The paper presents an evaluation of the possibility of using fetal magnetocardiogram (FMCG) signals to estimate and classify the accessory pathway in fetal Wolff-Parkinson-White (WPW) syndrome. The FMCG signals of two fetuses with WPW syndrome (type A) were detected using a 64-channel superconducting quantum-interference device system. An average across the cycles of these signals was taken to obtain clear WPW signals. To determine the direction and position of the accessory pathway in a fetal heart accurately, the accessory pathway and activated pathway at the peak of the QRS complex thus obtained were estimated for each fetus, using a single-dipole model. The phase angle (about 90o) between the equivalent current dipoles (ECDs) was the same for both fetuses. This angle suggested that the accessory pathway is in the left side of the heart, i.e. that the pathway exists in the position of the accessory pathway in a fetus with WPW syndrome from the angle between the ECD of the accessory pathway and the ECD of the peak in the QRS complex was thus demonstrated.  相似文献

Using a serum-free culture method, we investigated the effects of vitamin A on the proliferation of human distal airway epithelial cells. Outgrowth of epithelial cells from lung tissue explants was enhanced by treatment with all-trans retinol at concentrations of 10–8 to 10–7 M. The colony-forming activity of cells harvested from the primary culture and replated onto Swiss 3T3 fibroblastic feeders was, in contrast, significantly reduced by 10–7 M to 10–5 M retinol. When the primary cells were harvested and subcultured on Primaria plates, population expansion was also inhibited by retinol at 10–10 to 10–6 M. We further investigated the cells to determine whether there was any difference in sensitivity to the growth-inhibitory effects of vitamin A between cells from the primary culture incubated with and without retinol. The population increase in cells harvested from the primary culture was inhibited equally in retinol-treated and non-treated cells by subsequent treatment with retinol or retinoic acid, this inhibition being dose-dependent. DNA synthetic activity was also inhibited. Interestingly, both the growth rate and the colony-forming efficiency on feeders were greater in the subculture of cells from the retinol-treated primary culture than in those non-treated. When the cells in the secondary subculture were treated with retinoic acid and replated again, they showed a greater population increase rate than those non-treated. Our results showed that human distal airway epithelial cells isolated from lung tissue were sensitive to the growth-inhibitory effect of vitamin A, but the proliferative potential in some fraction of the epithelial cell population was possibly enhanced by vitamin A treatment.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: We investigated the usefulness of skin prick test (SPT) for the diagnosis of egg white (EW) allergy in infants with atopic dermatitis who showed negative to EW CAPRAST, and followed up the EW-CAPRAST in this study. SUBJECTS AND METHODS: Data of negative SPT using Bifurcated needle (BN) were analyzed from the data of 202 atopic dermatitis infants, who had received SPT from January in 2001 to April in 2005. From the negative SPT value (average and standard deviation) positive SPT value was obtained. Among 202 cases, 89 suspected-egg allergy infants with negative IgE CAPRAST against EW at the time of first visit were recruited to examine the usefulness of SPT. Positive conversion of EW-CAPRAST was checked in 78 cases (65: egg allergy+, 13: egg allergy(-)) who had been followed up in our outpatient clinic. RESULTS: Range of negative SPT control value (mean+2SD) using BF among infants could be set as less than 2 mm for wheal and/or 5 mm for erythema. Among 89 suspected-egg allergy infants with negative EW-CAPRAST, 72 infants (80.9%) were diagnosed as egg allergy by the combination of elimination and provocation test, interestingly 39 infants (54.2%) showed positive SPT results. In the follow up study of 78 negative EW-CAPRAST cases, 47 EW-CAPRAST out of 65 egg-allergy cases turned positive later infantile period (mean EW-CAPRAST: 9.6+/-16.7 Ua/ml at 9.9+/-5.6 months old). EW-CAPRAST of 7 cases in 13 non-egg allergies also turned positive in the follow up, however EW-CAPRAST titer was relatively lower compared to that of egg allergies (1.1+/-1.5 Ua/ml at 13.3+/-2.6 months old). CONCLUSIONS: We experienced fairly number of atopic infants with negative EW-CAPRAST at the first outpatient visit, who were later diagnosed as egg allergy. In about half of these cases, SPT egg-allergy infants, three quarter of EW-CAPRAST turned positive around 10 months old. EW-CAPRAST of atopic infants without egg allergy also turned transiently and slightly positive. In the conclusions, SPT seemed to be more useful than EW-CAPRAST for the diagnosis of egg allergy in early infantile period, however provocation test should be required for the definitive diagnosis in suspected-egg allergy infants without any proof of egg-sensitization.  相似文献

Bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) is a potent induction factor for new bone formation including heterotopic chondro-ossification in soft tissues. The immunohistochemical reaction for BMP was studied in 23 cases of pleomorphic adenoma of salivary gland by using a monoclonal antibody produced by hybridoma technique. Positive BMP immunoreactivity was seen in 87% of tumours. Immunohistochemical expression of BMP was observed in modified myoepithelial cells (88% cases), luminal tumour cells of tubulo-ductal structures (78% cases) and chondroid cells in hyaline tissue (22% cases). The authors concluded that the simultaneous presence of glycosaminoglycans as matrix substance and S-100 protein for calcium signalling are associated with BMP-mediated cellular activity of modified myoepithelial cells in the formation of chondroid structures in pleomorphic adenomas of the salivary glands.  相似文献

Using digital image analysis and several anatomical methods, morphometric analysis of nonspanning fibers which had tapering profiles at their intrafascicular termination sites and represented overlapping arrangements within the fiber fascicles was performed in the rat rectus abdominis. Special emphasis was focused on dimensional relationships occurring between overlapping portions and tapering segments and sarcomere lengths in non- and overlapping portions. Nonspanning fibers were found to overlap each other for more than 40% of their length. In length, their overlapping portions generally corresponded to their tapering segments, which were also greater than 40% of the fiber length. In addition, despite the presence of overlapping linkages, nonspanning fibers maintained a fairly uniform length irrespective of their overlapping and non-overlapping portions. Overlapping linkages in fibers without tapering profiles have a larger cross-sectional area in the overlapping portion than in the non-overlapping one, resulting in a phenomenon which will cause different sarcomere lengths between the two portions during fiber stretching. The present results suggest that tapering profiles in the overlapping portion ensure uniform sarcomere lengths within nonspanning fibers, thereby providing mechanical stability in each fiber. © 1993 Wiley-Liss, Inc.  相似文献

P15E is a specific sequence among the envelope gene (env)-encoded transmembrane proteins of exogenous and endogenous retroviruses. A synthetic peptide (CKS-17) that shows homology to this p15E region in several species of retrovirus is known to induce immune abnormalities. In this study, we examined the effect of a synthetic peptide derived from a region of human endogenous retrovirus (HERV) clone 4-1 ( 4-1) similar to sequences of CKS-17 on the induction of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE)-related immune abnormalities. Our results indicated that this peptide could induce T-cell activation and anergy in normal peripheral blood mononuclear cells, and the peptide could also promote the production of interleukins IL-6 and IL-16. These phenomena are representative immune abnormalities observed in SLE patients. Thus, our findings support the possibility that HERV acts as a pathogen in human SLE.  相似文献

The hydrophobic surface of oriented poly(propylene) film (OPP) was modified to a hydrophilic one by a novel photo-grafting procedure using acrylamide (AM) as monomer. A deoxygenated acetone solution containing AM and benzophenone (BP) or other sensitizers was brought into contact with OPP film and the reaction system was photoirradiated from the other side of the polymer film. Within a few minutes, surface photo-grafting resulted. The influences of solvent, sensitizer, and additives revealed that the graft polymerization was initiated by hydrogen abstraction from the polymer surface by the triplet excited state of the sensitizer. IR Spectroscopy as well as ESCA measurements confirmed that the graft polymerization occurred on the film surface. The wettability of the grafted OPP film is discussed and correlated with the relative amount of surface grafting. The contact angle of untreated OPP film to water (101°) decreased to ≈40° after surface photografting. The drastic change of surface properties makes the practical application of the present technique feasible.  相似文献

The correlation between lipid peroxidation and morphologic changes was examined in Sprague-Dawley rat lungs after 30 Gy single thoracic radiation. The rats were sacrificed every week until the end of the fifth week after radiation. The left lungs were used for the measurement of lipid peroxides and antioxidant enzymes activities. The right lungs were examined by light and electron microscopy. Amounts of lung lipid peroxides were within normal limits, and no cellular degenerative changes were observed in the lungs except for subendothelial and interstitial edema 2 weeks after radiation. Lipid peroxides drastically increased and marked degenerative cellular changes such as edematous swelling, vacuolation, and destruction of cell membranes occurred in the alveolar septa following the third week after radiation. The activities of catalase were significantly higher during the period from the second to the fifth week and those of superoxide dismutase and glutathione peroxidase increased at the end of the fifth week. Our results demonstrated that the acceleration of lipid peroxidation was well correlated with the morphologic expression of cell injury in the irradiated lungs.  相似文献
