The tomato is one of the most consumed agri-food products in Lebanon. Several fungal pathogens, including Alternaria species, can infect tomato plants during the whole growing cycle. Alternaria infections cause severe production and economic losses in field and during storage. In addition, Alternaria species represent a serious toxicological risk since they are able to produce a wide range of mycotoxins, associated with different toxic activities on human and animal health. Several Alternaria species were detected on tomatoes, among which the most important are A. solani, A. alternata, and A. arborescens. A set of 49 Alternaria strains isolated from leaves and stems of diseased tomato plants were characterised by using a polyphasic approach. All strains were included in the recently defined phylogenetic Alternaria section and grouped in three well-separated sub-clades, namely A. alternata (24 out of 49), A. arborescens (12 out of 49), and A. mali morpho-species (12 out of 49). One strain showed high genetic similarity with an A. limoniasperae reference strain. Chemical analyses showed that most of the Alternaria strains, cultured on rice, were able to produce alternariol (AOH), alternariol methyl ether (AME), altenuene (ALT) and tenuazonic acid (TA), with values up to 5634, 16,006, 5156, and 4507 mg kg−1, respectively. In addition, 66% of the strains were able to co-produce simultaneously the four mycotoxins investigated. The pathogenicity test carried out on 10 Alternaria strains, representative of phylogenetic sub-clades, revealed that they were all pathogenic on tomato fruits. No significant difference among strains was observed, although A. alternata and A. arborescens strains were slightly more aggressive than A. mali morpho-species strains. This paper reports new insights on mycotoxin profiles, genetic variability, and pathogenicity of Alternaria species on tomatoes.  相似文献

The aim of this 188‐participant study (65% female; mean age = 40.31) was to examine whether burnout and depression are associated with similar interpretation biases in the processing of emotional information. Burnout symptoms were assessed with the Maslach Burnout Inventory‐General Survey and depressive symptoms with the 9‐item depression module of the Patient Health Questionnaire. Interpretation bias toward emotional information was examined using an amended version of the Word‐Sentence Association Paradigm (WSAP). In the WSAP, participants are asked to decide whether emotionally‐valenced words are related to ambiguous sentences. Burnout and depression were each associated with a higher endorsement of negative interpretations and a higher ratio of negative interpretations to positive interpretations. Negative word endorsement and positive word endorsement interacted in such a way that negative word endorsement was predictive of burnout and depression only when positive word endorsement levels were relatively low. Our findings suggest that burnout and depression are associated with similar alterations in the interpretation of ambiguous information. This study supports the view that burned out individuals perceive the world with “depressive glasses.” Cognitive bias modification techniques employed in the treatment of depressive conditions may constitute relevant therapeutic options for “burned out” individuals.  相似文献

Retroperitoneal lymph node dissection (RPLND) is an important component of the multimodal treatment which cures most patients diagnosed with testicular germ cell tumors. Considering the high cure rates achieved, research focus in recent years has been directed toward improving quality of life and decreasing long-term treatment related sequelae. Consequently, the role of RPLND has evolved over the past 3 decades in both low-stage and advanced testicular cancer.The use of RPLND in clinically stage I and low volume stage II disease may offer the advantages of treating retroperitoneal teratoma which is present in 15% to 20% of patients, avoiding chemotherapy and reducing the need for frequent imaging during follow-up. Similarly, ongoing studies are evaluating the safety and effectiveness of RPLND for the treatment of early stage seminoma to avoid the long-term effects of chemotherapy and radiotherapy. RPLND is traditionally used for the treatment of residual masses >1 cm after completion of chemotherapy. Its role in subcentimeter residual masses remains somewhat controversial given the fact that 25% to 30% of these patients are found to harbor either teratoma or viable nonteratomatous germ cell tumors. The presence of teratoma increases the probability of teratoma in metastatic sites.Modified unilateral templates were developed based on early mapping studies with the aim of preserving antegrade ejaculation. Recent data suggests initial mapping studies underestimated the risk of contralateral retroperitoneal metastases which may reach 32%. Furthermore, antegrade ejaculation may be preserved in >95% of patients undergoing bilateral nerve sparing primary RPLND and >80% undergoing nerve-sparing PC-RPLND, which, in our view is the more prudent oncologic approach.Recently, multiple series have demonstrated the safety and short-term efficacy of minimally invasive RPLND; however, larger studies with prolonged follow-up are required to validate the long-term oncologic efficacy of newer techniques.  相似文献

