Immunological parallels in the use of ultraviolet irradiation of autoblood in patients with suppurative diseases of soft tissue

Ultraviolet irradiation of autoblood in patients with suppurative diseases of soft tissues increased the titer of specific antibacterial antibodies and the number of antibody-producing cells (APC), which was the most expressed in cases when the erythrocytes and leukocytes were exposed separately. Study of the count of APC during UV exposure showed it to increase 6-8 h after the procedure.     

The detection of early disorders of the heart pumping function in patients with ischemic heart disease by using stress Doppler echocardiography

AIM: To determine potential of loading Doppler echocardiography (DECG) in detection early, subclinical dysfunction of left ventricular pump capacity in patients with ischemic heart disease. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Systolic and diastolic functions of the left ventricle (LV) before and during transesophageal electrocardiostimulation (TEECS) were assessed in 65 patients (55 males and 10 females, mean age 47 +/- 1.3 years) with effort angina functional class I, II and III and 25 control patients. RESULTS: Initial LV systolic function did not differ from control values. In the course of TEECS, LV systolic function declined in accordance with severity of angina and stimulation frequency. Initial LV diastolic function was reduced only in patients with angina class II and III. These changes were more pronounced in the course of TEECS. CONCLUSION: Stress Doppler echocardiography is a reliable tool in detection of early, preclinical impairment of cardiac pump function in patients with ischemic heart disease.     

State of cardiopulmonary hemodynamics in patients with mucoviscidosis according to Doppler echocardiography

AIM: Doppler echocardiography (DEC) assessment of cardiopulmonary hemodynamics in patients with mixed and pulmonary forms of mucoviscidosis (MV). MATERIALS AND METHODS: 44 MV patients were divided into 4 groups depending on the presence or absence of echocardiographic and DEC data on right ventricular failure (RVF) or pulmonary hypertension. RESULTS: In MV patients, diastolic dysfunctions of the right heart may be preclinical and often precede systolic disorders. Development of RVF in some MV patients proceeds with distinct decline in myocardial contractility without stages of myocardial hypertrophy and pulmonary hypertension. CONCLUSION: Right atrium is able to certain extent compensate RVF in MV due to enhancement of its contractility.     

Characteristics of secondary immunodeficiency in patients with neurocirculatory dystonia

AIM: Investigation of clinical-laboratory parameters of secondary immunodeficiency (SID) in patients with neurocirculatory dystonia (NSD). MATERIALS AND METHODS: Vegetative and immunological statuses were assessed in 104 males aged 30 to 57 years with NSD exposed to 0.01-0.1 Gy radiation after the Chernobyl accident. RESULTS: The patients were diagnosed to have SID the types and forms of which differed with NSD type. Symptoms of SID were evident in 29, 18, 13 and 83% of patients with mixed, hypotonic, hypertonic NSD, NSD without somatic disorders, respectively. CONCLUSION: As 85% of the examinees had SID, it is necessary to treat NSD with immunomodulation adjusted to each NSD type.     

Clinico-microbiological assessment of therapeutic antifungal drugs therapeutic activity in patients with atopic dermatitis sensitized to yeast fungi

AIM: To study of therapeutic activity of local (natamycine) and systemic (fluconasol) antifungal drugs in patients with atopic dermatitis (AD) with mycogenic sensitization and candida carriage. MATERIALS AND METHODS: 29 patients with severe AD and diagnosed contamination of the skin lesions with yeast fungi have received antifungal treatment with fungicidal drugs in low-dose long-term course. RESULTS: The drugs were effective in 83% of patients: poor effect was in 28%, moderate--in 21% and good--in 34% of cases. 5 (17%) patients did not respond. Mild, moderate and severe AD responded in 87, 36 and 60% of patients, respectively. The highest response was registered in patients without sensitization to yeast fungi (78%) or low sensitization (83%). In high sensitization the effect occurred in 57% of the cases. CONCLUSION: The authors have developed indications for treatment with antifungal drugs in AD patients with mycogenic sensitization.     

Examining fibrotic process in lung during treatment of chronic murine tuberculosis with lysosomotropic drug isonaizid

Light and ultrastructural morphometries were used to evaluate the effects of dextran-conjugated isoniazid (MW 30-40 kDa) on the morphology of chronic pulmonary tuberculous inflammation induced by BCG vaccine in mice. The revealed antifibrotic effect of the conjugated drug is accompanied by much less damage to the alveolar macrophageal ultrastructures (the mitochondrial apparatus in particular) than that of free isoniazid. It is concluded that the lysosomotropic properties imparted to isoniazid basically change its effect on fibrogenesis and are essential in the prevention of antiinflammatory pneumoscleroses.     

The effect of compounds with antioxidant properties on thrombocyte functional activity

The effect of antioxidant compounds ionol and mexidol and the new phenol derivative N9-imidazo-(1,2 alpha)-benzymidazol (PY-185) on the functional activity of blood platelets was studied. All the compounds under study effectively inhibited blood platelet aggregation both in vitro and in administration into rats, a result of which the blood thrombogenic potential reduced.     

The effect of contrast agents on latex phagocytosis by mouse neutrophils

The authors studied the effect of radiopaque agents (ROA):triombrast, omnipak, and ultravist and that of magnetoresonant contrast agents: omniscan and magnevist in concentration ranges (10(-4)-10(-2) M) on the phagocytizing activity of mouse neutrophils. All contrast agents inhibitors absorption of latex fragments by the neutrophils. A strong correlation was revealed between the osmotic activity of the radiopaque agents under study and the degree of suppression of neutrophil phagocytizing activity.     

The effect of different anxiolytics on the anxiety state occurring in rats after stopping the electrical stimulation of the dorsal hippocampus

The work shows growing anxiety of rats after electrical stimulation of the hippocampus during a conflict and according to the findings of multimetric testing. Various anxiolytics (diazepam, melatonin, and propranolol) completely relieved the symptoms of hippocampal hyperactivity.
