Worldwide, there are up to 900 million people over 60 years old, of which more than half are physically inactive. Low physical fitness seems to be the major risk factor for cardiovascular diseases and mortality in this population. Alternative methods of exercise, such as martial arts, may be an option to improve physical fitness in the elderly. This study aimed to verify the effects of Brazilian jiu-jitsu (BJJ) training on the functional fitness of elderly men. Sixty-two elderly men were divided in two groups (experimental and control). The experimental group was submitted to a 12-week intervention of BJJ (2 times week?1; 90-min session?1). Physical fitness tests and anthropometric measurements were performed before and after intervention in both groups. No statistical differences were found between groups before and after the intervention. The experimental group improved in all performed physical fitness tests. Effect size showed that intervention had a small effect on upper body flexibility; a moderate effect for upper body strength, lower body flexibility, and motor agility/dynamic balance; and a large effect on lower body strength and aerobic endurance. BJJ seems to improve functional fitness in elderly men and may be an alternative method to enhance this population’s health and quality of life. 相似文献

Background
No study has investigated the alterations in the flexibility of beginners using an experimental protocol with basic techniques of Capoeira.Purpose
To analyze the effects of 8 weeks of Capoeira progressive training program on the flexibility of beginners.Methods
Twenty-one individuals divided in two groups (Capoeira: n = 13; 26.1 ± 7.2 years; 22.7 ± 2.7 kg m2(?1) and control: n = 08; 27.1 ± 0.5 years; 24.3 ± 3.3 kg m2(?1)) participated in the study. The Capoeira group performed 8 weeks of Capoeira progressive training program (two sessions per week lasting 60 min each). The experimental protocol used was exclusively based on the basic techniques of a programmed Capoeira training system. Before and after the intervention, measurements were performed aiming to analyze (1) trunk flexion flexibility through a sit-and-reach test using a Wells’ Bench (WBtf), (2) passive tension (PThf), and (3) maximum amplitude of hip flexion (MAhf) through goniometry.Results
A two-way ANOVA revealed a main effect of group by time interaction to PThf (F = 11.797; P = 0.003; η p 2 = 0.383) and MAhf (F = 9.650; P = 0.006; η p 2 = 0.337). No significant main effect of group by time interaction occurred to WBtf (F = 3.320; P = 0.084; η p 2 = 0.149). The relative changes (? %) before and after the intervention in both groups showed that the Capoeira group significantly differed to the control group in the PThf (Capoeira: 46.2 ± 29.9 % vs. control: 5.7 ± 27.6 %; P = 0.003) and MAhf (Capoeira: 22.4 ± 24.5 % vs. control: ?6.1 ± 13.1 %; P = 0.006).Conclusion
Eight weeks of Capoeira progressive training program resulted in a significant improvement in angular flexibility for beginners.974.

Background
Exercise improves quality of life (QoL). However, little is known concerning the effects of different volumes of strength exercise on QoL. The aims of this study are to: (1) evaluate the effects of water-based strength exercise on QoL of healthy young women and (2) compare the effects of different volumes of water-based strength exercises on QoL of healthy young women.Methods
Sixty-six participants were randomly allocated into four groups with different volumes of exercise. The participants performed water-based strength exercises for 20 weeks, two times a week, supervised by trained physiologists.Results
A significant improvement was found in overall QoL (F = 5.96; p = 0.018) and in physical (F = 22.01; p < 0.001), psychological (F = 8.408; p = 0.006) and environment domains (F = 8.34; p = 0.006). In addition, a significant decrease of depressive symptoms was found (F = 22.32; p < 0.001). No difference was found between groups in any domain of QoL or depressive symptoms.Conclusion
Water-based strength exercise improves specific domains of QoL and decreases depressive symptoms of young healthy women. Different volumes of exercise promote similar effects on QoL and depressive symptoms.975.

Background
Doppler images of pulmonary vessels in pulmonary diseases associated with subpleural consolidations have been described. Color Doppler easily identifies such vessels within consolidations while spectral Doppler analysis allows the differentiation between pulmonary and bronchial arteries. Thus, Doppler helps in diagnosing the nature of consolidations. To our knowledge, Doppler analysis of pulmonary vessels within anesthesia-induced atelectasis has never been described before. The aim of this case series is to demonstrate the ability of lung ultrasound to detect the shunting of blood within atelectatic lung areas in anesthetized children.Findings
Three anesthetized and mechanically ventilated children were scanned in the supine position using a high-resolution linear probe of 6–12 MHz. Once subpleural consolidations were detected in the most dependent posterior lung regions, the probe was rotated such that its long axis followed the intercostal space. In this oblique position, color Doppler mapping was performed to detect blood flow within the consolidation. Thereafter, pulsed waved spectral Doppler was applied in the previously identified vessels during a short expiratory pause, which prevented interferences from respiratory motion. Different flow patterns were identified which corresponded to both, pulmonary and bronchial vessels. Finally, a lung recruitment maneuver was performed which leads to the complete resolution of the aforementioned consolidation thereby confirming the pathophysiological entity of anesthesia-induced atelectasis.Conclusions
Lung ultrasound is a non-invasive imaging tool that not only enables the diagnosis of anesthesia-induced atelectasis in pediatric patients but also analysis of shunting blood within this consolidation.976.

