. Only two previous reports have linked this condition with hepatoblastoma.
We report a neonate with US evidence of grossly enlarged echogenic kidneys and features typical of hepatic fibrosis, complicated
by the presence of a hepatoblastoma. The report discusses the differential diagnosis and highlights GCD as one cause of large,
bright kidneys on US. It also adds further evidence to the suggested association between GCD and hepatoblastoma.

Outbreaks of shigellosis in child care are not commonly reported in Australia, however Shigella bacteria can easily spread in these settings. We report an outbreak of shigellosis in a child care centre and discuss the control measures implemented. This investigation identified 20 confirmed cases of Shigella sonnei biotype g and a further 47 probable cases in children and staff who attended a child care centre, and their household contacts. The investigation highlighted the importance of stringent control measures and protocols for dealing with outbreaks of Shigella and other enteric infections in the child care setting, and the importance of prompt notification by both doctors and child care centres, of suspected outbreaks. 相似文献

PURPOSE: Nonmelanoma skin cancer (NMSC) has become the most common type of cancer in many populations throughout the world. Ultraviolet and ionizing radiation are known risk factors. Because NMSCs are rarely lethal and most cancer registries do not routinely report data regarding these cancers, they have received little attention in studies evaluating long-term effects of cancer therapy. This article reports on the occurrence of secondary NMSC as a long-term effect of cancer therapy in survivors of childhood cancer. PATIENTS AND METHODS: The Childhood Cancer Survivor Study (CCSS) is a cohort study of 5-year survivors of childhood and adolescent cancer from 25 participating institutions in North America. NMSC patients were defined by a history of basal cell or squamous cell carcinoma of the skin after primary malignancy treatment. Demographic and treatment data were collected and analyzed. RESULTS: Among the 13,132 eligible CCSS participants, 213 have reported NMSC; 99 patients (46%) have had multiple occurrences. Median age of occurrence was 31 years (range, 7 to 46 years). Location of NMSC included head and neck (43%), back (24%), chest (22%), abdomen and pelvis (5%), extremity (3%), and unknown (4%). Ninety percent of patients had previously received radiation therapy (RT); 90% of tumors occurred within the RT field. RT was associated with a 6.3-fold increase in risk (95% CI, 3.5- to 11.3-fold). CONCLUSION: Long-term survivors of childhood and adolescent cancer who were treated with RT are at highest risk for developing NMSC. Educational efforts need to be directed to this population to facilitate early diagnosis of NMSC and reduction in sun exposure. 相似文献

Flash memories are the preferred choice for data storage in portable gadgets. The charge trapping nonvolatile flash memories are the main contender to replace standard floating gate technology. In this work, we investigate metal/blocking oxide/high-k charge trapping layer/tunnel oxide/Si (MOHOS) structures from the viewpoint of their application as memory cells in charge trapping flash memories. Two different stacks, HfO2/Al2O3 nanolaminates and Al-doped HfO2, are used as the charge trapping layer, and SiO2 (of different thickness) or Al2O3 is used as the tunneling oxide. The charge trapping and memory windows, and retention and endurance characteristics are studied to assess the charge storage ability of memory cells. The influence of post-deposition oxygen annealing on the memory characteristics is also studied. The results reveal that these characteristics are most strongly affected by post-deposition oxygen annealing and the type and thickness of tunneling oxide. The stacks before annealing and the 3.5 nm SiO2 tunneling oxide have favorable charge trapping and retention properties, but their endurance is compromised because of the high electric field vulnerability. Rapid thermal annealing (RTA) in O2 significantly increases the electron trapping (hence, the memory window) in the stacks; however, it deteriorates their retention properties, most likely due to the interfacial reaction between the tunneling oxide and the charge trapping layer. The O2 annealing also enhances the high electric field susceptibility of the stacks, which results in better endurance. The results strongly imply that the origin of electron and hole traps is different—the hole traps are most likely related to HfO2, while electron traps are related to Al2O3. These findings could serve as a useful guide for further optimization of MOHOS structures as memory cells in NVM. 相似文献

The article presents a numerical–experimental approach to the weldability and mechanical resistance of the joint of Alloy 59 (2.4605, nickel-chromium-molybdenum) and S355J2W (1.8965) structural steel manufactured by the MIG process with the use of micro-jet cooling. This research was considered because the standard MIG process does not guarantee the procurement of a mixed hard-rusting structural steel superalloy weld of a repeatable and acceptable quality. Welds made through the classic MIG process express cracks that result from their unfavorable metallographic microstructure, while the joint supported by micro-jet cooling does not reflect any cracks and has a high strength with good flexibility. This was achieved by the application of helium for cooling. The joining technology was also considered in the numerical stage, represented by calculations in situ. For this purpose, the fundamental solution method (FSM) for the simulation of heat transfer during the process of welding with micro-jet cooling was implemented according to the initial boundary value problem (IBVP). The problem was solved employing the method of combining the finite difference method, Picard iterations, approximation by the radial basis function, and the fundamental solution method so as to solve the IVBP. The proposed method was validated by the data and results obtained during in situ experiments. The numerical approach enabled us to obtain variations in the temperature distribution values in HAZ with its different dimensional variants, ranging between 600 °C and 1400 °C. 相似文献

Schools have been a point of attention during the pandemic, and their closure one of the mitigating measures taken. A better understanding of the dynamics of the transmission of SARS-CoV-2 in elementary education is essential to advise decisionmakers. We conducted an uncontrolled non-interventional prospective study in Belgian French-speaking schools to describe the role of attending asymptomatic children and school staff in the spread of COVID-19 and to estimate the transmission to others. Each participant from selected schools was tested for SARS-CoV-2 using a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) analysis on saliva sample, on a weekly basis, during six consecutive visits. In accordance with recommendations in force at the time, symptomatic individuals were excluded from school, but per the study protocol, being that participants were blinded to PCR results, asymptomatic participants were maintained at school. Among 11 selected schools, 932 pupils and 242 school staff were included between January and May 2021. Overall, 6449 saliva samples were collected, of which 44 came back positive. Most positive samples came from isolated cases. We observed that asymptomatic positive children remaining at school did not lead to increasing numbers of cases or clusters. However, we conducted our study during a period of low prevalence in Belgium. It would be interesting to conduct the same analysis during a high prevalence period. 相似文献
