In the pubertal period, bone age advances rapidly in conjunction with growth spurts. Precise bone-age assessments in this period are important, but results from the hand and elbow can be different. We aimed to compare the bone age between the hand and elbow around puberty onset and to elucidate the chronological age confirming puberty onset according to elbow-based bone age.A total of 211 peripubertal subjects (127 boys and 84 girls) who underwent hand and elbow radiographs within 2 months was enrolled. Two radiologists and a pediatric orthopedic surgeon assessed bone age. Hand bone age was graded using the Greulich–Pyle (GP) method, and elbow bone age was determined using the Sauvegrain method. The correlation of 2 methods was evaluated by Demining regression analysis, and the mean absolute difference (MAD) with chronological age was compared between pre-pubertal and pubertal subjects. Receiver-operating characteristic curve analysis was performed to determine the chronological age confirming puberty onset.There was a statistically significant difference in bone age revealed by the GP and Sauvegrain methods in the pubertal group. In the pubertal group, the MAD was 1.26 ± 0.90 years with the GP method and 0.61 ± 0.47 years with the Sauvegrain method in boys (P < .001), while in girls, the MAD was 0.84 ± 0.60 years and 0.53 ± 0.36 years with the same 2 methods (P = .033). The chronological age for confirming puberty onset using the elbow was 12.2 years in boys and 10.3 years in girls.The bone ages of hand and elbow were different at puberty, and the elbow was a more reliable location for bone-age assessment at puberty. Puberty onset according to elbow occurred slightly earlier than expected.  相似文献

In spite of great application potential as transparent n-type oxides with high electrical mobility at room temperature, threading dislocations (TDs) often found in the (Ba,La)SnO3 (BLSO) films can limit their intrinsic properties so that their role in the physical properties of BLSO films need to be properly understood. The electrical properties and electronic structure of BLSO films grown on SrTiO3 (001) (STO) and BaSnO3 (001) (BSO) substrates are comparatively studied to investigate the effect of the TDs. In the BLSO/STO films with TD density of ~1.32 × 1011 cm−2, n-type carrier density ne and electron mobility are significantly reduced, as compared with the BLSO/BSO films with nearly no TDs. This indicates that TDs play the role of scattering-centers as well as acceptor-centers to reduce n-type carriers. Moreover, in the BLSO/STO films, both binding energies of an Sn 3d core level and a valence band maximum are reduced, being qualitatively consistent with the Fermi level shift with the reduced n-type carriers. However, the reduced binding energies of the Sn 3d core level and the valence band maximum are clearly different as 0.39 and 0.19 eV, respectively, suggesting that the band gap renormalization preexisting in proportion to ne is further suppressed to restore the band gap in the BLSO/STO films with the TDs.  相似文献

Background: Bee venom acupuncture (BVA) is an effective treatment method for various diseases. Bee venom, however, can cause adverse effects, even rarely including life-threatening anaphylaxis, so safety-related evidence is required. In this study, we systematically estimated the incidence rate of anaphylaxis in response to BVA. Methods: We searched eight databases (MEDLINE (Pubmed), EMBASE, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled, KISS, KMBASE, Koreamed, OASIS, and NDSL) and systematically reviewed the articles that met the inclusion/exclusion criteria. Results: Among 225 potentially relevant articles, 49 were selected for this study. The overall incidence rate of anaphylaxis in response to BVA was 0.045% (95% CI 0.028–0.062). Women (0.083%, 95% CI 0.010–0.157) showed a higher incidence rate than men (0.019%, 95% CI −0.018 to 0.055), while the incidence for patients who had a skin test conducted (0.041%, 95% CI 0.011–0.072) was not significantly different compared to that obtained for patients for which there was no information about a skin test (0.047%, 95% CI 0.026–0.067). The publication year affected the incidence rate: it was highest before 1999 (1.099%, 95% CI −1.043 to 3.241), lower between 2000 and 2009 (0.049%, 95% CI 0.025–0.073), and lowest between 2010 and 2021 (0.037% 95% CI 0.014–0.060). Conclusions: In this study, we provide reference data about risk size and factors of BVA-related anaphylaxis, which is essentially required for BVA application in clinics.  相似文献

