Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a devastating worldwide pandemic infection caused by a severe acute respiratory syndrome namely coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) that is associated with a high spreading and mortality rate. On the date this review was written, SARS-CoV-2 infected about 96 million people and killed about 2 million people. Several arguments disclosed the high mortality of COVID-19 due to acute respiratory distress syndrome or change in the amount of angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) receptor expression or cytokine storm strength production. In a similar pattern, hepatic impairment patients co-infected with SARS-CoV-2 exhibited overexpression of ACE2 receptors and cytokine storm overwhelming, which worsens the hepatic impairment and increases the mortality rate. In this review, the impact of SARS-CoV-2 on hepatic impairment conditions we overviewed. Besides, we focused on the recent studies that indicated cytokine storm as well as ACE2 as the main factors for high COVID-19 spreading and mortality while hinting at the potential therapeutic strategies. 相似文献

Recent studies have shown that drug‐induced spatial alteration patterns in resting state functional activity as measured using magnetic resonance imaging (rsfMRI) are associated with the distribution of specific receptor systems targeted by respective compounds. Based on this approach, we introduce a toolbox (JuSpace) allowing for cross‐modal correlation of MRI‐based measures with nuclear imaging derived estimates covering various neurotransmitter systems including dopaminergic, serotonergic, noradrenergic, and GABAergic (gamma‐aminobutric acid) neurotransmission. We apply JuSpace to two datasets covering Parkinson''s disease patients (PD) and risperidone‐induced changes in rsfMRI and cerebral blood flow (CBF). Consistently with the predominant neurodegeneration of dopaminergic and serotonergic system in PD, we find significant spatial associations between rsfMRI activity alterations in PD and dopaminergic (D2) and serotonergic systems (5‐HT1b). Risperidone induced CBF alterations were correlated with its main targets in serotonergic and dopaminergic systems. JuSpace provides a biologically meaningful framework for linking neuroimaging to underlying neurotransmitter information. 相似文献

Spinal primary dural lymphoma (PDL) is uncommon with a total of 37 previous well‐documented cases reported, including one diagnosed in the authors' institution. More recently we encountered an additional case of spinal PDL that, similarly to our previous case, was grade 1–2 follicular B‐cell PDL. Our two cases were diagnosed over a 3‐year interval in a 72‐year‐old female and a 74‐year‐old male, respectively. An exhaustive literature review on PDL was performed consequently to reveal that: (i) spinal and cerebral sites of involvement by PDL are constantly mutually exclusive; and (ii) unlike cerebral PDL, which is usually of marginal zone B‐cell type, only two of the 38 cases of spinal PDL were diagnosed as such, diffuse large B‐cell lymphoma being the most commonly encountered type in the spine. This divergence infers that, in contrast to the prevailing concept that PDL is a unique disease group, PDL appears to be rather heterogeneous with a difference in predilection of lymphoma type for the anatomical site of dural involvement. Such a site‐specific lymphoma‐type predilection phenomenon, well‐recognized in other organ systems, has not been acknowledged in PDL. This report brings new insights into PDL, and may contribute to a better understanding of nervous system pathophysiology and lymphoma classification. 相似文献

