Background: Covering peritoneal surfaces with soybean oil may decrease peritoneal adhesions by preventing peritoneal trauma. Method(s): Forty female albino Wistar rats were divided into four equal groups. In Group 1, soybean oil only (0.1 ml) was injected into the peritoneal cavity. In Group 2, an untreated adhesion model was generated. In Group 3, an adhesion model was generated, followed by covering the area with soybean oil (0.1 ml). In Group 4, the area was first covered with soybean oil (0.1 ml) followed by generation of an adhesion model. All rats were sacrificed on postoperative day 10, and adhesions were scored. Results: The mean macroscopic adhesion scores in Groups 1, 2, 3, and 4 were 0.0 ± 0.0, 2.90 ± 0.21, 1.90 ± 0.94, and 0.50 ± 0.71, respectively. The Group 4 score differed significantly from that of Group 2 (p <. 001), but was not different from that of Group 1 or 3 (p >. 05). Discussion: Soybean oil can effectively decrease adhesion formation if applied before peritoneal trauma.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the influence of different surface treatments (sandblasting, acid etching, and laser irradiation) on the shear bond strength of lithium disilicate-based core (IPS Empress 2) and feldspathic ceramics (VITA VM 9). One hundred ceramic discs were divided into two groups of 50 discs each for two ceramic systems: IPS Empress 2 (group I) and VITA VM 9 (group II). Each of the two groups was further divided into five surface treatment groups (ten each) as follows: group SB, sandblasting with alumina particles (50 μm); group HF, 5 % hydrofluoric acid etching; group L, Er:YAG laser irradiation (distance, 1 mm; 500 mJ; 20 Hz; 10 W; manually, noncontact R14 handpiece); group SB–L, sandblasting + Er:YAG laser; and group HF–L, 5 % hydrofluoric acid + Er:YAG laser. Luting cement (Panavia 2.0) was bonded to the ceramic specimens using Teflon tubes. After 24 h of water storage, a shear bond strength test was performed using a universal testing machine at a crosshead speed of 0.5 mm/min. The data were analyzed with a two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Tukey's honestly significant difference tests (α?=?0.05). The two-way ANOVA indicated that the shear bond strength was significantly affected by the surface treatment methods (p?<?0.05), but there was no significant interaction between the ceramic systems. Group SB–L had the highest mean values for each ceramic system. Sandblasting, followed by Er:YAG laser irradiation, enhanced the bond strength, indicating its potential use as an alternative method. The atomic force microscopic evaluation revealed that group SB had the most distinct sharp peaks among the groups.  相似文献

The aim of the study to compare outcomes of flexible ureterorenoscopy in patients with different body mass index (BMI) scores and to explore whether the BMI has an effect on outcomes of RIRS. Five hundred and two patients who underwent flexible URS in 3 centers between 2008 and 2012 for the management of single upper urinary tract calculi were retrospectively reviewed. Patients were categorized as normal weight BMI 18.5 to 24.99 kg/m2, overweight 25 to 29.99 kg/m2, obese 30 to 39.99 kg/m2 and morbid obese >40 kg/m2.The groups were assessed in terms of demographic parameters including age, gender, stone size, intraoperative and postoperative variables. The mean patient age was 41.3 ± 15.51 (18–81) years and with an average BMI 26.68 ± 5.2 kg/m2 (16.64–55.15 kg/m²). Of the patients, 43.2 % had normal weight (NW), 32.2 % were overweight (OW), 21.9 % were obese (O) and 2.5 % were morbidly obese (MO). Stone-free rates after single procedure in NW, OW, O, MO groups were 60.8, 61.7, 73.6, 61.5 %, respectively (p = 0.079). Overall targeted stone-free rates were also similar in four groups (88.9, 90.1, 93.6, 90.4 %, p = 0.586). There were no statistically significant differences in the frequency of complications and mean hospitalization time among the groups (p > 0.05). In conclusion, this study demonstrated that flexible URS is a valuable option for the treatment of kidney stone in both obese and non-obese patients. BMI did not influence the postoperative outcomes.  相似文献

The relationship between erectile dysfunction (ED) and chronic renal failure (CRF) has been reported in several studies. This study aimed to investigate whether the chronic use of sildenafil could enhance the erectile capacity in CRF-induced rats. In addition, we assessed the effect of that treatment on certain molecules, which have been suggested to play crucial roles in erectile physiology and CRF-related ED as well. Three groups of animals were utilized: (1) age-matched control rats, (2) CRF-induced rats, (3) CRF-induced rats treated with chronic administration of sildenafil (5 mg kg−1 p.o. for 6 weeks [treatment started after 6 weeks of CRF induction]). At 3 months, all animals underwent cavernosal nerve stimulation (CNS) to assess erectile function. Penile tissue advanced glycation end products (AGE''s)/5-hydroxymethyl-2-furaldehyde, malondialdehyde (MDA), cGMP (ELISA), inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and neuronal NOS (nNOS) (Western blot) analyses were performed in all rat groups. CRF-induced rats had a significant decrease in erectile function when compared to control rats (P < 0.05). The increase in both intracavernosal pressure (ICP) and area under the curve of CRF-induced rats treated with sildenafil (Group 3) was greater than CRF-induced rats (Group 2). Additionally, sildenafil treatment decreased AGE, MDA and iNOS levels, while it preserved nNOS and cGMP contents in CRF-induced penile tissue. Decreased AGE, MDA, iNOS and increased nNOS, cGMP levels at the sildenafil-treated group increased both ICP and Total ICP to CNS, which led to improve erectile function in CRF-induced rats. The results of the present study revealed the therapeutic effect of chronic sildenafil administration on erectile function in CRF-induced rats.  相似文献

