Fusarium is a filamentous fungus widely distributed in plants and in the soil. Most species are more common at tropical and subtropical areas. Besides being a common contaminant and a well-known plant pathogen, Fusarium sp may cause various infections in humans. However, it has not yet been reported as being the pathogen of urinary tract infection. A 67-year-old woman had extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy and percutaneous nephrolithotomy for renal stones 7 and 6 years ago, respectively. She had had fever, chillness, urinary urgency and frequency for 6 days. Routine testing of urine showed numerous leucocytes. She was admitted under the impression of urinary tract infection. On admission, many spindle-shaped structures were found in the urine smears. This shows that Fusarium was identified. Fusarium may be the pathogen of the urinary tract infection, particularly when urolithiasis is present. 相似文献

Using a rhythmic isometric force production paradigm, we investigated the after-effects of in-phase and antiphase bimanual performance on the unintended recruitment of the homologous muscles of the opposite limb during subsequent performance of tasks that were unimanual by design. Electromyograms obtained from the muscles of the opposite limb were analyzed in terms of their amplitude and the distribution of their phase relative to that of the intended movements. Preceding bimanual activity had distinct effects on the relative phase (mean and uniformity) of the structured electromyograms. These were particularly pronounced following performance of the in-phase pattern. These findings are discussed in terms of interhemispheric excitation and inhibition. 相似文献

Lead (Pb(2+)) exposure in development induces impairments of synaptic plasticity in the hippocampal dentate gyrus (DG) area of the anesthetized rats in vivo. The common chelating agents have many adverse effects and are incapable of alleviating lead-induced neurotoxicity. Recently, CQ, clioquinol (5-chloro-7-iodo-8-hydroxy-quinoline), which is a transition metal ion chelator and/or ionophore with low affinity for metal ions, has yielded some promising results in animal models and clinical trials related to dysfunctions of metal ions. In addition, CQ-associated side effects are believed to be overcome with vitamin B12 (VB12) supplementation. To determine whether CQ treatment could rescue impairments of synaptic plasticity induced by chronic Pb(2+) exposure, we investigated the input/output functions (I/Os), paired-pulse reactions (PPRs) and long-term potentiation (LTP) of different treatment groups in hippocampal DG area of the anesthetized rat in vivo by recording field potentials and measured hippocampal Pb(2+) concentrations of different treatment groups by PlasmaQuad 3 inductive coupled plasma mass spectroscopy. The results show: CQ alone does not rescue the lead-induced impairments of synaptic plasticity in hippocampal DG area of the anesthetized rats in vivo; VB12 alone partly rescues the lead-induced impairments of LTP; however the co-administration of CQ and VB12 totally rescues these impairments of synaptic plasticity and moreover, the effects of CQ and VB12 co-administration are specific to the lead-exposed animals. 相似文献

Proteolytic enzymes (EC 3.4) secreted by Trichoderma strains are receiving increasing attention because of their potential implication in the Trichoderma biocontrol abilities. We have used an expressed sequence tag (EST) approach to identify genes encoding extracellular peptidases
in T. harzianum CECT 2413 grown under several biocontrol-related conditions. Based on BlastX results and Gene Ontology annotation, a total
of 61 (among 3478) unique sequences (unisequences) were predicted to encode enzymes with peptidase activity, three corresponding
to secreted peptidases already known from this Trichoderma strain (PAPA, PRA1 and P6281). Further manual screening based on the functional identity and cellular location of the best
matches revealed ten unisequences encoding novel extracellular peptidases. We report the characterization of the corresponding
genes as well as a potential orthologous gene of the intracellular peptidase PAPB from T. asperellum. In each case, full-length coding sequences were obtained, and deduced proteins were compared at phylogenetic level with
peptidases from other organisms. T. harzianum CECT 2413 novel peptidases included six serine endopeptidases (EC 3.4.21) belonging to the families S1, S8 and S53, three
aspartic endopeptidases (EC 3.4.23) of the family A1, one metallo-endopeptidase (EC 3.4.24) of the family M35, and one aminopeptidase