Background
Current therapeutic strategies to effectively treat antibody-mediated rejection (AMR) are insufficient. Thus, we aimed to determine the benefit of a therapeutic protocol using bortezomib for refractory C4d + AMR in pediatric kidney transplant patients.Methods
We examined seven patients with treatment-refractory C4d + AMR. Immunosuppression included antithymocyte globulin or anti-CD25 monoclonal antibody for induction therapy with maintenance corticosteroids, calcineurin inhibitor, and anti-metabolite. Estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) calculated by the Schwartz equation, biopsy findings assessed by 2013 Banff criteria, and human leukocyte antigen (HLA) donor-specific antibodies (DSA) performed using the Luminex single antigen bead assay were monitored pre- and post- bortezomib therapy.Results
Seven patients (86 % male, 86 % with ≥6/8 HLA mismatch, and 14 % with pre-formed DSA) age 5 to 19 (median 15) years developed refractory C4d + AMR between 1 and 145 (median 65) months post-transplantation. All patients tolerated bortezomib. One patient had allograft loss. Of the six patients with surviving grafts (86 %), mean pre-bortezomib eGFR was 42 ml/min/1.73 m2 and the mean 1 year post-bortezomib eGFR was 53 ml/min/1.73 m2. Five of seven (71 %) had improvement of histological findings of AMR, C4d staining, and/or acute cellular rejection. Reduction in HLA DSAs was more effective for class I than class II.Conclusions
Bortezomib appears safe and may correlate with stabilization of eGFR in pediatric kidney transplant patients with refractory C4d + AMR.979.

Introduction and hypothesis
Abnormalities of common collagen proteins have been noted in individuals affected by POP and JHM, suggesting a common aetiology. We assessed strength, consistency and potential for bias in pooled associations of the relationship between JHM and POP.Methods
We searched MEDLINE, EMBASE and CINAHL, as well as International Continence Society (ICS) and International Urogynaecologic Association (IUGA) annual meeting abstracts, including reference lists, without language restrictions. We included case–control and cohort studies and applied strict criteria for choosing eligible studies. Methodologically trained reviewers independently screened abstracts and full texts to confirm eligibility. We extracted data on study and patient characteristics, clinical assessment tools, and methodology. We assessed comparability and representativeness of source populations, confidence in the assessment of JHM and POP and adjustment for confounding and missing data. Meta-analysis was performed using a random effects model.Results
We retrieved 39 full texts, of which 14 were used in the meta-analysis. Overall pooled odds ratio (OR) was 2.37 [95 % confidence interval (CI) 1.54–3.64, I2?=?77.0 %]. We identified no significant factors in meta-regression, and there was no evidence of publication bias; six studies were at high risk of bias with frequent differences in sampling frames, limited validity for clinical assessments and failure to match for important prognostic variables.Conclusions
We found a strong association between POP and JHM, with an effect size that is clinically relevant. Our findings are limited by high heterogeneity and the potential for residual confounding factors. JHM is an important early indicator for POP risk, and future longitudinal studies should explore the shared aetiology.980.

Laser discectomy or nucleotomy is an increasingly important method for less invasive procedures of column, but the ideal kind of laser is still not established. As the wavelength is an important parameter for water absorption, this study was performed to investigate the action of the laser emission in the near infrared (808 to 1908 nm) region in the context of surgical procedures for percutaneous intervertebral disc decompression (nucleotomy). Forty intervertebral discs from pigs lumbar spines were irradiated with laser (λ?=?808, 980, 1470 and 1908 nm), 1-s on/off time cycles, for 120 cycles and 10 W of power (808, 980, and 1470 nm) or 240 cycles and 5 W of power (1908 nm), with total power of 1200 J, and subjected to microscopic evaluation through hematoxylin-eosin (HE) staining in order to measure the ablation lesions and the residual thermal injury. Ten other discs were not irradiated and worked as controls. The ablation lesions were measured (in mm) at 1.08?±?1.25, 1.70?±?0.63, 2.23?±?1.02, 1.37?±?0.39, and 0.94?±?0.41 (median?±?SD) for the control, 808, 980, 1470, and 1908 nm groups, respectively. The difference between 1908 nm and all the other groups was statistically significant (p?<?0.05). The residual thermal injury was less evident in 1908 nm laser and sharper in 980 nm laser wavelengths. The laser at a wavelength of 1908 nm was considered the most efficient for the vaporization of the nucleus pulposus, followed by the laser wavelengths of 1470, 808, and 980 nm, and proved to be useful for laser nucleotomy procedure. 相似文献
