The reproducibility of neurite orientation dispersion and density imaging (NODDI) metrics in the human brain has not been explored across different magnetic resonance (MR) scanners from different vendors. This study aimed to evaluate the scan–rescan and inter-vendor reproducibility of NODDI metrics in white and gray matter of healthy subjects using two 3-T MR scanners from two vendors. Ten healthy subjects (7 males; mean age 30 ± 7 years, range 23–37 years) were included in the study. Whole-brain diffusion-weighted imaging was performed with b-values of 1000 and 2000 s/mm2 using two 3-T MR scanners from two different vendors. Automatic extraction of the region of interest was performed to obtain NODDI metrics for whole and localized areas of white and gray matter. The coefficient of variation (CoV) and intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) were calculated to assess the scan–rescan and inter-vendor reproducibilities of NODDI metrics. The scan–rescan and inter-vendor reproducibility of NODDI metrics (intracellular volume fraction and orientation dispersion index) were comparable with those of diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) metrics. However, the inter-vendor reproducibilities of NODDI (CoV = 2.3–14%) were lower than the scan–rescan reproducibility (CoV: scanner A = 0.8–3.8%; scanner B = 0.8–2.6%). Compared with the finding of DTI metrics, the reproducibility of NODDI metrics was lower in white matter and higher in gray matter. The lower inter-vendor reproducibility of NODDI in some brain regions indicates that data acquired from different MRI scanners should be carefully interpreted. 相似文献

Suitable lesions for endoscopic treatment include not only early colorectal carcinomas but also several types of precarcinomatous adenomas. It is important to establish practical guidelines wherein preoperative diagnosis of colorectal neoplasia and selection of endoscopic treatment procedures are appropriately outlined and to ensure that actual endoscopic treatment is useful and safe in general hospitals when carried out in accordance with guidelines. In cooperation with the Japanese Society for Cancer of the Colon and Rectum, the Japanese Society of Coloproctology, and the Japanese Society of Gastroenterology, the Japan Gastroenterological Endoscopy Society compiled colorectal endoscopic submucosal dissection/endoscopic mucosal resection guidelines by using evidence-based methods in 2014. H7N9 influenza virus infection in humans was reported in China on March 31, 2013. Humans are immunologically naïve to the H7N9 subtype, for which the seasonal influenza vaccine is not effective. Thus, the development of an H7N9 influenza virus vaccine is an urgent issue. To prepare for the emergence of an influenza pandemic, we have established a library comprising more than 1300 influenza virus strains with 144 different combinations of 16 HA and 9 NA subtypes. An H7N9 virus strain isolated from a 35-year-old woman, A/Anhui/1/2013 (H7N9), was found to be antigenically similar to H7N9 influenza viruses isolated from migratory ducks. In the present study, the potency of an inactivated whole virus particle vaccine prepared from an H7N9 low pathogenic avian influenza virus, A/duck/Mongolia/119/2008 (H7N9), selected from the library, was assessed by a challenge with A/Anhui/1/2013 (H7N9). The results indicate that the test vaccine was potent enough to induce sufficient immunity to reduce the impact of disease caused by the challenge with A/Anhui/1/2013 (H7N9) in mice. The present results indicate that an inactivated whole virus particle vaccine prepared from an influenza virus strain stored in the library could be useful as a vaccine strain in case of an influenza pandemic. 相似文献

Physical activity plays an important role in preventing chronic disease in adults and the elderly. Exercise has beneficial effects on the nervous system, including at the neuromuscular junction (NMJ). Exercise causes hypertrophy of NMJs and improves recovery from peripheral nerve injuries, whereas decreased physical activity causes degenerative changes in NMJs. Recent studies have begun to elucidate molecular mechanisms underlying the beneficial effects of exercise. These mechanisms involve Bassoon, neuregulin‐1, peroxisome proliferator–activated receptor gamma coactivator 1α, insulin‐like growth factor‐1, glial cell line–derived neurotrophic factor, neurotrophin 4, Homer, and nuclear factor of activated T cells c1. For example, NMJ denervation and active zone decreases have been observed in aged NMJs, but these age‐dependent degenerative changes can be ameliorated by exercise. In this review we assess the effects of exercise on the maintenance and regeneration of NMJs and highlight recent insights into the molecular mechanisms underlying these exercise effects. Purpose
Endoscopic thoracic sympathectomy (ETS) for the treatment of palmar hyperhidrosis is generally performed at one or two levels ranging between T2 and T4; however, compensatory sweating (CS) is an occasional bothersome side effect. The aim of our study was to evaluate the association between the extent of ETS and the degree of postoperative CS and palmar sweating, as well as patient satisfaction.Methods
The participants represented a consecutive series of 76 patients who underwent bilateral ETS for palmar hyperhidrosis at level T2 and/or T3. Patients were interviewed by postal questionnaires to assess their self-reported degree of postoperative palmar sweating and CS and their outcome satisfaction. Of the 53 patients who replied to the postal questionnaire, 25 underwent bilateral ETS at one level (group A), and 27 underwent bilateral ETS at two levels (group B). One patient who underwent asymmetrical sympathectomy was excluded.Results
The degree of postoperative palmar sweating was significantly lower in group B than in group A. The severity of CS was significantly higher in group B than in group A. The severity of CS was significantly inversely correlated with the degree of patient satisfaction. However, the degree of postoperative palmar sweating was not correlated with the degree of patient satisfaction.Conclusions
Compared to ETS at two levels, single-level ETS of T2 or T3 reduces postoperative palmar sweating to a milder degree, and causes CS to a less severe degree. The severity of CS is inversely correlated with the degree of patient satisfaction. 相似文献1000.
