We examined the relationships between the relaxation mediated by beta-adrenoceptor and either the associated cyclic AMP production or the activation of cyclic AMP-dependent protein kinase (A-PK) in canine saphenous and portal veins. In the saphenous vein constricted with methoxamine, isoproterenol caused concentration-dependent relaxation (maximum relaxation 92.7%), and concomitant increases in cyclic AMP and A-PK activity ratio (from 52.8 to 73.5%). The portal vein was only slightly relaxed by isoproterenol (14.7% in the longitudinal strips) after constriction with methoxamine, while cyclic AMP and A-PK activation increased significantly. Isoproterenol markedly activated A-PK of the portal vein after KCl constriction (from 52.6 to 74.6%) but the maximum relaxation was only slight (13.3%). The portal vein also showed a smaller relaxation response to either forskolin or dibutyryl cyclic AMP than the saphenous vein. These results indicated that the relationship between the relaxation response to isoproterenol and either cyclic AMP production or A-PK activation was different in the saphenous and portal veins.  相似文献

Input-output (I/O) functions of hearing aids were measured in response to a 2000-Hz tone burst, having 0.5 ms rise/fall time and 10 ms duration. I/O functions, measured with a hearing-aid analyzer, served as reference conditions. Hearing-aid outputs at onset and during the steady-state portion of the waveform differed; these differences often depended upon stimulus rate. The relation between onset and steady-state estimates of output were not always predictable from hearing-aid attack and release times. These findings indicate that the steady-state output limitation characteristics of hearing aids cannot be estimated from their onset responses. In turn, this suggests that ABR measurements may not provide accurate estimates of the compressive characteristics of hearing aids.  相似文献

Sclerosing mucoepidermoid carcinoma (SMEC) with eosinophilia is a rare but distinctive tumor usually affecting the thyroid. SMEC involvement of salivary gland is exceptional, with only six cases in the literature. We present here the first case of an intermediate-grade SMEC, arising from the intraoral minor salivary glands. A particularly interesting finding is the cytoplasmic accumulation of eosinophilic hyaline granules in carcinoma cells, similar to aberrant zymogen-like granules previously described in salivary sclerosing polycystic adenosis.  相似文献

Summary Aspergillosis belongs to the group of mycotic diseases of paranasal sinuses. The invasive forms, and particularly the fulminant forms, are potentially fatal. Isolated aspergillosis of the sphenoid sinus or the clivus is a difficult diagnosis, since the often misleading clinical manifestations of this rare disease develop late. These patients become apparent by neurological signs such as cavernous sinus syndrome, pseudotumor of the pituitary or the orbit. Diagnosis is often made intra-operatively or on histological examination. We report a case of invasive aspergillosis uniquely involving the sellar area revealed by clinical features suggesting a pseudotumor of the pituitary. Although such lesions are almost always seen in immune suppressed subjects, in our case, the patient was immune competent and had no past history of sinusitis. The question of whether, and when to perform limited or extensive surgery remains an issue for discussion, owing to the rarity of this disease honed by lack of experience. It depends on several factors: the kind of disease, the immunity, the subtype of invasive fungal sinusitis and the degree of tissue invasion.  相似文献

Pyroglutamyl, proline-rich oligopeptides, classically referred to as bradykinin-potentiating peptides (BPPs) are found in Bothrops jararaca venom, and are naturally occurring inhibitors of the somatic angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE). The chemical and pharmacological properties of these peptides were essential for the development of captopril, the first active site directed inhibitor of ACE, currently used to treat human hypertension. ACE is a complex ectoenzyme of the vascular endothelium, possessing two catalytic sites, performing diverse specific roles. Recent advances concerning novel features of BPPs revealed that they might still contribute to a better understanding of the cardiovascular physiology and pathology. The molecular biology of the BPPs revealed that they are part of two distinct C-type natriuretic peptide precursors found in the venom gland and the brain of B. jararaca, each containing seven BPPs. In situ hybridization studies detected the presence of the corresponding mRNA precursor in snake brain regions correlated with neuroendocrine functions, such as the ventro-medial hypothalamus, the paraventricular nuclei, the paraventricular organ, and the subcommissural organ. In this article we discuss the large variety of homologous BPPs in B. jararaca venom and brain, its significance, and whether the BPPs could represent novel endogenous neuropeptides.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Tinnitus is an uncomfortable symptom for the patient and an embarrassing one for the consulted physician. So far, there is no treatment that can be considered well established in terms of providing long-term reduction of tinnitus in excess of placebo effects. There is considerable evidence of pathophysiological similarity between tinnitus and chronic pain. Some forms of chronic pain can be treated by neurostimulation. OBJECTIVE: This study was designed to investigate the feasibility of neurostimulation of the cochlear nerve in order to reduce tinnitus. STUDY DESIGN: Pilot study. SETTING: Tertiary referral center. PATIENTS: Five patients with therapeutically refractory tinnitus were selected for this study. INTERVENTION: Placing a stimulation lead around the cochlear nerve through the suboccipital approach and connecting the stimulation lead to a pulse generator. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: The patients experienced 1) an absence of major or minor complications, such as death, meningitis, cranial nerve deficit, and vestibular problems; 2) tolerance of the procedure as considered by the patient; 3) relief of tinnitus in at least one patient. RESULTS: Implantation of the neurostimulation system was accomplished in each patient without any difficulty. None of the patients considered the treatment unbearable. No major or minor complications occurred in this study. Subjective tinnitus reduction was accomplished in four patients. CONCLUSION: Our preliminary data show that neurostimulation of the cochlear nerve is feasible, is bearable for the patient, and is a safe treatment modality without major complications. The effects on tinnitus are promising.  相似文献