PURPOSE: The short-term safety and efficacy of zoledronic acid for the treatment of skeletal metastasis was evaluated in patients with hormone-refractory prostate cancer. PATIENTS AND METHODS: A total of 19 hormone-refractory prostate cancer patients with bone metastases were enrolled. All patients received up to six infusions of zoledronic acid (4 mg, given intravenously over 15 minutes, every 3-4 weeks). Safety was assessed by monitoring adverse events and serum creatinine levels. Efficacy was assessed by monitoring skeletal-related events, brief pain inventory score, quality of life score, type of pain medication, and analgesic score. Mean age of patients was 67.3 years (46-86 years), mean time from diagnosis of bone metastases was 27.6 months (0-117 months), and mean time from diagnosis of hormone-refractory disease was 7.5 months (0-26 months). RESULTS: There was no clinically significant change in serum creatinine levels. Eleven adverse events (musculoskeletal disorders and systemic disorders) in 8 patients were classed as having a possible relationship to study drug. Fifteen patients completed six courses of zoledronic acid infusion. There were no significant changes in the brief pain inventory composite scores, quality of life questionnaire scores or analgesic score. No new skeletal-related events developed during the treatment period. CONCLUSION: Zoledronic acid administered in this study as a 15-minute infusion demonstrated an acceptable and well-known safety profile in patients with refractory prostate cancer with bone metastases. However, prospective placebo- controlled clinical trials are required to elucidate the efficacy of zoledronic acid. 相似文献

PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to demonstrate OK- 432 sclerotherapy efficacy for treatment of simple renal cysts. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Twenty patients with 25 symptomatic or large simple cysts were treated by ultrasonography (US)-guided percutaneous aspiration and injection of OK-432 (8 men and 12 women, mean age 63.6 years, SD 9.5). Six patients presented with flank pain, 14 presented with renal mass; renal cyst location was right, left, or bilateral sided in 9, 8, and 8 kidneys, respectively. Patients were evaluated by clinical assessment, US, or CT scan 3 months following the procedure. Complete and partial success was defined as symptom resolution with either total cyst ablation or greater than 70% reduction, respectively. Failure was defined as 30% of cyst size recurrence and/or persistent symptoms. RESULTS: Average reduction was 93.0%. Complete and partial resolution occurred in 11 (44.0%) and 13 (52.0%) cysts, respectively. One case was defined as failure, with a 64.2% size reduction from 10.9cm to 3.9cm (volume reduction rate 95.4%). Renal pain improved in all patients, regardless of complete or partial resolution. Minor complications occurred in 3 patients, 2 developed leukocytosis and 1 had mild fever (< 38.5 degrees C) following aspiration and sclerotherapy. Successful treatment was achieved with conservative measures and NSAID therapy. CONCLUSION: Percutaneous treatment of simple renal cysts with OK-432 sclerotherapy was found to be a safe, effective and minimally invasive procedure. 相似文献

IRAK family proteins play critical roles in regulating innate immunity. There are three differentially spliced variants of IRAK1, namely 1, 1b, and 1c. We and others have previously identified that the full length IRAK1 underwent covalent modifications such as phosphorylation and ubiquitination upon lipopolysaccharide challenge. In this report, we observed that IRAK1 could also undergo sumoylation which was responsible for its translocation into the nucleus. In contrast, IRAK1c remained stable and did not undergo modification upon various challenges. Furthermore, we showed that IRAK1c solely localized in the cytoplasm. IRAK1 was absent and IRAK1c was the primary form in human brains. The absence of full length IRAK1 and presence of IRAK1c may keep brain tissue in a resting non-inflammatory state. Intriguingly, the full length IRAK1 form was consistently detected in brain tissues obtained from aged humans, suggesting that differential splicing of IRAK1 may correlate with the aging process. 相似文献

Clinical and experimental evidence support a relationship between susceptibility to chronic pain and a subjacent depression. Nevertheless, it's not clear if the currently available clinical evaluation instruments for depression allow for linking both disorders. Thus, we evaluated a Zung's autoscale for depression and its different categories: affective, physiological, motor and psychological, as possible predictors of sensorial and autonomic alterations and vulnerability to clinical chronic pain. In 32 healthy controls and 11 subjects with minor depression and free of treatment, ischemic pain was first induced by applying a tourniquet on the dominant arm, and then followed by paresthesias during the reperfusion of arm as the tourniquet is released. Ischemic muscular pain, post-ischemic paresthesias and associated cardiovascular responses were recorded throughout the experimental procedure. The affective category's score was correlated linearly in individual form with the greatest number of variables and it was adjusted to a model of multiple regressions that almost explained the variance in 100% with a contribution of the sensorial and autonomic variables of a 70% and 30%, respectively. In addition, the affective category was 50% greater in subjects with persistent clinical pain. The Zung's index and the other categories had a smaller number of individual linear correlations and models of multiple correlations that only explained between 30-70% of the variance, with a more predominant contribution of the autonomic variables (20-50%), especially in the psychological category. This suggests that the affective category predicts cutaneous-muscular sensorial alterations with greater effectiveness than the Zung's total index. 相似文献
