Manifestation of EGF receptors and enhancement of an anticancer agent by EGF were studied in cultured cells derived from female genital cancers. 1) The numbers of EGF-receptors of SKG-3a, RMUG-s, HUOA, A-431 and HEC-1 were 1.22 x 10(4), 6.94 x 10(4), 2.75 x 10(4), 5.25 x 10(5) and 0.92 x 10(4) sites per cell respectively. The values for the dissociation constant (Kd) of RMUG-s, SKG-3a, HUOA and HEC-1 were 340pM, 477pM, 989pM and 2,187pM, respectively. 2) All cell lines were stimulated by EGF at low concentrations and inhibited at higher concentrations. The growth stimulation rates for SKG-3a, HEC-1, HUOA and RMUG-s in the presence of 0.01 nM EGF at 48 hours were 8, 18, 21.1 and 3.7%, respectively. The growth inhibition rates for SKG-3a, A-431, HEC-1, HUOA and RMUG-s in the presence of 1.0 nM EGF at 48 hours were 32, 28, 25.8, 11.2 and 6.8%, respectively. 3) The antitumor effect of CDDP was enhanced by the presence of EGF at both a concentration of 0.01 nM (except for A-431) and a concentration of 1.0 nM, in all cell lines. 4) EGF receptors of RMUG-s and HUOA were decreased by CDDP. The values for RMUG-s and HUOA were 1.71 x 10(4), 0.52 x 10(4) (CDDP 0.4 microgram/ml) and 0.95 x 10(4), 0.29 x 10(4) sites per cell (CDDP 2.0 micrograms/ml), respectively. The effect of CDDP on EGF receptors was not recognized in SKG-3a and HEC-1. OBJECTIVES: For the histological diagnosis of small lung cancers of 10 mm or less in diameter (< or =10), resection by video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS) with computed tomography (CT)-guided marking is feasible. One problem is that a small number of these pulmonary nodules are malignant. We retrospectively analyzed CT images of pulmonary nodules to find better criteria to select candidates for resection among patients with small pulmonary nodules. METHODS: Ninety-four patients with indeterminate peripheral pulmonary nodules underwent wedge resection by VATS. High-resolution CT using a 1.25 mm slice included the area of lesions. Nodules were classified by size (< or =10, 11 to 20, >20 mm) and whether they had a ground-glass opacity (GGO) component. RESULTS: The histology of all 94 nodules showed 52 primary lung cancers, 6 metastatic tumors, 5 benign tumors, 8 intrapulmonary lymph nodes, and 23 inflammatory nodules. Ninety-three percent of nodules larger than 20 mm, 75% of nodules 10 to 20 mm, and 43% of nodules < or =10 mm were malignant. Introducing a classification according to GGO component to nodules, malignancy was detected in 88% of nodules with a GGO component and in 30% of nodules without a GGO component among nodules < or =10 mm. Nodules < or =10 mm with a GGO component showed a statistically significant (p < 0.01) correlation with malignancy. CONCLUSIONS: Pulmonary nodules < or =10 mm with GGO should be considered to have a high possibility of malignancy and to be candidates for resection by VATS.  相似文献

A 77-year-old man, who underwent segmental pancreatectomy for intraductal papillary mucinous adenoma in 2001, was referred to our hospital with complaints of hematemesis and melena on January, 2004. Emergency upper gastrointestinal endoscopy showed a pulsating submucosal protrusion in the duodenal bulb, which was identified as a gastroduodenal arterial aneurysm measuring 1.5cm on abdominal CT imaging. Transcatheter arterial embolization of the aneurysm with metallic coils was successfully performed. Periodically repeated endoscopic examination has revealed the coils protruding into the duodenal lumen without any serious complication.  相似文献

Objects We evaluated whether the presence of lacunar skull deformity (LSD) with myelomeningocele is a predictive factor for subsequent hydrocephalus development. Materials and methods We reviewed the clinical and radiological records of 18 infants with myelomeningocele, divided the patients into groups with (group A, n=9) and without (group B, n=9) ventriculomegaly at birth and assessed whether the presence of LSD was predictive of the necessity for ventriculoperitoneal shunt (VPS) placement. Results LSD was present in five group A patients. All nine group A patients underwent VPS placement. Among the group B patients, five had LSD; they underwent VPS placement. A significantly higher proportion of those with ventricle enlargement or LSD at birth required VPS placement (p=0.0001). Conclusion Adding to the ventriculomegaly at birth, the presence of LSD alerts to the necessity to monitor these infants closely to determine the necessity for VPS placement.  相似文献

We report a case of primary diffuse leptomeningeal gliomatosis (PDLG) followed up with serial magnetic resonance images (MRI). A 45‐year‐old man manifested with bilateral abducens nerve palsy and meningisms. Repeated MRI revealed diffuse leptomeningeal enhancement throughout the central nervous system without intra‐axial mass accompanied with the dilatation of ventricles and focally enlarged cerebral sulci. Brain biopsies showed a leptomeningeal gliomatosis. The MRI findings described here would contribute to the diagnosis of PDLG among other common diseases diffusely spreading along the leptomeningeal structures.  相似文献

A 57-year-old man with a history of renal cell carcinoma presented with presyncope. He underwent nephrectomy years earlier followed by HLA-matched allogeneic peripheral-blood stem-cell transplantation. Echocardiographic investigation revealed a solitary right ventricle mass without contiguous vena caval or right atrial involvement. The mass was pathologically confirmed to be metastatic carcinoma in the right ventricular cavity. This case highlights the need to consider an underlying neoplastic syndrome in patients presenting isolated right ventricle mass by echocardiography.  相似文献

We aimed to examine the effects of KTO-7924 (beta3-adrenoceptor agonist) on lipid metabolism and mRNA expressions in retroperitoneal white adipose tissue (RP WAT) in obese (fa/fa) Zucker rats using DNA microarray. Oral KTO-7924 for 28 days significantly decreased RP WAT weight, plasma triglyceride, free fatty acid, and insulin, and improved insulin resistance in oral glucose tolerance tests. In RP WAT of KTO-7924-treated rats, DNA microarray analysis revealed specifically enhanced mRNA expressions of uncoupling protein 1 (UCP1) and cytochrome c oxidase subunit VIII-H (COX8H), which are reportedly highly expressed in brown adipose tissue (BAT). Since these mRNA expression levels in RP WAT were significantly lower in obese (fa/fa) Zucker rats than in lean Zucker rats, these genes may be important in lipid metabolism. Our results imply that in obese (fa/fa) Zucker rats, continuous stimulation of beta3-adrenoceptors by KTO-7924 causes BAT-like adipocytes to appear in RP WAT, and improves lipid metabolism.  相似文献