In this study, an electrochemical DNA biosensor was developed based on the fabrication of silicon nanowires/platinum nanoparticles (SiNWs/PtNPs) on a screen-printed carbon electrode (SPCE) for the detection of Sus scrofa mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) in food utilizing a new hybrid indicator, ferrocenylnaphthalene diimide (FND). The morphology and elemental composition of the SiNWs/PtNPs-modified SPCE was analyzed by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) combined with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX). Cyclic voltammetry (CV) was used to study the electrical contact between the PtNPs and the screen-printed working electrode through SiNWs, while electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) was used to measure the charge transfer resistance of the modified electrode. The results clearly showed that the SiNWs/PtNPs were successfully coated onto the electrode and the effective surface area for the SiNWs/PtNPs-modified SPCE was increased 16.8 times as compared with that of the bare SPCE. Differential pulse voltammetry used for the detection of porcine DNA with FND as an intercalator confirmed its specific binding to the double-stranded DNA (dsDNA) sequences. The developed biosensor showed a selective response towards complementary target DNA and was able to distinguish non-complementary and mismatched DNA oligonucleotides. The SiNWs/PtNPs-modified SPCE that was fortified with DNA hybridization demonstrated good linearity in the range of 3 × 10−9 M to 3 × 10−5 M (R2 = 0.96) with a detection limit of 2.4 × 10−9 M. Hydatid cyst disease, which is endemically observed and an important health problem in our country, involves the spleen at a frequency ranking third following the liver and the lungs. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the efficacy and results of management in splenic hydatid cysts. The demographic data, localization, diagnosis, treatment methods, and the length of postoperative hospital stay of patients with splenic hydatid cysts in a 12-year period were evaluated retrospectively. Seventeen cases were evaluated. Among these, 13 were females and four were males. Seven had solitary splenic involvement, eight had involvement of both the spleen and the liver, and two had multiple organ involvement. Ten had undergone splenectomy, one had undergone distal splenectomy, and the remaining cases had undergone different surgical procedures. The patients had received albendazole treatment in the pre- and postoperative period. One patient had died secondary to hypernatremia on the first postoperative day. The clinical picture in splenic hydatid cysts, which is seen rarely, is usually asymptomatic. The diagnosis is established by ultrasonography and abdominal CT. Although splenectomy is the standard mode of treatment, spleen-preserving methods may be used. 相似文献

Background:
Non-surgical reduction remains the first line treatment of choice for intussusception. The major complication of air enema reduction is bowel perforation. The authors developed a custom made pressure release valve to be added to portable insufflation devices, delivering air at pressures accepted as safe for effective reduction of intussusception in children under fluoroscopic guidance. The aim of this study was to develop a custom made pressure release valve that is suitable for the insufflation devices used for air enema reduction of intussusception and to put this valve into regular clinical practice.Materials and Methods:
An adjustable, custom made pressure release valve was assembled by the authors using readily available components. The valve was coupled to a simple air enema insufflation device. The device was used for the trial of reduction of intussusception in a prospective study that included 132 patients.Results:
The success rate for air enema reduction with the new device was 88.2%. The mean pressure required to achieve complete reduction was 100 mmHg. The insufflation pressure never exceeded the preset value (120 mmHg). Of the successful cases, 58.3% were reduced from the first attempt while 36.1% required a second insufflation. Only 5.55% required a third insufflation to complete the reduction. In cases with unsuccessful pneumatic reduction attempt (18.1%), surgical treatment was required. Surgery ranged from simple reduction to resection with a primary end to end anastomosis. No complications from air enema were recorded.Conclusions:

There is controversy whether simultaneous thyrostatic medication influences the outcome of radioiodine (131I) therapy in Graves' disease by reducing the absorbed energy dose of 131I when delivering a standard dose. We therefore sought to ascertain whether the outcome of ablative 131I therapy is in any way affected by simultaneous thyrostasis (carbimazole) by aiming for a constant absorbed dose of 200-250 Gy. We prospectively studied 207 patients with Graves' disease (106 with and 101 without simultaneous carbimazole at the time of 131I therapy). All patients were reexamined 3, 6, and 12 months after 131I therapy. The 101 nonthyrostatic patients showed a highly significantly greater success rate (93%) than the 106 thyrostatic patients (49%). Stepwise logistic regression demonstrated that failure was related to the administration of carbimazole during 131I therapy (P < 0.00005) and the absorbed dose (P < 0.025), but was not related to free T3, free T4, TSH receptor antibodies, or thyroid volume. The success rate was 100% in 93 nonthyrostatic patients with absorbed doses of 200 Gy or more, but was only 12.5% (1 of 8) for absorbed doses less than 200 Gy. Correlation between success and absorbed dose was significantly higher for nonthyrostatic than for thyrostatic patients (r = 0.93 vs. r = 0.24). Sixteen patients who discontinued thyrostasis 1-3 days before 131I therapy showed 94% successes. Simultaneous thyrostasis is the decisive factor against a successful 131I therapy even if the significantly reduced 131I uptake/half-life values under thyrostasis are compensated with a higher delivered dose to ensure a comparable absorbed dose, possibly due to the additionally effective radioprotective properties of carbimazole. Therefore, if clinically feasible, we recommend discontinuing thyrostasis at least 1 day before beginning 131I therapy, because even in hyperthyroid nonthyrostatic patients the success rate was 100%. 相似文献
