We report two cases of thyroid mucosa‐associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphoma with associated amyloid protein deposition. While other primary thyroid neoplasms sush as medullary carcinoma and plasmacytoma with associated amyloid protein are known to occur and have been previously described by fine‐needle aspiration cytology (FNAC), to our knowledge, the current cases are the first of thyroid MALT lymphoma with amyloid deposition to be detailed in the cytopathology literature. Case 1 was a 73‐year‐old female with chronic thyroiditis. FNAC suspected MALT lymphoma. The amyloid material was not noticed, nevertheless it existed. Case 2 was a 71‐year‐old female with a nodule of the thyroid. Malignant lymphoma and medullary carcinoma were suspected by FNAC. The possibility of medullary carcinoma was excluded by a measurement of serum calcitonin and carcinoembryonic antigen. After follow‐up for two years, the nodule was diagnosed as MALT lymphoma associated with plasma cell differentiation and amyloidosis by the fourth FNAC. When we encounter small round cell tumors associated with amyloid in thyroid FNAC, we should consider not only medullary carcinoma but also MALT lymphoma. Diagn. The efficiency of immunochromatography and commercial enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) kit (Denka Seiken Co. Ltd., Tokyo, Japan) were evaluated for rapid detection of norovirus (NoV) from stool specimens. A total of 503 stool specimens collected from infants and young children who suffered from acute gastroenteritis were tested for NoV by the NoV-immunochromatography kit, Denka ELISA kit, and by a monoplex RT-PCR method. The NoV-immunochromatography revealed 78.9% sensitivity, 96.4% specificity, and 92.4% efficiency with the monoplex RT-PCR method. The Denka ELISA kit had a sensitivity of 90.4%, specificity of 96.4%, and an efficiency level of 95%. The findings indicate that the newly developed NoV-immunochromatography kit provides the specificity equal to that of the Denka ELISA kit, even through the sensitivity of detection was lower. However, the advantage of the NoV-immunochromatography kit is less time consuming and simpler. The data show that both the Denka ELISA and the NoV-immunochromatography kits may be used as an alternative method for screening of NoV in stool samples.  相似文献

Adult bone marrow contains mesenchymal stem cells (bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells; BMSCs) which contribute to the generation of mesenchymal tissue such as bone, cartilage, muscle and adipose. However, using bone marrow as a source of stem cells has the limitation of a low cell number. An alternate source of adult stem cells that could be obtained in large quantities, under local anesthesia, with minimal discomfort would be advantageous. Human adipose tissue obtained by liposuction was processed to obtain a fibroblast-like population of cells or adipose tissue-derived stromal cells (ATSCs). In this study, we compared the osteogenic differentiation of ATSCs with that of BMSCs. Both cell types were cultured in atelocollagen honeycomb-shaped scaffolds with a membrane seal (ACHMS scaffold) for three-dimensional culturing in a specific osteogenic induction medium. Optimal osteogenic differentiation in both cell types, as determined by alkaline phosphatase cytochemistry, secretion of osteocalcin, mineral (calcium phosphate) deposition and scanning electron microscopy, was obtained with the same three-dimensional culture. Furthermore, osteoblastic lining in vivo was examined using ATSC-seeded or BMSC-seeded scaffolds in nude mice. The present results show that ATSCs have a similar ability to differentiate into osteoblasts to that of BMSCs.  相似文献

Subtelomeric deletions of 1q44 cause mental retardation, developmental delay and brain anomalies, including abnormalities of the corpus callosum (ACC) and microcephaly in most patients. We report the cases of six patients with 1q44 deletions; two patients with interstitial deletions of 1q44; and four patients with terminal deletions of 1q. One of the patients showed an unbalanced translocation between chromosome 5. All the deletion regions overlapped with previously reported critical regions for ACC, microcephaly and seizures, indicating the recurrent nature of the core phenotypic features of 1q44 deletions. The four patients with terminal deletions of 1q exhibited severe volume loss in the brain as compared with patients who harbored interstitial deletions of 1q44. This indicated that telomeric regions have a role in severe volume loss of the brain. In addition, two patients with terminal deletions of 1q43, beyond the critical region for 1q44 deletion syndrome exhibited delayed myelination. As the deletion regions identified in these patients extended toward centromere, we conclude that the genes responsible for delayed myelination may be located in the neighboring region of 1q43.  相似文献