Aim. To determine the potential clinical impact of OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) during primary percutaneous coronary intervention in patients presenting with ACS (Acute Coronary Syndrome). Methods and Results. FORMIDABLE is a multicentre retrospective registry enrolling all patients presenting with ACS and treated with an OCT‐guided approach, while the USZ registry enrolled patients treated with a standard angiography guided approach. Multivariate adjustment was performed via a propensity score matching. The number stents useds was the primary outcome, while the incidence of MACE (a composite of death, myocardial infarction, target vessel revascularization, and stent thrombosis) was the secondary endpoint. A total of 285 patients OCT‐guided and 1,547 angiography guided patients were enrolled, resulting in 270 for each cohort after propensity score with matching. Two stents were used in 12% versus 34%; 3 stents in 8% versus 38% of the patients (P < 0.001). After a follow up of 700 days (450–890), there was no difference in myocardial infarction (6% vs. 6%, P = 0.86), while MACE (11% vs. 16%, P = 0.06), target vessel revascularization (2% vs. 4%, P = 0.15) and stent thrombosis rates (0% vs. 2.7%, P = 0.26) were numerically lower for the OCT‐guided cohort but none of these endpoints did reach statistical significance. Conclusions. An OCT‐guided approach reduced the number of stents used, number of patients treated with more than one stent, while there was no statistically significant difference in clinical endpoints while most of them were numerically lower, including stent thrombosis rates. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To determine whether the adjunctive administration of aminophylline and magnesium sulfate to mothers at risk for preterm birth can reduce the rate of intraventricular hemorrhage in neonates born at less than 30 weeks of gestation. STUDY DESIGN: A prospective study was conducted to determine whether the rate of intraventricular hemorrhage was different in patients at risk for preterm delivery treated with ritodrine, magnesium sulfate, aminophylline, and corticosteroids (group A) versus patients treated with ritodrine and corticosteroids (group B). During the study period (January 1996 to December 2001), 125 patients enrolled in the study. Treatment was assigned by alternative allocation, and the study was designed to compare the rate of intraventricular hemorrhage in neonates born before the 30th week of gestation (primary outcome), 78 newborns in group A and 68 in group B. The proportion of neonates with intraventricular hemorrhage was calculated, and data were analyzed with Student t test, chi 2 , and logistic regression analysis. RESULTS: The frequency of severe respiratory distress syndrome needing surfactant replacement and high-pressure positive ventilation, patent ductus arteriosus, and retinopathy of prematurity was not different between the 2 groups. However, the rate of intraventricular hemorrhage was lower in neonates born before 30 weeks whose mothers received adjunctive aminophylline and magnesium sulphate (group A) than in the group that did not receive these 2 agents (group B). The overall frequency of intraventricular hemorrhage was 5.1% (4/78) versus 20.6% (14/68) ( P < .001), and the frequency of intraventricular hemorrhage grade 3-4 was 1.3% (1/78) versus 10.3 % (7/68; P < .001), respectively. CONCLUSION: Adjunctive maternal administration of aminophylline and magnesium sulfate was associated with a significant reduction in the rate of intraventricular hemorrhage in neonates born before 30 completed weeks.  相似文献

We developed a combined methodological approach to enrich and to proliferate in vitro fetal CD34+ stem progenitor cells. Using a magnetic cell-sorting technique, CD34+ cells from pregnant women at the early-second trimester were isolated and enriched and compared to those isolated from blood of nonpregnant women. The number and frequency of CD34+ cells were significantly higher (p < 0.001) in the pregnant women. Unenriched peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) and enriched CD34+ cells were cultured in a methylcellulose system to evaluate the cloning potential of progenitor cells. After culture, the numbers of burst-forming units erythroid/colony-forming units erythroid (BFU-E/CFU-E) and colony-forming units granulocyte-macrophage (CFU-GM) colonies were increased by 33 and 16 times, respectively. Finally, to distinguish between fetal and maternal cells, four cases of cultured cells were hybridized with specific probes for X and Y chromosomes and two cases with a specific probe for chromosome 21. In normal pregnancies, we identified a high number of male fetal cells and an elevated fetal/maternal ratio. When we analyzed blood samples from pregnancies with trisomic fetuses, we scored a high ratio of trisomic cells respect to maternal cells that was significantly different from the ratio of pregnancies with normal fetuses. Our results demonstrate fetal progenitor cells may be cultured and detected successfully with an appropriate combined methodological approach, which may significantly increase the feasibility of noninvasive prenatal diagnosis.  相似文献
