Studies have shown that students and the general population have little knowledge about nursing schools and the nursing profession. This study investigates the extent to which a sample of the population of Brazil is aware of the existence of nursing schools, and how they have obtained this information. Data were collected by telephone interviews. The sample consisted of 326 subjects whose telephone numbers were taken from the telephone book. Analysis showed that 73% of the subjects were aware of the existence of two nursing schools in the city; however, 65.03% did not know the names of these schools. Direct communication with friends and family, as well as indirect communication by television and advertising, were the sources of information mentioned by those questioned.  相似文献

Altered dimerization of metabotropic glutamate receptor 3 in schizophrenia.   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
BACKGROUND: Metabotropic glutamate receptors (mGlus) may be involved in the pathophysiology of schizophrenia. Group II mGlus (mGlu2 and mGlu3) have attracted considerable interest since the development of potent specific agonists that exhibit atypical antipsychotic-like activity and reports of a genetic association between the mGlu3 gene and schizophrenia. METHODS: In this postmortem study, mGlu3 protein levels in Brodmann area 10 of prefrontal cortex from schizophrenic (n = 20) and control (n = 35) subjects were analyzed by western immunoblotting using a novel specific mGlu3 antibody and an antibody for the vesicular glutamate transporter 1 (VGluT1). RESULTS: We report a significant decrease in the dimeric/oligomeric forms of mGlu3 in schizophrenic patients compared with control subjects, whereas total mGlu3 and VGluT1 levels were not altered significantly. CONCLUSIONS: This is the first experimental evidence that mGlu3 receptor levels are altered in schizophrenia and supports the hypothesis that neurotransmission involving this particular excitatory amino acid receptor is impaired in schizophrenia.  相似文献

We report a case of leishmaniasis localized to the upper lip in a 77-year-old Italian man. The disease was characterized by a severe swelling which involved the right side of the upper lip. The swelling was slightly erythematous with crusts and scaling. Consistency was parenchymatous-hard. The lesion was asymptomatic. Histopathologic examination showed an inflammatory infiltrate consisting of lymphocytes, histiocytes, and plasma cells. Several Leishmania spp. amastigotes were observed in the cytoplasm of macrophages. Cultural examination on Novy-MacNeal-Nicolle medium was positive for Leishmania spp. Polymerase chain reaction was positive for Leishmania infantum. The patient was treated with i.m. N-methylglucamine antimonate, with complete remission in approximately 6 weeks. During follow-up of 9 months, no relapses were observed.  相似文献

The effects of linoleic acid, linoleic acid anilide, and arachidonic acid on the expression of CD11b/CD18, CD11c/CD18 integrins and l-selectin on human neutrophils were studied by flow cytometry in a whole blood assay. None of these compounds had any effect on the basal expression of CD11b, CD11c, or l-selectin in the concentration range of 20–100 μM. However, linoleic acid at a concentration of 1000 μM slightly up-regulated CD11b and CD11c by a factor of 2.1 and 1.7, respectively. Linoleic acid, linoleic acid anilide, and arachidonic acid did not affect the formyl-methionyl-leucyl-phenylalanine induced up-regulation of CD11b or CD11c. However, linoleic acid and linoleic acid anilide slightly inhibited the phorbol myristate acetate (PMA)-induced expression of CD11b, which was decreased by 27 and 21% at concentrations of 100 and 1000 μM, respectively. Likewise, arachidonic acid at 40 μM inhibited the PMA-induced expression of CD11b by 19%. Our results suggest that linoleic acid, linoleic acid anilide, and arachidonic acid do not dramatically affect the expression of leukocyte adhesion molecules in a whole blood assay. The frequencies of nine discrete cranial traits are contrasted among 10 skeletal series of central Italy to assess the patterning of biological affinity or divergence. In this study various statistical applications were used: Mean Measure of Divergence (MMD), which was elaborated using the WPGMA cluster analysis, neighbor-joining method and principal coordinate analysis. The results show two main groups divided by the Apennines, which probably were a geographic barrier to biological exchange during the Italian Iron Age. This fact induced endogamous phenomena in the populations on the two sides of Italy (Adriatic and Tyrrenian) and probably increased the familial segregation of traits. The group on the western side has a further division between samples of the central coast and those of the southern coast. The latter samples seem to be more closely connected to Sardinian peoples, and this indicates gene flow and cultural contacts, which were not hindered by the sea. This segregation appears to have receded by Roman times.  相似文献

Amphetamine (AMPH) is an indirect sympathomimetic compound classified as a substrate-type releaser that distinguishes it from other stimulants that act as uptake 1 blockers, such as cocaine (COC). In mammals, AMPH elicits central stimulation, hypermotility, anorexia, analgesia and analeptic activity, mainly through the increase of extracellular brain dopamine (DA). The inversion of vesicular transporters and/or intravesicular alkalinization is assumed to have a role in AMPH-induced exocytosis. However, the action mechanism of this compound has not yet been completely clarified. Recent evidence on the action of AMPHs indicates potassium channel-blocking properties in peripheral tissues. We investigated the possible involvement of a Shaker-like Kv1.1 channel subtype in the central effects of AMPH, using an antisense oligodeoxyribonucleotide (aODN) that specifically and reversibly inhibits the expression of these channels in the brain. The effect of aODN pretreatments was studied by evaluating the modification of behavioral effects induced in mice through the intracerebroventricular administration of AMPH, COC, or other compounds. The aODN in mice almost completely blocked the stimulatory effects of AMPH and other releasers but was ineffective in reducing the central activity of COC. In aODN-pretreated rats a strong reduction of the AMPH, but not of the COC-stimulated DA efflux from nucleus accumbens was observed. Our results suggest that the stimulant effects of AMPH and chemically related compounds, but not COC, require the presence of functionally active Kv1.1 channels in the brain.  相似文献
