Myxoma is benign tumor of the heart. It is mostly located in the left atrium and revascularized by the left and right coronary artery in 30% to 40% of cases. Symptoms of these neovascularized cardiac myxomas are typically quite variable, from obstruction of mitral valve to coronary embolism resulting in acute myocardial infarction. In this case, left atrial myxoma that is revascularized by nodal branches of the right coronary artery presented as a sick sinus syndrome, which is rare in literature.  相似文献

ObjectiveGrowth differentiation factor-15 (GDF-15), the new member of transforming growth factor (TGF)-beta family, is released as a response of oxidative stress, inflammation and tissue injury. We aimed to determine GDF-15 levels in patients with Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) and the relation between GDF-15 and adverse perinatal outcomes.Materials and methods:Forty pregnant women with GDM (receiving diet and insulin therapy) and forty healthy pregnant women as control group participated in this current study. GDF- 15 levels were analyzed by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assess kit.ResultsThe median serum GDF-15 level was measured higher in patients with GDM, and it was statistically meaningful (p: 0.000). Logistic regression analysis indicated that with the increase of GDF-15 level, the risk of GDM diseases increases as well. (P: 0.001, OR = 1.009; 95% CI = 1.003–1.014). There were no differences between GDF-15 levels and perinatal outcomes.ConclusionWe concluded that higher GDF-15 levels are related to GDM in the third trimester. The optimal GDF-15 cut-off value was measured as 326 pg/ml for the diagnosis of GDM with 70% sensitivity and 60% specificity in our study. Further studies are needed to show the significance of GDF-15 as a biomarker for the disease.  相似文献

Hepatic adenomatosis is an uncommon benign neoplasm, with the presence of multiple adenomas (generally more than 4) within the liver. A 52-year-old woman presented with multiple (>10) solid liver lesions detected with abdominal ultrasonography and verified with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Subsequently, F-18 FDG PET/CT demonstrated increased uptake in these lesions. Histology revealed hepatic adenomatosis. F-18 FDG PET/CT cannot reliably differentiate hepatic adenomas from malignant processes on the basis of uptake.  相似文献

Asbestos-related cases admitted to Chest Diseases Clinic of Kahramanmaras Sutcu Imam University Medical Faculty generally came from Buyuktatlar, a town adjacent to the Afsin district of Kahramanmara? city. This led us to screen for lung pathologies due to exposure to environmental asbestos in the town of Buyuktatlar. Six hundred and eighty-five inhabitants older than 30 years living in the town were identified as the study group and 488 persons (71·2%) were accepted for evaluation. Then, chest X-rays of these cases were taken and bilateral pleural plaque, bilateral pleural thickening, reticular lung infiltrations, and costophrenic angle obliteration were evaluated as asbestos-related disorders (ARD). ARD were diagnosed in 56 (11·5%) of the 488 chest X-rays that were assessed and no differences were observed between genders. Twenty-five of the cases were investigated by high-resolution computed tomography. Twenty-four were confirmed as ARD. In addition, chrysotile fiber was found in two of four soil samples taken from the town.  相似文献

PurposeTo investigate the association of age-related macular degeneration (AMD) with plasma antiphospholipid antibody levels.MethodsThis prospective study included 19 patients diagnosed as having dry-type AMD, 23 patients with exudative-type AMD, and 25 control subjects. Venous blood samples of the participants were obtained. Anticardiolipin antibodies (aCL) isotypes IgG and IgM were measured by means of an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Lupus anticoagulant (LA) antibodies were measured by the dilute Russell viper venom time screen test.ResultsThe mean aCL IgG concentration in patients with exudative-type AMD was significantly higher than in patients with dry-type AMD and control subjects. The mean ± SE of aCL IgG levels in patients with exudative-type AMD and dry-type AMD and control subjects was 5.46 ± 1.26; 2.55 ± 0.78; and 0.32 ± 0.1, respectively. The mean aCL IgM levels and LA levels in the 3 groups were not statistically different.ConclusionsOur findings suggest that elevated levels of serum aCL, a risk factor for cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, may be associated with exudative-type AMD.  相似文献

Aim

To evaluate the association between respiratory tract Ureaplasma urealyticum (Uu) colonization and development of retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) requiring treatment.

Methods

The infants with birthweight (BW) ≤1250 g born in a third-level neonatal intensive care unit between March 2009 and May 2010 were prospectively identified. Nasopharyngeal swabs for Uu colonization were taken in postnatal first 3 days. Culture-positive patients were reevaluated on the twelfth day by nasopharyngeal swabs for Uu. The primary outcome was to define whether there was an association between respiratory tract Uu colonization and severe ROP requiring treatment. Independent sample''s t-test or Mann–Whitney U-test was used to compare continuous variables and Chi-square test or Fisher''s exact test for categorical variables. Multivariate (backward) logistic regression analysis was performed to simultaneously measure the influence of the independent variables with ROP as the dependent variable.

Results

A total of 25 (12.1%) infants developed severe ROP requiring treatment among 206 infants who underwent ROP screening. Mean BW and gestational age of total cohort were 1013±159 g and 27.9±1.6 weeks, respectively. Multivariate analysis demonstrated that BW (OR: 0.64 (95% Cl 0.47–0.88); P=0.006), duration of mechanical ventilation (OR: 1.17 (95% Cl 1.06–1.28); P=0.001), premature rupture of membrane >18 h (OR: 3.83 (95% Cl 1.2–12.2); P=0.02), and Uu positivity in both cultures (OR: 5.02 (95% Cl 1.8–13.9); P=0.002) were independent risk factors for the development of severe ROP requiring treatment.

Conclusions

Respiratory tract colonization with Uu was independently associated with severe ROP requiring treatment.  相似文献

Recent cytogenetical findings and novel molecular biology results of acute myeloid leukaemia have shed new lights of our understanding in the diagnosis and treatment of the disease. Acute myeloid leukaemia is not only represented by the wide variety of morphological and immunophenotypic diversity but also demonstrates cytogenetical and molecular biological heterogeneity of its own. It has an unfavorable prognosis, especially in the elderly. Overall survival of younger patients (<50-60 years) has increased in the past years due to high dose chemotherapy (daunorubicine, cytarabine). But in case of unfavorable prognostic factors (not only cytogenetical but also molecular biological characters of the disease), allogeneic stem cell transplantation is needed for successful overall outcome. Better understanding the biology of acute myeloid leukaemia could establish novel targeted therapies and help us eventually to cure the disease.  相似文献
