Across the globe, pharmacists on the frontline continue to fight COVID-19 and its continuously evolving physical, mental, and economic consequences armed by their knowledge, professionalism, and dedication. Their need for credible scientific evidence to inform their practice has never been more urgent. Despite the exponentially increasing number of publications since the start of the pandemic, questions remain unanswered, and more are created, than have been resolved by the increasing number of publications.A panel of leading journal editors was convened by the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) Pharmacy Practice Research Special Interest Group to discuss the current status of COVID-19 related research, provide their recommendations, and identify focal points for pharmacy practice, social pharmacy, and education research moving forward.Key priorities identified spanned a wide range of topics, reflecting the need for good quality research to inform practice and education. The panel insisted that a foundation in theory and use of rigorous methods should continue forming the basis of inquiry and its resultant papers, regardless of topic area. From assessing the clinical and cost effectiveness of COVID-19 therapies and vaccines to assessing different models of pharmaceutical services and education delivery, these priorities will ensure that our practice is informed by the best quality scientific evidence at this very challenging time.  相似文献

BackgroundSkin derived precursors (SKP) comprise a subset of specialized dermal cells that can be distinguished from fibroblast by their capacity for spheroidal growth. Recent investigations have shown that hair follicles constitute a niche for this cell type, but their localization and their definite function in non-follicular skin remains largely unknown.ObjectiveTo identify the dermal niche of non-follicular SKPs and to analyze whether functional aspects correlate with this localization.MethodsSKPs were isolated from separate anatomical regions of human abdominal skin. Fluorescence activated cell sorting then was used to obtain a pure population of non-follicular SKPs. Functional characterization of these cells was performed applying differentiation and proliferation assays. Information on specific in vivo functions was derived from histological evaluation of quantity and localization patterns.ResultsSphere forming capacity and differentiation assays show that SKPs reside in the papillary part of the dermis. Further delineation revealed that the dermal capillaries represent a niche for these cells which subsequently could be isolated by FACS utilizing a perivascular marker. Whereas functional properties described for follicular SKPs could also be detected in the perivascular SKP population, histological analyses additionally point to a cross-talk with epidermal stem cells and a reduction during chronological aging.ConclusionOur data show that SKPs isolated from non-follicular skin originate from a perivascular niche. Compared to their follicular counterparts, no functional differences could be observed upon cultivation, but ex vivo analyses also point to unique functions and a contribution to the phenotype of aged skin.  相似文献

In 12 patients with developing alcohol withdrawal syndrome after abdomino-thoracic surgical procedures who were treated with Clonidine, short latency somatosensory evoked potentials were recorded. Clonidine leads to a good sedation, anxiolysis and moderated the psychotic symptoms. However, there was no significant correlation between the Clonidine medication and the SEP results over the time of drug administration concerning the primary cortical response N20 and the following N20/P25 wave. Therefore, the short-latency SEP-recording cannot provide a reliable monitoring of the good sedative effect of Clonidine in alcoholic withdrawal. The SEP responses after Clonidine are like those of morphine and are thought to have a similar central mode of action.  相似文献

The vulnerability of the Medtronic-Hall, Bj?rk-Shiley Monostrut, Duromedics, and St. Jude Medical valves to occluder immobilization by sutures was determined under static and pulsatile flow conditions. Variables were cardiac output, cross-sectional diameter of suture, type of suture (braided versus monofilament) and position of the offending suture along the circumference of the valve ring. Under static conditions, pressures, ranging from 40 to 340 mmHg and 10 to 170 mmHg, were required to decompress obstructed Medtronic-Hall and Bj?rk-Shiley Monostrut valves, respectively. As a result of different design characteristics and different occluder/orifice clearances the Medtronic-Hall valve showed its maximum opening pressure in case of interference with sutures at the axis of symmetry in both minor and major orifices, whereas for the Bj?rk-Shiley Monostrut valve this was reached in the minor orifice. Under pulsatile flow conditions, in case of interference with Prolene 2-0 suture, the Duromedics valve showed irregularly delayed opening and an opening pressure difference of 50 mmHg at a cardiac output of 8 L/min, whereas leaflet motion and pressure difference in the St. Jude Medical valve were undisturbed under similar conditions. The necessary pressure difference for opening the Medtronic Hall valve reached 44mmHg at a cardiac output of 8 L/min. High and low risk of extrinsic leaflet obstruction in the Duromedics and St. Jude Medical valves, respectively, is related to the design of the hinge mechanisms and the wedge angle of their leaflets (2 degrees versus 25 degrees). Precautionary principles in implantation of prosthetic heart valves are stressed to prevent the potentially lethal complication of occluder immobilization.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献
