[Purpose] The present study aimed to determine changes in muscle activity while moving on
a treadmill at various speeds. [Subjects] The activities of the left vastus lateralis,
vastus medialis, hip adductors, lateral head of gastrocnemius, medial head gastrocnemius,
soleus, and tibialis anterior of 10 healthy male university students were analyzed.
[Methods] University students walked, jogged, and ran for 10 minutes each in random order,
and then myogenic potentials were measured 10 minutes later for 30 seconds. The flexion
angle of the lower limb upon initial contact, mid stance, and toe off were measured.
[Results] The average walking, jogging, and running speeds were 3.6 ± 0.4, 6.7 ± 0.6, and
10.4 ± 1.3 km/h, respectively. The average electromyographic activities of the vastus
medial, tibialis anterior, medial head of gastrocnemius, and lateral head of gastrocnemius
significantly differed. All muscles were more active during jogging and running than
walking. Only the soleus was more active during running than walking, and the activities
of the hip adductors and vastus lateralis did not significantly differ. [Conclusion]
Velocity is faster and the angles of the lower limbs and ground reaction force (GRF) are
larger during running than walking. The vastus medialis and soleus worked more easily
according to the angle of the knee joint, whereas the tibialis anterior worked more easily
at faster velocities and the medial and lateral heads of the gastrocnemius worked more

We present the case of a patient with myelodysplastic syndrome who experienced leukemia transformation and subsequently underwent transplantation of unmanipulated peripheral blood stem cells from a haploidentical sibling mismatched at 3 HLA antigens, along with a reduced-intensity regimen (fludarabine, busulfan, and anti-T-lymphocyte globulin) and tacrolimus-containing graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) prophylaxis. The patient experienced graft rejection but successfully underwent a second transplantation from the same donor with a slightly intensified conditioning regimen. Although the patient developed life-threatening cytomegalovirus (CMV) pneumonia following the second transplantation, he recovered completely from the pneumonia with intensive supportive therapy. He is still in complete remission past day 1000 in the absence of GVHD. As far as we know, this report is the first to describe a successful second transplantation that was performed for graft rejection following HLA-haploidentical nonmyeloablative stem cell transplantation. Furthermore, we emphasize that patients should be carefully monitored for CMV infection when reduced-intensity conditioning is given repeatedly over a short period. 相似文献

Aim: Evidence is lacking about whether urinary stones are associated with the subsequent risk of cardiovascular diseases. Herein, we investigated the association between history of urinary stones and the risk of coronary heart disease (CHD) and stroke among middle-aged Japanese.Methods: This cohort study included 89,037 Japanese men and women (45–74 years) registered in the Japan Public Health Center-based prospective study. Cox proportional hazard models were used to calculate the hazard ratios (HRs) and their 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for incident CHD and stroke among Japanese adults with a self-reported history of urinary stones compared with those without it. The following covariates were included in the regression models: age, sex, area, body mass index, and histories of hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, smoking habit, alcohol intake, and physical activity.Results: In total, 1.31% of Japanese adults reported a positive history of urinary stones. Throughout a median follow-up period of 12 years, 1.16% of Japanese adults developed CHD, and 4.96% developed stroke. No associations were detected between history of urinary stones and the risk of CHD (HR 1.04; 95% CI: 0.64–1.67), stroke (HR 0.92; 95% CI: 0.71–1.20), or total CVD (HR 0.95; 95% CI: 0.75–1.19). Younger urinary stone formers (45–59 years) tended to have a higher, though statistically insignificant, risk of CHD than older urinary stone formers (60–74 years): [(HR 1.15; 95% CI: 0.61–2.15) versus (HR 0.83; 95% CI: 0.40–1.76)], respectively.Conclusion: The history of urinary stones was shown to be not associated with the risk of CVD among Japanese adults. 相似文献

Cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs) are thought to be major effectors involved in viral clearance during acute infections, including hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. A persistent HBV infection is characterized by a lack of or a weak CTL response to HBV, which may be reflective of tolerance to HBV. Efficient induction of HBV‐specific CTLs leads to the clearance of HBV in patients with a chronic HBV infection. Previously, we reported that α‐galactosylceramide (α‐GalCer), a specific natural killer T (NKT) cell agonist, enhanced the induction of HBV surface antigen (HBsAg)‐specific CTLs. In the present study, we found that inhibition of indoleamine 2,3‐dioxygenase (IDO) activity enhanced the induction of HBsAg‐specific CTLs after immunization with HBsAg and α‐GalCer. The administration of HBsAg and α‐GalCer increased the production of interleukin‐2 and interleukin‐12b, which are crucial for the induction of HBsAg‐specific CTLs. The production of these cytokines was more strongly enhanced in IDO knockout mice compared with wild‐type mice. In addition, α‐GalCer induced the production of IDO in CD11b+ cells, and these cells inhibited proliferation of HBsAg‐specific CTLs. There has been considerable research on the involvement of RhoA/Rho kinase signalling in smooth muscle contractions. However, only a few reports have addressed the specific role of Rac1, which is a member of the Rho GTPase superfamily. Therefore, this study investigated the role of Rac1‐related pathways in bronchial smooth muscle (BSM) contractions. Bronchial rings isolated from mice were suspended in an organ bath, and the isometric contractions of circular smooth muscles were monitored. The phosphorylation of myosin light chains (MLCs) was analysed by immunoblotting. The Rac1 inhibitor EHT1864 inhibited carbachol (CCh)‐induced BSM contractions, although high K+ depolarization‐induced BSM contractions were not significantly attenuated by EHT1864. Moreover, high K+‐ and phorbol 12,13‐dibutyrate (PDBu; PKC activator)‐induced contractions were not attenuated by Rac1 inhibition, whereas sodium fluoride (NaF)‐induced force development was inhibited by EHT1864. The gene and protein expression of Rac1 was increased in the BSM of a murine model with antigen‐induced airway hyper‐responsiveness (AHR). In addition, an increased force of the BSM contractions in AHR was suppressed by EHT1864 treatment, suggesting that the up‐regulation of Rac1 is involved in AHR. These findings suggest that an increase in Rac1‐mediated signalling is involved in the augmented contractions of BSMs in antigen‐induced AHR mice. 相似文献