In 2 infants with gastroenteritis associated with Norovirus (NoV), serum immunoglobulin (Ig) G, IgM, IgA, and fecal IgA antibody responses against NoV were examined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay using 11 different antigenic and genetic types of NoV virus-like particles expressed in insect cells. These two cases were putative primary single NoV infections, because antibodies against NoVs were not detected in acute-phase serums. In one of two cases, long-term excretion of virus RNA for 33 days was observed. Serum IgG responses demonstrated strong seroresponse to the homologous type, and weak seroresponse to the heterologous types within the genogroup. After more than 2 years, the IgG antibody titer remained high to the homologous type and low to the heterologous type within the genogroup. IgM and IgA were specific to the homologous type. IgM was short lived and the serum IgA antibody titer remained low to the homologous type for a long period. These results improve our understanding of the humoral immune response to NoV infection.  相似文献

A 47-year-old man presented with repeated headache and feverishness 3.5 years after undergoing ventriculoperitoneal shunt surgery for normal pressure hydrocephalus secondary to subarachnoid hemorrhage. Abdominal computed tomography revealed that the peritoneal catheter was encased by fibrous tissue and the distal end of the catheter had migrated into the stomach. The diagnosis was spontaneous gastric perforation by the ventriculoperitoneal shunt. The fibrous tissue was expected to seal the very small gastric perforation, so the catheter was successfully extracted through a scalp incision without abdominal surgical intervention.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: Many investigators have reported satisfactory outcome in anterior lumbar interbody fusion (ALIF) performed for lumbar disc herniation or "multiply operated back" (MOB), but without comparing preoperative and postoperative dural tube area and cauda equina adhesion in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). We conducted this study to determine these data in ALIF performed for lumbar disc herniation and MOB. METHODS: Thirty-two patients who underwent ALIF, involving 38 discs, were studied. In MRI obtained before and after surgery (interval 9-48 months, mean 19.2 months), cross-sectional areas of the lumbar dural tube were measured from axial T2-weighted images using a computer-linked digitizer. At 30 disc levels operated on, the cauda was identified in images; cauda equina adhesions were classified according to Matsui et al (grade I-III). Clinical improvement was scored. RESULTS: Bony union was observed in radiographs of all patients. Preoperative and postoperative cross-sectional areas of the lumbar dural tube were 1.32 +/- 0.4 and 1.87 +/- 0.5 cm, respectively, and expansion ratio was 1.43 +/- 0.4. Recovery did not correlate with expansion ratio. Positive correlation was noted between expansion ratio and disc height ratio. At 30 disc levels where cauda equina was identified, 22 represented grade I and 8 represented grade II. At three of the latter, prior surgery had been performed via a posterior approach. CONCLUSIONS: No significant difference was noted in occurrence of grade II adhesions between primary ALIF and ALIF performed for MOB. Dural tube expansion was accomplished even without exposure of the tube, and cauda equina adhesion was uncommon in primary ALIF.  相似文献

The HFE, H ferritin, TFR2, and ferroportin 1 genes of a Japanese patient diagnosed as having hemochromatosis were amplified by PCR and sequenced. A novel mutation in the ferroportin 1 was found in the patient. It was located in the noncoding region of the ferroportin 1; nucleotide 117 adenine was changed to guanine, 7 nucleotides downstream the iron responsive element (IRE) region. This mutation was not found in the patient's son or daughter, or in 50 healthy individuals. It was suggested that the mutation in the ferroportin 1 may be related to hemochromatosis of this patient.  相似文献

A new phenyldihydronaphthalene-type lignan, vitedoin A (1), a new phenylnaphthalene-type lignan alkaloid, vitedoamine A (2), and a new trinorlabdane-type diterpene, vitedoin B (3), were isolated from the seeds of Vitex negundo along with five known lignan derivatives (4-8). Their chemical structures were determined mainly on the basis of NMR and MS data. Compounds 1, 2, and 4-7 showed stronger antioxidative activity than alpha-tocopherol using the ferric thiocyanate method. Compounds 1, 2, and 4-7 showed higher radical-scavenging effect on the stable free radical, 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl, than L-cysteine.  相似文献
