Single-proton tomographic study of regional cerebral blood flow in epilepsy. A preliminary report 总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Regional cerebral blood flow (rCBF) may be measured with a single-photon-emission computed tomograph (SPECT) after inhalation of xenon 133. Our SPECT studies of rCBF in a group of 18 patients with seizure disorders, when compared with studies in 32 normal control subjects, have shown enhanced flow to an active seizure focus and ischemia of brain areas in certain subjects between seizures. Thus, SPECT determination of rCBF has demonstrated a number of findings recently observed with positron-emission tomography and may become a useful modality in the study of patients who have epilepsy. 相似文献

The endometrial adenocarcinoma is studied as a model for the hormone-dependency of gynaecological cancers to estrogens and for their hormone-responsiveness to progestogens and anti-estrogens. The evident direct and the possible indirect mechanisms of action of medroxyprogesterone and tamoxifen on the endometrial adenocarcinoma are elucidated in vitro as well as in vivo with special regard to histological, histochemical, cytological, biochemical, endocrinological and clinical data. The modalities, side-effects and monitoring of the treatment by means of medroxyprogesterone and tamoxifen in early and recurrent or metastatic endometrial adenocarcinoma are discussed. Understanding the causes and consequences of dispersal is a prerequisite for the effective management of natural populations. Rather than treating dispersal as a fixed trait, it should be considered a plastic process that responds to both genetic and environmental conditions. Here, we consider how the ambient temperature experienced by juvenile Erigone atra, a spider inhabiting crop habitat, influences adult dispersal. This species exhibits 2 distinct forms of dispersal, ballooning (long distance) and rappelling (short distance). Using a half-sib design we raised individuals under 4 different temperature regimes and quantified the spiders' propensity to balloon and to rappel. Additionally, as an indicator of investment in settlement, we determined the size of the webs build by the spiders following dispersal. The optimal temperature regimes for reproduction and overall dispersal investment were 20 °C and 25 °C. Propensity to perform short-distance movements was lowest at 15 °C, whereas for long-distance dispersal it was lowest at 30 °C. Plasticity in dispersal was in the direction predicted on the basis of the risks associated with seasonal changes in habitat availability; long-distance ballooning occurred more frequently under cooler, spring-like conditions and short-distance rappelling under warmer, summer-like conditions. Based on these findings, we conclude that thermal conditions during development provide juvenile spiders with information about the environmental conditions they are likely to encounter as adults and that this information influences the spider's dispersal strategy. Analytical HPLC methods using derivatized amylose chiral stationary phases, Chiralpak AD-H and Chiralpak AS, were developed for the direct enantioseparation of eight substituted 4-oxo-1,4-dihydroquinoline-3-carboxamide derivatives with one stereogenic center. Baseline separation (Rs > 1.5) was always achieved on amylose based Chiralpak AD-H column to the difference with Chiralpak AS. Using UV detection, a linear response was observed within a 180–420 μmol L−1 concentration range (r2 > 0.991) for three racemic compounds 1, 3 and 4 with best pharmacological potentials; repeatability, limit of detection (LD) and quantification (LQ) were also determined: LD varied, for the solutes, from 0.36 to 2.56 μmol L−1. Hepatocarcinoma-intestine-pancreas/pancreatic associated protein (HIP/PAP) gene was identified because of its increased expression in 25% of human hepatocellular carcinoma. HIP/PAP protein, a C-type lectin, binds laminin, acts as an adhesion molecule for hepatocytes, and has also been described as an acute phase secretory protein during acute pancreatitis in humans and rats. We investigated HIP/PAP protein expression in patients with various liver diseases associated with ductular reaction. At the same time, we analyzed patients with hepatocellular carcinoma and cholangiocarcinoma, and tested HIP/PAP protein levels in sera to establish the pattern of secretion. Our data show that HIP/PAP expression was not restricted to hepatocellular carcinoma, but was also detected in cholangiocarcinoma cells as well as in reactive non-malignant bile ductules. In contrast, HIP/PAP protein expression was undetectable in normal mature hepatocytes, but some ductular cells localized at the interface of portal tracts with parenchyma were HIP/PAP immunoreactive in normal liver. Finally, we present evidence that HIP/PAP serum levels were increased in 21/28 (75%) patients with hepatocellular carcinoma, and in 25/51 (49%) patients with nonmalignant cirrhosis. Altogether, these results suggest that HIP/PAP protein may be implicated in hepatocytic and cholangiolar differentiation and proliferation. 相似文献
