The capability to adapt to changing conditions is crucial for safe and successful performance in physical activities and sports. According to the affordance-based control perspective, individuals act in such a way as to take into account the limits of their capability to act. However, it is not clear how strength interacts with skill in shaping performer-environment interactions. We, therefore, determined whether fingertip strength influences patterns of gaze and climbing behavior on new routes of ever-increasing difficulty. We expected that comparatively weaker climbers would show less complex behavior because of an inability to perceive and act. Stronger climbers would show more complex visuo-motor behavior because more opportunities for action remain, even as route difficulty increases. For very strong climbers the route would not be challenging enough, and less complex patterns suffice. Twenty climbers, ranging from lower grade to elite level participated. Maximum fingertip strength was obtained. Participants previewed and then climbed two separate 3 m long traverses, gradually decreasing in edge depth. Gaze and hip positions were collected for subsequent computation of gaze transition entropy (during preview) and hip displacement entropy (during climbing). Data revealed statistically significant curvilinear relationships between both fingertip strength and gaze transition entropy, and fingertip strength, and hip displacement entropy. Visuo-motor complexity is scaled by how close the individual must act relative to boundaries of what the environment affords and does not afford for action given the individual constraints. Future research should examine in greater detail relationships between action capabilities and functional movement variability. 相似文献

Compared to level running (LR), different strategies might be implemented by runners to cope with specific challenges of graded running at different speeds. The changes in joint kinetics and kinematics associated with graded running have been investigated, but their interactions with speed are unknown. Nineteen participants ran on an instrumented treadmill at five grades (0°, ±5° and ± 10°) and three speeds (2.50, 3.33 and 4.17 m/s), while 3D motion and forces were recorded. Three speed × five-grade repeated-measures ANOVA was used to analyze kinetic and kinematic variables. A speed × grade interaction was observed for hip range of motion (ROM). Downhill running (DR) at fastest speed did not reduce ROM at the hip, compared to LR. Compared to LR, it was observed that the hip joint was responsible for a greater contribution of energy generation while running at the fastest speed at +10°. Speed × grade interactions were also observed for the energy absorption, peak moment, and peak power at the knee. Contrary to LR, running faster during UR did not require higher peak power at the knee. Finally, DR at the fastest speed did not increase peak negative power at the knee compared to LR. This study demonstrates that ankle, knee, and hip joint kinetics depend on speed and grade of running, while the effect of grade on joint kinematics was not substantially modulated by speed. 相似文献

The Standardizing Care to Improve Outcomes in Pediatric End Stage Renal Disease (SCOPE) Collaborative is a North American multi-center quality transformation effort whose primary aim is to minimize exit-site infection and peritonitis rates among pediatric chronic peritoneal dialysis patients. The project, developed by the quality improvement faculty and staff at the Children’s Hospital Association’s Quality Transformation Network (QTN) and content experts in pediatric nephrology and pediatric infectious diseases, is modeled after the QTN’s highly successful Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and Hematology-Oncology central line-associated blood-stream infection (CLABSI) Collaboratives. Like the Association’s other QTN efforts, the SCOPE Collaborative is part of a broader effort to assist pediatric nephrology teams in learning about and using quality improvement methods to develop and implement evidence-based practices. In addition, the design of this project allows for targeted research that builds on high-quality, ongoing data collection. Finally, the project, while focused on reducing peritoneal dialysis catheter-associated infections, will also serve as a model for future pediatric nephrology projects that could further improve the quality of care provided to children with end stage renal disease. 相似文献

The difficulties in defining the borders of the schizophrenia spectrum is one major source of variance in linkage studies of schizophrenia. The employment of biological markers may prove advantageous. Due to empirical evidence, eye tracking dysfunction (ETD) has been discussed to be the most promising marker for genetic liability to schizophrenia. With respect to the recent progress in genomic scans, which have pointed to the short arm of chromosome 6, we carried out a scan of the 6p21–23 region with 16 microsatellite markers to test for linkage between chromosomal markers and ETD as well as schizophrenia. We tested 5 models of inheritance of ETD and found maximum two-point lod scores of 3.51 for D6S271 and 3.44 for D6S282. By including these markers in a multipoint analysis, a lod score of 4.02 was obtained. In the case of schizophrenia, 7 models were tested; however, with non-significant results. Our findings, together with another recent linkage report, point to the possibility of a second susceptibility locus for schizophrenia which may be located centromeric to the HLA region. Also, the evidence of ETD being a susceptibility marker for schizophrenia receives further support. 相似文献
