Chlamydia psittaci was isolated from cloacal swab pools from ducks in processing plants, and from cloacal and conjunctival swab pools from ducks on farms, in a small proportion of the samples examined. These isolates were difficult to passage. This difficulty was partly overcome by the use of emetine as the cell growth inhibitor. The direct complement fixation (CF) test was modified for testing duck sera by using complement at the los dose of 1.5 units. By this method, positive titres were demonstrated in experimentally prepared duck antisera, and in some of the samples collected from breeding and fattening ducks.  相似文献

Human chorionic gonadotrophin (hCG) levels and thyroid function were monitored in 44 patients receiving chemotherapy for treatment of trophoblastic disease. We observed a strong correlation between hCG and thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) concentrations measured by radioimmunoassay, and this appears to be due to cross-reactivity between hCG and the anti-TSH antibody used. The concentration of thyroid hormones was little affected by the raised levels of TSH or hCG, except when the concentration of the latter rose to high levels, usually above 100,000 i.u./l. The possible mechanisms of thyroid homeostasis in trophoblastic disease are considered.  相似文献

The technique of microelectrophoresis was used in order to compare the actions of L-3,4-dihydroxyphenylalanine (DOPA) and noradrenaline on single neurones in the cerebral cortices of cats and rats. DOPA could both excite and depress cortical neurones. Cells excited by DOPA were also excited by noradrenaline and cells depressed by DOPA were also depressed by noradrenaline. In the case of both excitatory and depressant responses, DOPA appeared to be less potent than noradrenaline. Responses to DOPA and noradrenaline could be antagonized by phentolamine and propranolol. Responses to acetylcholine were not affected. Responses to acetylcholine, but not responses to DOPA, were antagonized by atropine. The results indicate that locally applied DOPA may mimic the actions of noradrenaline on cortical neurones. Possible mechanisms for these effects of DOPA are discussed.  相似文献

Summary The wild diastatic yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae NCYC 625 has been shown to be homozygous for the glucoamylase-specifying gene STA2. spoII-1-mapping has positioned STA2 on chromosome II. Expression of STA2 is suppressed in some but not all diploids capable of sporulation, and is also inhibited by unlinked nuclear suppressor genes (SGL) found in some S. cerevisiae tester strains. EMS-induced glucoamylase-negative mutants often contain STA2-suppressor mutations. Depending on the allelic status of GEP1, a nuclear gene which also appears able to antagonise SGL-mediated suppression, STA2 expression can be blocked in petite mutants.  相似文献

Long-term succinylcholine infusion during isoflurane anesthesia   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
The characteristics of the neuromuscular blockade produced by prolonged succinylcholine infusion were compared in 40 patients anesthetized with either nitrous-oxide-isoflurane (0.75-1.50% inspired) or nitrous-oxide-fentanyl. Neuromuscular transmission was monitored using train-of-four stimulation and the infusion rate was adjusted to keep the first twitch at 10-15% of its control value. Initially, all patients exhibited a depolarizing-type block, and the infusion rates were similar in the isoflurane (61 micrograms . kg-1 . min-1) and fentanyl (57 micrograms . kg-1 . min-1) groups. Tachyphylaxis developed in both groups and correlated well with the onset of non-depolarizing (phase II) block. Both occurred sooner and at a lower cumulative dose in the isoflurane groups. After 90 min, infusion rates were similar in both groups (isoflurane: 107 micrograms . kg-1 . min-1, fentanyl;: 93 micrograms. kg-1 . min-1). After the infusion was stopped, the recovery of the train-of-four ratio was inversely related to the dose and duration of exposure to succinylcholine, and was slower with nitrous-oxide-isoflurane anesthesia. After 10 min of recovery, patients receiving isoflurane exhibited train-of-four ratios of 0.5 or less after 8.5 mg/kg succinylcholine and 103 min. Corresponding figures for fentanyl patients were 13 mg/kg and 171 min. The block in all 13 patients (eight with isoflurane, five with fentanyl) who did not recover spontaneously was antagonized successfully with atropine and neostigmine. It was concluded that with succinylcholine infusion of 90 min or less, isoflurane accelerates the onset of tachyphylaxis and phase II neuromuscular block without affecting succinylcholine requirements. These results, with isoflurane, were similar to those reported previously with enflurane or halothane.  相似文献
