Purpose: Thermal injury during implant bed preparation has a major influence on implant osseointegration and survival. This study investigated the effectiveness of the temperature of the saline solution used for heat control during drilling.
Material and methods: Fresh frozen edentulous segments of bovine mandibles were sectioned into 12 × 6 cm pieces. Thermoresistors were placed 0.5 mm from the drilling cavity walls, at depths of 3, 7, and 12 mm. Signals from the three thermoresistors were analyzed using ORIGIN 5.0 software.
Results: The maximum temperatures during drilling without irrigation were 50.9, 47.4, and 38.1°C at depths of 3, 7, and 12 mm, respectively. With irrigation using saline at 25 and 10°C, the maximum temperatures at a depth of 12 mm were 37.4 and 36.3°C, respectively. All other measurements with both 25 and 10°C saline were below body temperature.
Discussion and conclusion: This experimental in vitro study showed that more heat was generated in the superficial part of the drilling cavity than at the bottom. Therefore, external irrigation at room temperature can provide sufficient cooling during drilling. Lower temperature saline was more effective in cooling the bone, and irrigation of the site should be continued between the drilling steps.  相似文献

The storage conditions of blood samples for reliable results are very important in hepatitis C virus (HCV) RNA amplification tests used in routine HCV analyses. According to many studies, storage conditions could affect the RNA stability for HCV RNA detection. We have studied HCV RNA stability in blood samples stored at 4°C. Nineteen blood samples containing different HCV RNA levels were stored at 4°C and they were then analyzed by TaqMAN real‐time PCR method. HCV RNA levels remained almost stable (100%) at least for five weeks at this storage condition. However, among them, the stability period was up to 11 weeks in two of the samples. As with these findings, there was a slightly significant correlation between the positivity time and the beginning HCV RNA levels (r=0.474, P=0.040). We conclude that, blood samples can be stored at 4°C for five weeks without any significant difference in detected HCV RNA level by using TaqMan real‐time PCR. J. Clin. Lab. Leptospirosis is an infectious disease caused by pathogenic leptospires and is characterized by a broad spectrum of clinical manifestations, varying from inappearent infection to fulminant, fetal disease. Eighty-five to 90% of leptospirosis infections are self-limiting. However, 5–10% of infection by L.interrogans can cause renal tubular damage, microvascular injury, acute renal failure (ARF), and interstitial nephritis.We studied 36 patients with leptospirosis. Twenty-seven (65%) cases of 36 patients had ARF. Fourteen (51%) had nonoliguric ARF. In thirteen (48%) oliguria appeared on the third or fourth days of hospitalization. Serum BUN, creatinine, serum bilirubine, ALT, AST, potassium and thrombocytopenia levels were higher in oliguric than nonoliguric patients (p < 0.05). However, serum sodium, CPK levels were not different between oliguric and nonoliguric groups (p > 0.05). Thirteen patients (48%) needed in renal replacement therapy (RRT). 8 of them were treated by hemodialysis (HD) alone and 5 patients by HD in combination with hemoperfusion. Twenty-five patients (92%) recovered completely after 3–5 weeks. Two patients (7.4%) who had severe hepatorenal and hemorrhagic syndromes, died.We concluded that till now leptospirosis is actual problem for nephrologist in the developing countries because of very high percentage of renal disease, with good prognosis in patients without multiorgan failure and early treatment.  相似文献

Effects of the electromagnetic field of mobile telephones on hearing   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3  
The widespread use of mobile telephones has given rise to concern about the potential influences of electromagnetic fields (EMFs) on human health. Anatomically, the ear is in close proximity to the mobile telephone during use. Hearing loss due to mobile telephone use has not been described in the medical literature; however, if there is a subtle cochlear involvement, it might be detected by means of changes in evoked otoacoustic emissions (OAEs). Thirty volunteers with normal hearing were exposed to mobile telephone EMFs for 10 min and evoked OAEs were measured before and after exposure. No measurable change in evoked OAEs was detected and none of the subjects reported a deterioration in hearing level. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study on the effects of EMFs emitted by mobile telephones on hearing. It was concluded that a 10-min exposure to the EMF emitted from a mobile telephone had no effect on hearing, at least at outer ear, middle ear and cochlear levels.  相似文献

Since serum tryptase levels are elevated in some patients with myeloproliferative disorders, we examined their utility in identifying a subset of patients with hypereosinophilic syndrome (HES) and an underlying myeloproliferative disorder. Elevated serum tryptase levels (> 11.5 ng/mL) were present in 9 of 15 patients with HES and were associated with other markers of myeloproliferation, including elevated B12 levels and splenomegaly. Although bone marrow biopsies in these patients showed increased numbers of CD25+ mast cells and atypical spindle-shaped mast cells, patients with HES and elevated serum tryptase could be distinguished from patients with systemic mastocytosis and eosinophilia by their clinical manifestations, the absence of mast cell aggregates, the lack of a somatic KIT mutation, and the presence of the recently described fusion of the Fip1-like 1 (FIP1L1) gene to the platelet-derived growth factor receptor alpha gene (PDGFRA). Patients with HES and elevated serum tryptase were more likely to develop fibroproliferative end organ damage, and 3 of 9 died within 5 years of diagnosis in contrast to 0 of 6 patients with normal serum tryptase levels. All 6 patients with HES and elevated tryptase treated with imatinib demonstrated a clinical and hematologic response. In summary, elevated serum tryptase appears to be a sensitive marker of a myeloproliferative variant of HES that is characterized by tissue fibrosis, poor prognosis, and imatinib responsiveness.  相似文献

Stiff skin syndrome (SSS) is a disease similar to scleroderma with an unknown etiology. Stone-hard areas of skin are observed from birth or in early childhood. In this article we describe a 15-year-old girl with skin hardening and limitation of movement. We diagnosed the case as SSS, of which we have not encountered a similar report in the Turkish literature.  相似文献
