Age-related changes in visual spatial biases in children, young adults, and older adults were studied with unilateral and bilateral stimulus conditions in fast-paced linguistic and non-linguistic attention tasks. Only rightward spatial biases were observed. The incidence of the biases changed as a function of age: in childhood and in old age the rightward spatial biases were more common than in young adulthood. The present rightward spatial biases were similar to those observed in the corresponding auditory spatial linguistic and non-linguistic attention tests (Takio, Koivisto, Laukka, & Hämäläinen, 2011) and in the dichotic listening forced-attention task (Takio et al., 2009). We suggest that the multimodal rightward spatial bias observed under intensive attentional load is related to a right hemispace preference and modulated by age-dependent changes in executive functions.  相似文献

We report the case of a 33-year-old pregnant woman. The third-trimester ultrasound scan during pregnancy revealed fetal bilateral ventricular dilatation, macrosomia and a transverse diameter of the cerebellum at the 30th centile. A brain MRI scan at 31 weeks of gestation led to a diagnosis of hypoplasia of the cerebellar vermis without hemisphere abnormalities and a non compressive expansion of the cisterna magna. The fetal karyotype was 46,XX. The pregnancy was terminated and array-CGH analysis of the fetus identified a 238 kb de novo deletion on chromosome Xp12, encompassing part of OPHN1 gene. Further studies revealed a completely skewed pattern of X inactivation. OPHN1 is involved in X-linked mental retardation (XLMR) with cerebellar hypoplasia and encodes a Rho-GTPase-activating protein called oligophrenin-1, which is produced throughout the developing mouse brain and in the hippocampus and Purkinje cells of the cerebellum in adult mice. Neuropathological examination of the female fetus revealed cerebellar hypoplasia and the heterotopia of Purkinje cells at multiple sites in the white matter of the cerebellum. This condition mostly affects male fetuses in humans. We report here the first case of a de novo partial deletion of OPHN1, with radiological and neuropathological examination, in a female fetus.  相似文献

PurposeIn orthodontic tooth movement, osteoclasts play a crucial role in bone resorption on the compression side of the alveolar bone. It has been reported that nitric oxide is involved in bone remodeling caused by mechanical loading, and we previously reported that NOC-18, a long-acting nitric oxide donor, augmented RANKL-induced osteoclast differentiation in mouse monocytic RAW264 cells as well as mouse bone marrow macrophages. In this study, we investigated whether NOC-18 facilitated experimental tooth movement in mice.Materials and methodsEight-week-old male ddY mice were used. Experimental tooth movement was induced by the insertion of an orthodontic elastic between the left maxillary first molar and second molar. Just after the insertion of the elastic, NOC-18 was intraperitoneally administered once, and mice were killed after 3 days. For the detection of osteoclasts, HE staining, TRAP staining, and immunostaining for cathepsin K were performed.ResultsAn intraperitoneal injection of NOC-18 significantly increased the distance of experimental tooth movement. Furthermore, the number and area of osteoclasts on the compression side of the alveolar bone surface was significantly higher in the NOC-18 group.ConclusionThese results suggested that systemic administration of NOC-18 might have some effect to facilitate experimental tooth movement in mice via the augmentation of osteoclast differentiation on the compression side of the alveolar bone.  相似文献

Wiskott–Aldrich syndrome (WAS) is a condition with variable expression, which causes persistent thrombocytopenia and, in its complete form, also causes small platelets and humoral immunodeficiency. A 14-year-old boy, diagnosed with WAS but never treated, presented with symptoms of heart and renal failure. His right buccal region was swollen and his right first molar showed a cyst-like image on dental X-ray films. The boy's symptoms were attributed to an infected cyst, greatly aggravated by WAS-related immunodeficiency. The boy was sedated and the affected tooth and cyst were enucleated. Invasive treatment was safely achieved by paying close attention to whole-body management.  相似文献

The association between diabetes and subclinical atherosclerosis is well established. The effect of non-diabetic glucose intolerance on early atherosclerosis is not as straightforward, and the data regarding sex-related differences in this matter are limited. Therefore, our aim was to investigate these associations in men and women separately. We studied 1,304 Finnish men and women over 45?years of age who participated in the Finnish Health 2000 Survey. Ultrasonically determined carotid artery intima-media thickness and elasticity were used as markers of early atherosclerosis. Glucose tolerance was categorized according to the American Diabetes Association criteria for diabetes mellitus. Age-adjusted means for carotid artery intima-media thickness and elasticity indices were significantly (P?<?0.05) associated with glucose tolerance status in both sexes. There was a trend of increasing early atherosclerosis with the worsening of glucose tolerance in men and women. These associations were weakened in both sexes after further adjustments for other cardiovascular risk factors. In women, but not in men, significant (P?<?0.05) associations between glucose tolerance status and carotid artery elasticity were seen even after these further adjustments. Diabetes and non-diabetic glucose intolerance are associated with increased early carotid atherosclerosis compared with normal glucose tolerance in both sexes. Our results suggest that women with glucose intolerance may be in greater risk than men.  相似文献
