[Purpose] The purpose of this study was to compare the intramuscular balance ratios of the upper trapezius muscle (UT) and the lower trapezius muscle (LT), and the intermuscular balance ratios of the UT and the serratus anterior muscle (SA) among prone extension (ProExt), prone horizontal abduction with external rotation (ProHAbd), forward flexion in the side-lying position (SideFlex), side-lying external rotation (SideEr), shoulder flexion with glenohumeral horizontal abduction load (FlexBand), and shoulder flexion with glenohumeral horizontal adduction load (FlexBall) in the standing posture. [Methods] The electromyographic (EMG) activities of the UT, LT and SA were measured during the tasks. The percentage of maximum voluntary isometric contraction (%MVIC) was calculated for each muscle, and the UT/LT ratios and the UT/SA ratios were compared among the tasks. [Results] The UT/LT ratio with the FlexBand was not significantly different from those of the four exercises in the side-lying and prone postures. The UT/SA ratio with the FlexBall demonstrated appropriate balanced activity. [Conclusion] In an anti-gravity posture, we recommend the FlexBand and the FlexBall for inducing balanced UT/LT and UT/SA ratios, respectively.Key words: Scapular muscle exercise, Balanced scapular muscle activity, Electromyography  相似文献

The ratio of portal venous to hepatic blood flow was measured in chronic liver diseases by radionuclide angiography with 99mTc-Sn colloid and its clinical value was discussed. The ratio was proportionally decreased to the progression of the diseases (normal 74.5 +/- 7.3%, chronic hepatitis 58.8 +/- 9.2%, compensated liver cirrhosis 29.3 +/- 19.3%). In alcoholic liver diseases, the standard deviation of the ratio was large as 52.7 +/- 23.7%, and the low ratio in the early period of the disease increased within one or two months as the disease recovered. In comparison with the histological findings of the liver, the ratio in the alcoholic liver diseases was well correlated with the severity of liver fibrosis and liver cell swelling. In conclusion, this noninvasive and simple method is valuable in diagnosing the chronic liver disease, especially alcoholic liver diseases, and also in estimating its clinical course.  相似文献

Dioxins, including the most toxic congener, 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD), exert diverse biological effects in humans and animals. Host resistance, especially to virus infections, is considered one of the most sensitive targets of TCDD-toxicity, while a recent study showed that the vulnerability to TCDD of host resistance to viruses varied form experiment to experiment. Burleson et al. [Fundam. Appl. Toxicol. 29 (1996) 40] reported that a single oral dose as low as 10 ng TCDD/kg increased the mortality of mice infected with influenza A virus. If this value had been adopted as the basis for the tolerable daily intake (TDI) of dioxins, the TDI of 1-4 pg toxic equivalent (TEQ)/kg per day recommended by WHO would have to be lower. In the present study, we used the same experimental protocol described by Burleson et al. to determine whether low-dose TCDD consistently compromises the host resistance of mice infected with influenza A virus. To do so, we investigated the effect of TCDD in the dose range of 0-500 ng/kg on the mortality of virus-infected female B6C3F1 mice. We also investigated the sex- and strain-dependency of host resistance in male B6C3F1 mice and in female C57Bl/6, Balb/c, and DBA/2 mice by administering the same dose range of TCDD. The results showed that TCDD doses up to 500 ng/kg did not increase the mortality of virus-infected mice in any of the strains. Further studies on the mechanism underlying the toxicity of TCDD are needed to assess the risk of exposure to this compound in influenza A virus infection.  相似文献

We developed a simple method to identify fiber projections that contain bioactive substances using biotinized wheat-germ agglutinin. Tracer that accumulated retrogradely in the soma was made visible under the light microscope by linking it with streptavidin-Texas red, which has a red fluorescence, while antigen was demonstrated in the same section by indirect immunofluorescence using fluorescein isothiocyanate with green fluorescence as a marker. Under the electron microscope, the tracer was identified using streptavidin-colloidal gold particles, while the antigen was demonstrated in the same ultrathin section using the peroxidase-antiperoxidase technique. This method makes it possible to demonstrate the locations of both the biotinized retrograde tracer and the antigen in the soma of the same neuron at both light and electron microscopic levels.  相似文献

