Rare postsurgical complication of atrial septal defect closure: right inflow obstruction due to inadvertent suturing of eustachian valve to interatrial septum

We report the case of a 20-year-old woman who received corrective surgery for a secundum atrial septal defect, during which right atrial inflow obstruction developed because of inadvertent suturing of the eustachian valve to the interatrial septum. Although reliable cardiac surgical techniques are available, this rather rare complication may have deleterious results for patients. If a previously absent murmur is detected in the lower left parasternal border after atrial septal defect surgery, right atrial inflow obstruction caused by the eustachian valve should be kept in mind and further careful examination undertaken.

There is an ongoing discussion on how to diagnose a hyperechogenic pancreas and what is the clinical significance of diffusely hyperechogenic pancreas. Ventricular septal defect and Swyer-James (Macleod's) syndrome together: a case report

Swyer-James (MacLeod's) syndrome is a rare entity that is characterized by the hyperlucent appearance of one or more lobes of one lung, diminished ipsilateral hilar shadow and hardly visible arterial structure on chest radiography. Ventricular septal defect is the most common childhood congenital heart defect and, if left untreated, this will result to irreversible pulmonary hypertension, reversing of the shunt and Eisenmenger's syndrome. In this case report, we describe a 19-year-old female patient who had diagnosis of VSD and Swyer-James syndrome at the same time.     

Childhood non-Hodgkin's lymphoma arising as a complication early in the course of Crohn's disease

The neoplastic change in patients with Crohn's disease is usually seen in the form of adenocarcinoma. Primary gastrointestinal lymphoma complicating chronic inflammatory bowel diseases is thought to be uncommon. This report describes a case of gastrointestinal lymphoma in a 12-year-old boy with Crohn's disease of one-year duration that initially manifested as an abdominal mass. Although Crohn's disease may present as a palpable abdominal mass, changing symptomatology should always warrant consideration of developing lymphoma complicating inflammatory bowel diseases. It is our hope that this case report gives the clinician an insight into the possibility of lymphoma development, even in the early course of the disease, and stresses the importance of obtaining a reliable histological diagnosis whenever possible.     

Endonasal endoscopic approach for recurrent nasolabial cyst

ABSTRACT: Nasolabial cysts are rare nonodontogenic cystic lesions in the soft tissue of the midface and usually present with painless asymptomatic swelling in the nasolabial region. Surgical excision via sublabial approach is considered as the standard treatment. However, endonasal endoscopic marsupialization of the cyst is reported as an effective alternative method for nasolabial cysts. Marsupialization of the cyst is believed to integrate the nasolabial cyst into a part of the nasal cavity as an air-containing sinus. In this article, we present an endonasal endoscopic marsupialization technique in case of recurrent nasolabial cyst. To draw attention to this approach, we present our case with current literature.
