Orbicularis oculi (eye blink) electromyogram, skin conductance, and heart rate responses to 15 consecutive 95-dB, 500-millisecond, 1000-Hz tones with 0-millisecond rise and fall times were measured in 14 patients with posttraumatic stress disorder, 14 patients with other anxiety disorders, 15 mentally healthy subjects with past traumatic experiences, and 19 mentally healthy subjects with no trauma history. The patients with posttraumatic stress disorder showed significantly larger skin conductance and heart rate responses and a trend toward larger electromyogram responses to the tones than every other group. These effects were not explained by subjective anxiety, resting physiologic arousal, physiologic arousal preceding the tone trials, or initial physiologic responsivity. The group with posttraumatic stress disorder was the only one that failed to show habituation of skin conductance responses.  相似文献

Summary Nocturnal sleep was studied in 16 inpatients with Huntington's disease. In comparison with healthy controls, patients exhibited a disturbed sleep pattern with increased sleep onset latency, reduced sleep efficiency, frequent nocturnal awakenings, more time spent awake and less slow wave sleep. These abnormalities correlated in part with duration of illness, severity of clinical symptoms, and degree of atrophy of the caudate nucleus. Sepsis continues to be a major clinical problem that is difficult to treat, as the pathophysiology of the disease is still unclear. Despite promising experimental strategies, therapeutic interventions have been largely unsuccessful. There is now increasing evidence that the disturbance of innate immunity during sepsis and multiorgan dysfunction syndrome (MODS) may be linked to uncontrolled activation of the complement system. Especially, the powerful anaphylatoxin C5a seems to play a key role in the development of immune paralysis. In this review, we describe our present understanding of the role of complement in the inflammatory response during sepsis and MODS.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: We wished to investigate the circadian rhythm and pulsatility of parathyroid hormone (PTH) secretion in man, as conflicting results have been published. DESIGN AND PATIENTS: To investigate the circadian rhythm during daytime, we sampled (a) peripheral blood at hourly intervals in 12 healthy young men from 0900 h until 1700 h. For observation of pulsatility, we sampled (b) peripheral blood at 1-minute intervals for 1 hour in three healthy men and three healthy women (mean 27.7 years, range 21-56 years) and (c) at 1-minute intervals for 30 minutes in 21 patients with surgically confirmed primary hyperparathyroidism (pHPT). MEASUREMENTS: The serum levels of intact PTH were measured by two-site immunoradiometric assay and special care was taken to reduce intra-assay variability, especially at the normal PTH concentration. In series (a), ionized calcium, total calcium and phosphate were also determined. RESULTS: A circadian rhythm during daytime was found for intact PTH in healthy men and women with a nadir at 0930 h and a peak in the afternoon. Ionized calcium and total calcium (protein-adjusted) decreased and phosphate increased in the afternoon. These changes were all statistically significant (P < 0.02). Pulsatility of PTH: Statistical cluster analysis of the data showed no pulsatility either in healthy persons or in patients with primary hyperparathyroidism. In two healthy women and one healthy man slight changes of longer duration were discovered, but no complete pulses. In five patients with primary hyperparathyroidism, larger differences between the highest and lowest concentrations of intact PTH were found, but no complete pulses. CONCLUSIONS: Our data show a significant circadian rhythm during daytime of intact PTH and only minor changes from minute to minute. The alterations in PTH-levels occurred at longer time intervals in healthy persons. In some patients with primary hyperparathyroidism, decreases of PTH-levels were found. The circadian rhythm of PTH may be due to slight changes in calcium or phosphate concentration.  相似文献

The kinetics of the addition reaction of methacrylic acid (1) and 2,2-bis[4-(2,3-epoxypropoxy)-phenyl]propane catalyzed by tertiary aliphatic amines, aromatic N-heterocycles and quaternary ammonium salts, respectively, was studied in bulk with equimolar amounts of functional groups from room temperature to 120°C. A reaction order of 1,5 with regard to the conversion of epoxy as well as carboxylic groups was observed. This can be explained assuming the formation of an ammonium alkoxide ion pair by the equilibrium reaction of an epoxy group with ammonium carboxylate and the irreversible consecutive reaction of the ion pair with (1) under formation of 2-hydroxyester groups and regeneration of ammonium carboxylate. The reaction rate constants increase linearly with the concentration of the catalyst and increase with increasing basicity of alkylpyridines. The advantage of the aromatic N-heterocyclic catalysts consists in their stability to peroxides which are ingredients of preparations together with the epoxy methacrylate Bis-GMA, e. g. in dental composites and adhesives.  相似文献

Alterations in presynaptic and postsynaptic dopaminergic system and cerebral glucose metabolism in corticobasal degeneration (CBD) were assessed to evaluate the potential usefulness of different imaging methods for CBD. (123)I-FP-CIT/(123)I-beta-CIT SPECT and (123)I-IBZM SPECT as well as (18)F-FDG PET were performed in eight CBD patients. Decreased presynaptic dopamine transporter binding was found in all CBD patients while D2 receptor binding was reduced in only one patient. (18)F-FDG PET displayed a contralateral hypometabolism in cortical and subcortical areas in seven out of eight patients. Our results demonstrate that glucose metabolism and DAT are reduced, while D2 receptors may be frequently preserved in CBD.  相似文献