The postnatal ontogeny of cells expressing prepro-neurotensin/neuromedin N messenger RNA (prepro-NT/NN mRNA) in the rat forebrain and midbrain was investigated by in situ hybridization histochemistry. According to the pattern of expression during development, the cells which express prepro-NT/NN mRNA can be roughly divided into 2 groups. In type I cells, prepro-NT/NN mRNA expression reaches a maximum in terms of content during the postnatal period. After this early peak, cells of this type express the same or less prepro-NT/NN mRNA, reaching a plateau at an adult level that still contains a high level of expression. In type II cells, prepro-NT/NN mRNA appears during the postnatal period, and the expression decreases dramatically after the first postnatal week, being almost undetectable by a few weeks after birth. Type I cells were observed in the following areas: the piriform cortex, field CA1 of Ammon's horn, subiculum, vertical, and horizontal limbs of the diagonal band of Broca, intermediate part of the lateral septal nucleus, bed nucleus of the stria terminalis, medial preoptic area, lateral hypothalamus, caudal part of the caudate putamen, medial, cortical, and central amygdaloid nuclei, ventral tegmental area, deep mesencephalic nucleus, cuneiform nucleus, dorsal raphe nucleus, laterodorsal tegmental nucleus, parabrachial nucleus, and oral part of the pontine reticular nucleus. Cells of type II were observed in the following areas: the mitral cell layer of the olfactory bulb, rostral part of the caudate putamen, (anterior) cingulate cortex, and retrosplenial cortex (posterior cingulate cortex).  相似文献

A new health promotion approach for elderly persons is required which maintains not only their physical health but also their quality of life. We are developing a health promotion system which makes use of questionnaires dealing with physical conditions and quality of life, and makes health reports. Health evaluation is carried out in three steps. First, detailed information about the physical health of each client is collected. Second, quality of life is evaluated according to five health indicators. Last, health recommendations are generated. An artificial intelligence (AI) program produces detailed questions to collect necessary information for the evaluation of a client's health. The information related to quality of life is converted into five health indicators and presented as a radar-chart in documents and displays. The knowledge-based AI program automatically generates the health recommendation documents. This information is available for physicians and nurses for health counseling.  相似文献

The morphological organization of the somatostatin (SRIF)-positive neurons in the forebrain (telencephalon and diencephalon) of the warbling grass parakeet (Melopsittacus undulatus) was studied using the indirect immunohistochemical technique of Coons and co-workers ('58). In the telencephalon, a number of SRIF-positive neurons was detected in the lobus paraolfactorius, hippocampus, and paleostriatum. Furthermore, scattered SRIF-labeled cells were noticed in the area corticoidea dorsolateralis and area temporoparieto-occipitalis. A moderate density of immunoreactive fibers was found in the above areas. In addition, although the septal areas was devoid of SRIF-positive neurons, this area contained a moderate occurred in the following hypothalamic areas: (1) nucleus medialis hypothalami posterior, (2) lateral hypothalamus, and (3) mammillary nucleus. The bird hypothalamus also received a strikingly massive SRIF innervation. The heaviest concentration of SRIF-labeled fibers was detected in the medial eminence. Many SRIF-labeled fibers were also observed in other hypothalamic regions. Their locations roughly corresponded in many cases to the areas in which SRIF-positive neurons were disclosed. The overall distribution of the catecholamine system (CA) of the avian forebrain is also represented by means of histofluorescent technique. A possible interaction between SRIF and CA neurons systems is briefly discussed.  相似文献

The localization of calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) and substance P (SP) in the rat trigeminal ganglion was examined by means of the indirect immunofluorescent method. About 40% of neurons in the ganglion contained CGRP-like immunoreactivity (CGRPI), while about 20% of neurons showed SP-like immunoreactivity (SPI). In serial sections, nearly all the SPI neurons contained CGRPI.  相似文献
