Primary inflammatory myofibroblastic tumors (IMTs) of the breast are uncommon and metastasis of IMTs is extremely rare. To date, the natural course of this disease is not fully understood. Although patients with IMTs should undergo regular follow-up after complete surgical resection of the tumor, the appropriate interval and method of follow-up are unclear. We report the case of a patient with an IMT of the breast that metastasized 2 years after complete surgical resection. This unusual case emphasizes the importance of preoperative examinations to determine whether the IMT has atypical features that should guide the interval and method of follow-up.  相似文献

Meningiomas are slow‐growing neoplasms that recur locally. Their morphologic grading does not always correlate with patient outcome. We evaluated the status of several immunohistochemical markers with histopathologic parameters in various grades of meningioma.Eighty‐eight meningioma specimens were examined immunohistochemically to determine the status of Ki‐67, cyclin D1, epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), cyclooxygenase‐2 (COX‐2), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), and bcl‐2. Several clinical and pathological parameters were investigated.Forty‐nine Grade I, 33 Grade II, and 6 Grade III meningiomas were observed. VEGF and Ki‐67 expression was correlated with higher tumor grade. The association between grade and other immunohistochemical markers expression was not significant. A correlation was observed between COX‐2 expression and invasiveness to the brain or adjacent soft tissue. Tumor recurrence was correlated with brain or adjacent soft tissue invasion. We also observed a relationship between VEGF level and COX‐2 expression, and they were both correlated with necrosis.Immunohistochemical evaluation of VEGF, COX‐2, and Ki‐67 expression can provide information regarding the behavior of meningiomas, particularly for cases in which histological grading is not straightforward.  相似文献

Intestinal bypass surgery, particularly jejuno-ileal bypass surgery, performed for the purpose of weight reduction may cause an unexpected exacerbation of nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). Since the molecular mechanism of hypoxic adaptation in cancer cells is cell‐type specific, we investigated whether glycogen synthase kinase‐3β (GSK‐3β) activation is involved in hypoxia‐induced gastric tumor promotion. Stable gastric cancer cell lines (SNU‐638, SNU‐484, MKN1, and MKN45) were cultured under hypoxic conditions. Cells overexpressing wild‐type GSK‐3β (WT‐GSK‐3β) or kinase‐dead mutant of GSK‐3β (KD‐GSK‐3β) were generated and used for cell culture and animal studies. In cell culture experiments, hypoxia decreased GSK‐3β activation in gastric cancer cells. Cell viability and the expressions of HIF‐1α protein and VEGF mRNA in gastric cancer cells were higher in KD‐GSK‐3β transfectants than in WT‐GSK‐3β transfectants under hypoxic conditions, but not under normoxic conditions. Gastric cancer xenografts showed that tumor growth, microvessel area, HIF‐1α activation, and VEGF expression were higher in KD‐GSK‐3β tumors than in WT‐GSK‐3β tumors in vivo. In addition, the expression of hypoxia‐induced HIF‐1α protein was regulated by GSK‐3β at the translational level. Our data suggest that GSK‐3β is involved in hypoxic adaptation of gastric cancer cells as an inhibitory upstream regulator of the HIF‐1α/VEGF signaling pathway.  相似文献

Pulmonary sequestration is a rare cystic malformation composed of bronchopulmonary tissue that is discontinuous from the tracheobronchial tree and has an anomalous systemic blood supply. We present a case of a 40-y-old male who presented with an extralobar pulmonary sequestration and underwent a laparoscopic retroperitoneal mass excision. Preoperative imaging revealed a large 11.3-cm retroperitoneal tumor consisting of a multiloculated cystic lesion. The patient was discharged home, and at 3-mo follow-up no complaints were reported.  相似文献

The activation of macrophages by microorganisms plays an important role in host defense and immunopathology. Loranthi ramulus (LR) is commonly used as a traditional drug and health food in Korea. Here, we investigated the regulatory effects of LR on macrophage-mediated immune responses. Treatment of macrophages with LR resulted in the enhanced cell-surface expression of CD80, CD86 and major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class II, as well as the enhanced production of nitric oxide (NO) and tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, and also iNOS and TNF-α mRNA expression. These alterations of LR-treated cells were associated with the activation of NF-κB and mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPKs). LR increased the phosphorylation of MAPKs (JNK, ERK1/2, p38 MAPK) and the activation of NF-κB in Raw 264.7 cells. These results suggest that LR has increased NO and TNF-α production through phosphorylation of all three MAPKs following IκBα degradation and NF-κB activation. In conclusion, our results demonstrate that LR can effectively promote the activation of macrophages, suggesting that LR may possess the potential to regulate immune responses.  相似文献
