The clinical, ultrasonographic, and histopathologic characteristics of an oncocytoma of the conjunctiva are described. A 49-year-old woman presented with a red-orange lesion adjacent to the caruncle in her left eye. A clinical examination including high-frequency ultrasound was performed prior to excisional biopsy of her tumor. High-frequency ultrasound demonstrated an epibulbar tumor with low internal reflectivity and a cystic component. There was no involvement of the underlying sclera. Multiple hypoechoic components of the tumor stroma were correlated to multiple cystic glandular structures on histopathologic evaluation. The excised tumor was diagnosed to be an oncocytoma. 相似文献

Zusammenfassung Unter den 32 Patienten, die in der Zeit zwischen 1966 und 1968 mit manifester Tetanuserkrankung zur stationären Behandlung kamen, waren 21 weder aktiv noch passiv immunisiert worden. Die übrigen 11 hatten teils Tetanol, teils heterologes Serum oder eine Kombination beider erhalten. Nach der stationären Aufnahme wurden alle aktiv immunisiert und mit heterologem oder homologem Serum behandelt. Bestimmungen des neutralisierenden Antitoxintiters zeigten bei vergleichbarer Dosierung die Überlegenheit des humanen Hyperimmunglobulins. Aus immunologischen Überlegungen wird bei manifester Erkrankung die Gabe von homologem Serum empfohlen.
Summary Amongst the 32 patients, who came to us for hospital treatment for manifest tetanus between 1966 and 1968, 21 were neither actively nor passively immunised. The remaining 11 had received either Tetanol or heterologous serum or a combination of the two. After admission to hospital, they were all actively immunised and treated with either heterologous or homologous serum. Determination of the neutralising antitoxin titres demonstrated the superiority of the human hyper-immunoglobulin using comparative dosage. As a result of immunological consideration, we would recommend administration of homologous serum in cases, where the disease is manifest.相似文献

Hemorrhagic enteritis virus (HEV) is an adenovirus that infects turkeys and causes immunosuppression and mortality. The virus used for the inactivated vaccine is extracted from spleens of infected turkeys, since its propagation in tissue cultures or embryonated eggs is unsuitable for mass production. The aim of this study was to develop a subunit vaccine based on a capsid protein of the virus. The knob protein, together with an adjacent part of the shaft domain pertaining to the fiber protein of HEV, was expressed in Escherichia coli and tested as a vaccine. Vaccination with this recombinant protein conferred protection against challenge in controlled and in floor-pen experiments. This finding suggests that the knob protein may be used as safe and efficient vaccine against hemorrhagic enteritis of turkeys. The possibility that the knob proteins of other adenoviruses may be protective and serve as vaccine is also discussed. 相似文献

Glycine applied in the bathing medium at concentrations exceeding 0.1 mol/l elicited high rates of spontaneous inhibitory postsynaptic currents (sIPSCs) in crayfish neuromuscular junctions. This effect of glycine was reversible within seconds. In several experiments on application of 0.5 mol/l glycine the rate of sIPSCs immediately increased to about 10 kHz and thereafter declined exponentially with time constants of between 10 and 20 s. This resulted in a release of about 140,000-200,000 inhibitory quanta per trial. When the readily releasable pool of transmitter had been so depleted by glycine, it was necessary to superfuse the preparation with normal solution for 5-10 min in order to be able to again evoke a high rate of sIPSCs. A similar effect of glycine on spontaneous release was also observed in some preparations which had been previously bathed in zero Ca2+ solution for up to 45 min. Addition of 25 mmol/l Mg2+ to the bathing fluid did not block the glycine evoked release of transmitter. However, in sodium-free superfusions the increase in the rate of sIPSCs induced by glycine was reduced. In the presence of 0.5 mol/l glycine no excitatory miniature currents (sEPSCs) were observed, in fact, glycine depressed excitatory synaptic transmission. In addition to the increasing the rate of sIPSCs, high concentrations of glycine evoked 'giant' sIPSCs (gsIPSCs). They were about 10-15 times larger than the normal sIPSCs and occurred at rates lower than 3 Hz, irrespective of whether the bathing medium contained sodium or not. However, in sodium-free superfusions the time constants of the decay of gsIPSCs were prolonged by a factor 2-3. These results suggest that glycine elicited sIPSCs and gsIPSCs by different mechanisms. Possible mechanisms which might explain the effects of glycine on release of inhibitory transmitter are discussed. 相似文献

The second order projections of the gustatory system in catfish were examined using both retrograde (HRP) and anterograde (degeneration and autoradiographic) hodological methods. Golgi-stained material was used to demonstrate the different cell types in the primary gustatory sensory area, the facial lobe. Efferents from the facial lobe gather into ascending and descending secondary gustatory tracts. The descending tract terminates largely in the medial funicular nucleus and the commissural nucleus of Cajal in the region of the obex. A small portion of the descending tract continues caudally to terminate in the dorsal horn of the spinal cord. The ascending secondary gustatory tract terminates mostly in the ipsilateral superior secondary gustatory nucleus in the isthmic region. A small portion of the ascending tract continues rostrally to terminate in the posterior thalamic nucleus and in the region of the nucleus lobo-bulbaris. Sparser contralateral projections are also seen in the posterior thalamus and isthmic gustatory regions. Three cell types can be discerned in the facial lobe: small, medium and large. The small cells are intrinsic neurons, the medium cells project to the isthmic gustatory nucleus, and the large cells send fibers to the other terminal areas described above, as summarized in figure 19. 相似文献

Differential distribution of hypocretin (orexin) and melanin-concentrating hormone in the goldfish brain 总被引:8,自引:0,他引:8
The orexigenic peptides hypocretin (orexin) and melanin-concentrating hormone (MCH) are involved in the control of food intake and in other homeostatic functions including sleep and arousal. In this article we study the distribution of these peptides in the brain of the goldfish (Carassius auratus), focusing on those regions particularly related to feeding, sleep, and arousal. Although the general distribution of these peptides in goldfish shows many similarities to those described previously in other species, we observed some noteworthy differences. As in other vertebrates, the peptidergic somata lie in the anterolateral hypothalamus. In goldfish, both hypocretin and MCH immunoreactive cell bodies project fibers to the ventral telencephalon, thalamus, and hypothalamus. At mesencephalic levels fibers reach the deep layers of the optic tectum and also course sparsely through the mesencephalic tegmentum. In contrast to the strong innervation of locus coeruleus and raphe in mammal, the MCH and hypocretin systems in goldfish barely innervate these aminergic populations related to the regulation of sleep and arousal. MCH, but not hypocretin, immunoreactive fibers terminate substantially in the sensory layer of the vagal gustatory lobe of goldfish, while both peptidergic systems distribute to the primary visceral sensory areas of the medulla and pons. The strong involvement of these peptidergic systems with the hypothalamus and general visceral nuclei, but not with locus coeruleus or raphe nuclei support the view that these peptides originally played a role in regulation of energy balance and evolved secondarily to influence sleep-wakefulness systems in amniote vertebrates. 相似文献
