An unusual cause of infantile gynecomastia: sertoli cell tumor

Prepubertal testicular masses are relatively rare. Sertoli cell tumors account for 2% of prepubertal testicular tumors and very few have occurred in the first decade of life. Gynecomastia can be seen in approximately 5% of patients with testicular mass. We present an 8-month-old boy admitted with bilateral gynecomastia and unilateral testicular mass.     

Adhesion between glass fiber posts and resin cement: evaluation of bond strength after various pre-treatments

Purpose. To evaluate surface roughness and bond strength of glass fiber posts to a resin cement after various surface treatments. Materials and methods. Sixty individually formed glass fiber posts with a diameter of 1.5 mm and a length of 20 mm were used for this study. They were randomly assigned to six groups of pre-treatment (n = 10/group): Group C, untreated (control); Group SB, sandblasted; Group SC, silica coated; Group HF, hydrofluoric acid-etched; Group N, Nd:YAG laser irradiated; Group E, Er:YAG laser irradiated. Surface roughness of the posts was measured before and after pre-treatment. The posts were then bonded to resin cement and tensile bond strengths were determined in a universal testing machine. For statistical analysis, two-way ANOVA and post-hoc comparison tests (α = 0.05) were performed. Results. The highest bond strength value was observed in group HF, followed by group SC. There was a statistically significant difference in bond strength between group C and groups HF, SC and E (p < 0.001, p = 0.002 and p = 0.041, respectively). Posts of group SB and group N showed the highest surface roughness. Conclusions. The findings of the present study reveal that hydrofluoric acid-etching, silica coating and Er:YAG laser irradiation provided a significant increase in bond strength between glass fiber posts and resin cement.

May mepolizumab used in asthma correct subfertility?

İntroductionAsthma is one of the most common chronic airway disease among reproductive period of women. Chronic inflammation in asthma, eosinophilia, high steroid treatment and uncontrolled asthma may cause infertility by affecting the reproductive organs, menstrual cycle and quality of life. Some patients with severe asthma have frequent exacerbations associated with persistent eosinophilic inflammation despite continuous treatment with high-dose inhaled glucocorticoids with or without oral glucocorticoids. Mepolizumab (anti-IL-5) is a succesful option of treatment.CasesFirst case; 25-year-old female patient has been diagnosed having asthma and rhinitis for 5 years. Even she had desired pregnancy for 3 years, she was unable to have a baby, and had been diagnosed having primary infertility. Second case; 36 years old female had rhinitis for 6 years and asthma for 4 years Although she used the same contraception method (withdrawal,condom) for years, she did not get pregnant until receiving the second dose of mepolizumab treatment.ResultTwo women were treated with mepolizumab for eosinophilic severe asthma and they got pregnant.ConclusionUnexplained infertility in people with severe eosinophilic asthma may be corrected by mepolizumab treatment. However, there is not enough data regarding the use of mepolizumab during pregnancy.     

Intravenous immunoglobulin in resistant livedoid vasculopathy: Analysis of a case series

We report a retrospective analysis the efficacy of high‐dose intravenous immunoglobulins on 9 patients with Livedoid vasculopathy for whom resistant to immunosuppressants plus anticoagulants or could not be prescribed. Intravenous immunoglobulins were used 2 g/kg per month in these patients. The treatment induced stabilization of the disease and all patients demonstrated improvement with IVIg. Complete and partial clinical response was achieved in 6 and 3 patients respectively.     

A case of proximal partial priapism successfully treated with autologous clot embolisation

Partial priapism is a rare disorder in literature and generally described as a contusion or thrombosis of the cavernous body of the penis secondary to blunt trauma. Because of the rarity of disease, there is not much information about the treatment. Conservative management with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug is often applied treatment. Here, we presented a proximal partial priapism treated successfully with autologous clot embolisation secondary to pelvic trauma.