Surgical excision is the treatment of choice for subungual glomus tumor. However, the anatomical location has inherent difficulties. We report the outcomes of surgical treatments for subungual glomus tumor. Sixteen patients, who were seen over an eight-year period (1995-2003) and confirmed as gloums tumor by histopathologic examination were reviewed. The most common subjective symptom was pain induced by contact in 81%. The tumor presented as a discolorated spot or subungual nodule and 38% of tumors were acccompanied with nail dystrophy. All tumors showed discolorated spots or subungual nodules. As shown in the Table 2, the dystrophic nail change was found in 38% of tumors. Differently oriented incisions were made according to the location of tumor, matrix, or bed. The original nail plate was restored in eight patients. Thirteen patients (81%) had cosmetically excellent nail plates, and three patients (19%) had partial distal splits of nail plates. There was no recurrence. Our series suggests that a transungual approach with nail avulsion and an incision selected according to the tumor location can produce an excellent outcome with minimal postoperative complications. Dressing with a trimmed nail plate may also be beneficial in managing the wound and preventing postoperative nail deformity.  相似文献

ObjectiveThe need to perform genetic sequencing to diagnose the polymerase epsilon exonuclease (POLE) subtype of endometrial cancer (EC) hinders the adoption of molecular classification. We investigated clinicopathologic and protein markers that distinguish the POLE from the copy number (CN)-low subtype in EC.MethodsNinety-one samples (15 POLE, 76 CN-low) were selected from The Cancer Genome Atlas EC dataset. Clinicopathologic and normalized reverse phase protein array expression data were analyzed for associations with the subtypes. A logistic model including selected markers was constructed by stepwise selection using area under the curve (AUC) from 5-fold cross-validation (CV). The selected markers were validated using immunohistochemistry (IHC) in a separate cohort.ResultsBody mass index (BMI) and tumor grade were significantly associated with the POLE subtype. With BMI and tumor grade as covariates, 5 proteins were associated with the EC subtypes. The stepwise selection method identified BMI, cyclin B1, caspase 8, and X-box binding protein 1 (XBP1) as markers distinguishing the POLE from the CN-low subtype. The mean of CV AUC, sensitivity, specificity, and balanced accuracy of the selected model were 0.97, 0.91, 0.87, and 0.89, respectively. IHC validation showed that cyclin B1 expression was significantly higher in the POLE than in the CN-low subtype and receiver operating characteristic curve of cyclin B1 expression in IHC revealed AUC of 0.683.ConclusionBMI and expression of cyclin B1, caspase 8, and XBP1 are candidate markers distinguishing the POLE from the CN-low subtype. Cyclin B1 IHC may replace POLE sequencing in molecular classification of EC.  相似文献

Citrate-soluble proteins were extracted from normal and degenerating chicken sciatic nerves and added to chick embryonic skeletal muscle cultures to determine the trophic influences of the soluble proteins upon muscle cells. The soluble protein from normal or degenerating nerves was equally effective in promoting the protein synthesis, maturation, and long-term maintenance of muscle cells. Normal or degenerating nerve protein stimulated [14C]leucine incorporation into muscle cell protein and enhanced the morphologic maturation of muscle cells in culture. Furthermore, matured, cross-striated myotubes survived longer in the presence of normal or degenerating nerve protein than in control cultures. Sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis on thin-layer gels revealed similar electrophoretic patterns for normal and degenerating nerve proteins. Electrophoretic gels also revealed the presence in these extracts of a protein with MWR 84,000 which migrated in a manner identical to a neurotrophic protein which was recently purified from chicken sciatic nerves. The present results indicate that neural proteins having trophic influences upon muscle in vitro persist in degenerating sciatic nerve. We therefore conclude that the in vivo changes in muscle after denervation are not due to the depletion of trophic substances following nerve transection.  相似文献