Vascularized bone marrow transplant (VBMT) induces donor-specific chimerism in experimental models across the major histocompatibility barrier. An experimental model for immunotolerance studies should sustain a high antigenicity with low morbidity. Accordingly, we introduced an iliac bone osteomusculocutaneous (IBOMC) transplant model in rat. It consists of a large skin component and an abundant bone marrow cells (BMC) population. We tested this model with isograft transplantations between Lewis rats (RT1l) and with allograft transplantation between Lewis-Brown Norway (LBN RT1l + n) donors and Lewis (RT1l) recipients under low dose of cyclosporine A monotherapy. Immunologic responses were tested for donor cell engraftment and chimerism induction. All isografts survived indefinitely and allografts were viable at 200 days post-transplant under low dose of cyclosporine A. Microangiography of the graft revealed preservation of skin, muscle, and bone components. Histologic examination confirmed viability of all allograft components without signs of rejection. Long-term engraftment of donor-origin (RT1n) BMC was confirmed by donor-specific chimerism (1.2%) in peripheral blood and bone marrow (1.65%) compartments and by engraftment into lymphoid organs of recipients. The IBOMC transplant proved to be a reliable composite tissue allotransplantation (CTA) model. Moreover, because of its robust bone marrow component and large skin component, it is applicable to studies on immunologic responses in CTA.  相似文献

Cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) is a vector‐borne parasitic disease characterized by various skin lesions that can cause deformities when healed. Our aim in this study is to show the utility of parameters such as neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLR), thrombocyte/lymphocyte ratio (TLR), and mean thrombocyte volume (MTV) as auxiliary laboratory methods in CL patients. About 107 patients who were admitted to our dermatological and venereal diseases outpatient clinic between January 2018 and January 2019 and were diagnosed with CL by microscopic examination and 74 healthy individuals were included in the study. There were no significant differences between the patient and control group in terms of neutrophil counts, leukocyte counts, platelet counts, and NLR values (P values: .271, .053, .263, and .459, respectively). When the TLR and MTV values of patients with CL and those of the healthy controls were compared, it was found that TLR and MTV values were statistically higher in patients with CL (P values of .010 and .044, respectively). Based on these data, NLR was not considered to be a suitable parameter for demonstrating inflammation in CL patients, but TLR and MTV were held to be an appropriate parameter for demonstrating inflammation in CL patients. In addition, we think that the increase in MTV and TLR, can be used as an auxiliary laboratory test in the diagnosis of CL disease.  相似文献

Purpose

Over the past two decades, vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) has become an accepted and viable treatment modality for intractable epilepsy both in children and adults. Earlier studies have demonstrated short-term seizure outcomes, usually for up to 5 years; so far, none have reported an extended outcome in children. We aimed to assess long term seizure outcome in children with intractable epilepsy for more than 5 years.

Methods

We identified patients who had VNS implantation for treatment of intractable epilepsy from March 2000 to March 2015 at our Epilepsy Center and collected data including demographic, age at epilepsy onset and VNS implantation, duration of epilepsy, seizure type, number of antiepilepsy drugs (AEDs), and monthly seizure frequency before VNS implantation and at the last clinic visit. Phone surveys were conducted with patients without recent clinic follow-up.

Results

Fifty-six patients (aged 4–17 at the time of implant) are the subjects of the study. Seizure reduction of >50 % was achieved in 9.8 % (6th month), 24 % (2nd year), 46.4 % (3rd year), and 54 %(5th year), and overall 35 (62.5 %) of the 56 subjects had a greater than 50 % reduction in seizure frequency at the last follow-up. Eleven patients became seizure free. The results, once obtained, were maintained steadily or even improved over time without any loss of efficacy during the follow-up. The only parameter, significantly related with clinical response, was age at seizure onset. The most frequent adverse events were hoarseness, cough, sore throat, and anorexia, experienced by 13 patients. Two patients had local wound infections and lead to the removal of the stimulator. An improvement in alertness, attention, and psychomotor activity, independent of the efficacy of vagal nerve stimulation, was observed in 8 patients.

Conclusion

To our knowledge, this is the first pediatric study evaluating seizure outcome over more than 5 years of follow-up, and demonstrates a favorable seizure outcome of >50 % seizure frequency in 62.5 % of patients and seizure freedom in 11 patients. It is well tolerated over an extended period of time.
